The Electronic Sports World Cup has announced the 2012 season, once again with the grand final during Paris Games Week running November 1-4, though this season with no Counter-Strike as a game title for the official disciplines.
Oxent acquired the French brand back in May, which put the former ESWC president Mattieu Dallon back onboard as the Managing Director.
Today Oxent announced the plans for ESWC in 2012, which marks a return to Paris Games Week for the grand final, taking place November 1-4 at Porte de Versailles in the French capital.
The trend from other event organizers as of recently has carried over to ESWC, as Counter-Strike has been dropped. Last year ESWC had both 1.6 and Source on the list of game titles, but this year both have been scratched.

ESWC returns to Paris Games Week
Official game titles for ESWC 2012 are:
StarCraft 2
Dota 2
ShootMania Storm
TrackMania Nations
FIFA 13
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
In the press release on announcing the 2012 event ESWC stated several side tournaments will take place, including a tournament for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
It is also mentioned that additional games, tournaments or show matches may be announced in the coming weeks. No detailed information was disclosed regarding the qualifying stages for this years event, including the CS:GO side tournament.
Rest In Peace CS 1.6 Competitive Scene.
if CS:GO sucks, 1.6 will be back. Win/win (i hope anyway) :)
maybe some people will give it a try and find out that they like it
so your IQ is minuscule as well...
nothing further
You're stupid.
Maybe CS 1.6 is going to die in the competition, but it will never die in China, lol.
-a cs enthusiast from China
1.6 will back in 3 months =] You Will SEE !! :D
no game has ever returned after being dropped by so many organizations
Post edited 2012-07-16 15:30:11
So far IEM, WCG, eStars, ESWC have all dropped 1.6, so this is more than one organisation.
Not to mention the teams who have dropped 1.6
You are looking at whole new ball game here and the move was bound to happen.
Kill all Lol, Sc2, dota2 fans and cs 1.6 will be best game ever :D xD
You are so funny =] that was a joke !
I mean, there is anything we can do to stop this from happening? HLTV mods, what should we do, where do we have to send signs an letters in order to have an event with cs 1.6? is this even possible?
IEM,WCG,ESWC are now officially not part of our community anymore, they turned the back on us, its better if we do the same to them.
valve release new game -> organisers realise its time to move up graphically to support hardware sponsors -> profit
it was inevitable that 1.6 would be replaced, get over it and move on
This is not like any other game, this is a clasic game that every single gamer try before, maybe by playing ffa, mr15, deathmatch, zombie plague, kz, surf, runescape, football, omg there are so many mods, and u think we should move on just like that?, this game its imposible to replace and they know that, but they try harder and harder to get us out of here to buy their new shiny game and if we do that (but i really dont think it can happen) is never gonna be the same feeling, cuz this is ours, we made it and we will love it until the very end.
I just dont get why people blame VALVE, when these tournaments have boards of executives who look at what games they can support.
And I just don't get how can you not see a VALVe employee with a bag with, say, $5000,00 could buy one of those executives vote's.
and also, please, if u want to move on GTFO.
Post edited 2012-07-18 00:55:23
because they dont want to share profits with the original creators of the 1.6 mod
no tournaments!
But you can still continue playing on public servers.
TrackMania Nations"
WAT?
Post edited 2012-07-16 17:29:36
Tekken Tag Tournamement? WAT
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
imo, they are more deaded then cs1.6
Post edited 2012-07-16 13:29:57
Instead of just making better graphic but keeping the 1.6 feeling. Seems odd.
There are problems yes, It's in beta, what do you expect?
I had my beta key for about 2 months now and I enjoy the game ALOT, I love everything except sound and the recoil of non snipers wich is why I only use AWP, close to it.
Movement is not the best, I miss bhoping but as far as the crouchwalk or whatever you say in english, I love that It's gone, I think that sort of ruined the game when some guy thought of it, the sound werent as reliable anymore.
So from a quite old school and die hard CS 1.6 fan wich apart from alot of you have realized that we wont have 1.6 in big tournaments anymore, I hope you support CS:GO and give it time to improve, 1.6 was not the perfect game that you play today from the beginning and there are still bugs in it today.
Support GO from beta till the full release, continue to support it, give Valve feedback and perhaps we will have our new game!
Post edited 2012-07-16 13:36:42
"It will be good." This argument has been parroted for almost a year now. At the beginning people said it would be good when it got out of beta; even you say "it's in beta", but with its release about a month away, it's clear it won't suddenly become good once it's out of beta, so why are you mentioning it? Put another way, you are saying it is not good but could be....Guess what? So could literally any other game, but that doesn't mean every other game will be good eventually.
IF it ever becomes good, people will play it. If it doesn't, it'll die off. So, what's the point of making the argument to support it while is sucks? People will switch if it gets better. People won't--and shouldn't--if it doesn't.
Finally, your last paragraph implies that 1.6 fans should want CS:GO to thrive because 1.6 is done competitively. Why is this? 1.6 fans should want CS:GO to become popular solely because they share a name? Or are you one of the people yelling, "The community should stay together and unite with Source's by all switching to GO!" Either way, the community grew up around 1.6 solely because it is a great game. If GO sucks--and so far it does--then many players won't switch, and those that do will leave shortly. If you really want the community to stay together, find a good team fps for everyone to play. That is the only way to keep the community together, to unite under a game with the same qualities as 1.6, not a game solely sharing its name.
Open beta is arriving soon when they will get ALOT more feedback and can fix more things.
What I'm saying is this... We shouldnt cheer for CS:GO because it share it's name we should HELP cs:go because It's the closest to counter strike there is.
ProMod is also out and they're giving out a major patch soon I believe, have to see how good that is.
Also your point about helping cs:go now while the devs are still working on it and it's closest to 1.6 now is well received. I'm going to jump on and play now and get some thoughts down. :D
edit: just want to add if it wasn't clear that i appreciate the thoughtful reply

