WCG to drop CS 1.6 - Report
According to rakaka, another major tournament organizer World Cyber Games is going to drop Counter-Strike 1.6 as a game title.
Although no official word from the WCG camp has been announced so far, rakaka claims that highly informed sources have told them the olympics of gaming are not going to feature Counter-Strike 1.6 in 2012.
Originally World Cyber Games was rumoured to be dropping PC games altogether and focusing on the mobile platforms, but those rumors were eventually proved wrong by WCG's announcement.
Was WCG 2011 the final event to host a tournament in CS 1.6?
At the time it was assumed that WCG would still feature Counter-Strike 1.6 due to the event being held in China where CS is still regarded as a popular title.
Should WCG go ahead with dropping Counter-Strike 1.6 as a game title, they would be the second major event organizer to do so within a short time frame following Intel Extreme Masters' announcement earlier today.

It's ridiculous. In this year IEM event, we had almost double viewers more than every single other game combined together, even Joe Miller confirmed that. The situation is bad in America, but not that much in Asia. The CPL is probably coming up with a minor event this year in China. It's not dead yet, at least not for the following two years or so. Yes, of course that the sponsors are pushing the organization to drop it, but it is simply not enough, even so there are going to be more tournaments on the way, such as ESWC and Dreamhack. There is no competitive FPS game currently that can replace it and without a FPS game, there will be a huge lack of viewers for sure.

Ppl don`t play 1.6 cuz there are big tournaments such as wcg or iem. Nearly half of cs players even don`t know anything about tournaments. This can only mean some pause for professional gamers.