U like this?
Post edited 2012-07-16 13:45:00
how can you switch to another game and follow the scene? what memories with the new game you may have?
you wont be able to do white nights in icafe`s like you did with 1.6 for several years, you won't have even time to play from home, because most of us have a job now, maybe a family and so forth.
so it's normal to follow other targets, but the problems with the kids nowadays is that they play shitty console games and angry birds.
These recent years were great for CS & I kept following PRO scene but the real feeling of CS was till 2006 (for me). It was just our age or just the way games were back then (simple but insane gameplay).
Anyway, completely agree that game nowadays are shit compared to the older ones.
what they can't see is that these kids have other way of life. they are playing in smartphones and other gadgets.
in conclusion, they will lose us, oldies, and they wont have a mass of new young users. on the other hand, maybe they will sell 20.000.000 keys for the game and that's the success for them. i don't thing they even intend to create a lastlong game for pro scene.
lol ahhahaahhaha

Edit: They dont even give out prices anyway.
Post edited 2012-07-16 13:42:31
Here in Portugal we are trying that, cs its pretty alive... So, if you want to keep playing your favorite game, help your own community grow.
1) Sponsors dropping their sponsorship from various teams and organisations.
2) Organisations dropping their CS divisions all around.
3) Players retiring one by one.
See ya.
Thank You cs for ruining my lyf nd still Doing it...But m' loving It !!!
GOD BLESS These ESWC,WCG and all Tournaments..

Things like the spray-recoil, maps and balance-tuning can easily be done over time and should be, as opinions on those matters are very much subjective.
Post edited 2012-07-16 14:22:38
It does matter a little bit though... I liked watching pro gamers play at a super high level as well, which i can't, any more.
:(((((((((((
Post edited 2012-07-16 14:38:19
I bet that few months after these tournaments we will see "NO PAYMENTS FROM WCG ORGANIZES " etc etc :D sponsors dont care about games , they want to pplz see their products and freaking logos :D
LESS PEOPLES = LESS PUBLICITY = MORE DISAPPOINTMENT
Post edited 2012-07-16 14:46:41
TM has its audience and is a 1v1 game which means lower travel expenses and smaller prizes.
Hell no!
This "browser-game" is very entertaining to play for some days/weeks but it gets boring quite fast and I'm 100% sure nobody really wants to watch other people playing it.
CS viewing numbers have been eclipsed by a recent console LAN in Europe which had 110 clans participate in an well over 150k spectators watch a poxy CoD tournament.
Just because you believe another game is inferior does not mean it doesn't have justifiable audience views!
Where is the trackmania community? Where are the scene news? Where are the 10000000 fan-videos? Where are the legendary pro-players? Where are the 100k live-viewers? Where are the live-commentators and the replays? ...
When it comes to esport Trackmania is, was and will always be a promotion-titel, nothing more.
Don't get me wrong. I don't have a problem with TM. It's fun to play from time to time, but it's clearly not an esport-titel like SC, CS, WC3 and Quake are.
By the way, organisations, such as dignitas, have their TM squad, so the game isn't so bad, if you ask me.

ShootMania Storm
TrackMania Nations
ESWC I have 2 questions:
1. Are you kidding me?
2. Seriously, are you freaking kidding me?
Post edited 2012-07-16 15:22:59
:(
Also, GameGune might be the last competetive 1.6 tournament in history, so prepare. If not GG, then DH Winter will be the last surely.
Post edited 2012-07-16 15:29:22
Atlast, no more Counter-Strike in main events. I'm happy now.
R.I.P.
Post edited 2012-07-16 16:03:31
riot please buy counter strike 1.6
<waiting for ESCW to make some screenshots with viewers numbers and have LOL with that>
have you ever played CS 1.6, or just watching hltv and stuff?
cs 4ever
let's a little be honest guys , from this cs comeptitive scene is dead , and in general fps scene is going down . As i can see no one here like cs:go , we already all played beta but you guys might wait for official realize of game cause many things gonna be fixed and so on. Thats why its beta to try out a game , me as you guys dont like csgo for many reasons but i think main reason that we compared csgo to 1.6 and this is a brand new game and things will never be the same , so lets just think differently and do not critic any try. At least dota2 is a really great game , its non a mmorpg like you guys just need to try this game :) So at eswc i gonna follow dota2 scene , and hope m5 gonna partecipate on this
WE MUST ALL SUPPORT THE 1.6
Go CS 1.6, We <3 YOU :)

SUPER MARIO is better
REVOLUTION!
Valve <3 Money
Valve's games are the cheapest. And after 1 year, it costs about 1/2 of original price. Look for example on Call of duties, these games are 5 years old and it costs still about 40€. Valve switched TF2 to F2P and they're creating Dota 2 which will be F2P too and they love money? o.O
Man, money is more important to valve than 1.6 fans, that's all i'm saying.
StarCraft 2
Dota 2
ShootMania Storm
TrackMania Nations
FIFA 13
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
how this fucking games can beat CS 1.6 ?? BUAHAHAHAHAH OMG IT'S A NICE JOKE BUAHAHAHAHHA I CANT STOP LAUGH !!!!!!!

I bet tournament organizers got in agreement to drop CS this year all together, we should stop watching their events for the sake of OUR community. We as consumers should be respected and not played by tournament organizers.
I still enjoy the game and playing 5vs5 with my friends (the few times I can), I won't play anything else because some executives don't want to make tournaments of my favourite game. fuck them.
Post edited 2012-07-16 18:05:14
and if they do a small tournament for cs 1.6 like cs:go no one will come xD
the only fps game is the new one shootmania ?
ALOT of Visitors wont ATTEND thats for sure.
You need atleast one FPS/RTS/RPG/... that has alot of fans but here u cant see any good fps title go search the logic into that
only Dota and starcraft roxxxxes
The last time u did this Source got fucked and 1.6 returned to glory and now its CS:GO's turn.
CS 1.6 still alive in our hearths...
cant be dead when milions of players playing online .
Long Live CS 1.6 we dont leave to die
the best game ever made that's 4 sure
:)
Bye cs 1.6 :'(
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!
But then I "ShootMania Storm? TrackMania Nations?
FIFA 13? In what fucking universe are these even esports titles?"
The audience for these games is tiny compared to CS. Same goes for the ricidulous WCG game choices in the last few years. What the fuck are these people smoking?
I believe, cs 1.6 will return cmon!!
CS GO NEVER WIL BE LIKE CS 1.6
version 1.7!
I think it would be better, with improved graphics I think would be successful :D
Sorry my english sucks!
It's just my opinion, but I have to agree, a few years and our international community will be gone if things like this continue...
They can kill cs, but we will play it for our lifes. I want to say, we will allways love CS 1.6, and play it 4FUN.
ESWC, WCG and others - .!.
MONEY>PEOPLE:/

OMG.. FUCK U STUPID ORGANISATION !
StarCraft 2
Dota 2
ShootMania Storm
TrackMania Nations
FIFA 13
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
SUCH A PIECE OF SHIT ESWC
I hope CSPromode comes and rocks and saves our asses !!
FUCK ALL THOSE WHO DROPPED 1.6 , AND FUCK THOSE WHO WILL DROP IT IN THE FUTUR
WCG no CS
IEM no CS
Estar no CS
ESWC no CS
WEM no CS (?)
-CAKEBUILDER
google it .
when someone says something is the fucking shit, they mean it is amazing.
If he said 'CSGO is gonna be shit', it would mean it's going to be bad.
1.6 is dead, deal with it.
but %80 of 1.6 community hated CS:GO. Last gameplay update came 4 months ago. Valve said they'renot making a competive game like 1.6 at the beginning of CS:GO.
So it's obvious we won't see any big community behind CS:GO. That's why it will never be an esport.
(Casual gamers can play CS:GO. But i don't think they will prefer CS:GO instead of BF3,MoH,COD..)
TL;DR - Well there is no TLDR
It has the best graphic who we have ever seen between all big games and they turn off..
Post edited 2012-07-19 13:28:10
Half of you are on a massive bandwagon which just denies the fact that CS:GO is a new game which is starting to take over the CS scene. None of you can actually come up with ANY valid reason which can back up your argument.
Face it , times are changing. ESWC and the rest of the big titles are interested in promoting this game as it is seeded to have alot of sponsors pumping money into it, regardless whether that will actually happen or not.
Please , shut up and stop complaining. 1.6 is on its knees and many of you know it.
Whether its 'like a cs game' or not, it IS a counter strike title.
Please , grow up.
