Next up in our "Frags from the past" series is Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen's headshot only USP ace against fnatic on de_train during practice prior to IEM 4 WC.
The Swedes attack the inner bombsite via the top ramp and Kovanen hiding under the three train quickly gets his first two kills including a mid air headshot on Harley "dsn" Örwall.
After reloading he moves up to find more enemies and gets two more headshots in the bombsite before rushing up the ladder to take out last standing fnatic member Patrik "cArn" Sättermon to complete his ace.
Kovanen's Evil Geniuses went on to beat fnatic at IEM 4 WC 18-12 on de_train. They ended up placing fourth overall after losing against Natus Vincere and SK Gaming.

It's hard to compare people like this, as well as it's hard to compare individual players, everyone has a different style and different impact on the game.
Carn for example had totally different players to handle than lurppis did
Yeah well if you take it that way. carn had a lot better players with him so it's not really comparable, GTR f0rest and gux can never be compared to storm or warden (not counting n0thing, he's amazing)
Well, lurppis got into pretty much a completed team when he went to America, so I don't think he had a choice, plus there are not that many options in NA compared to Sweden, of course both GTR and Gux had a lot more talent than almost anybody in the US or Canada even before they got to fnatic (not counting n0thing, I always admired him skillwise).
But I agree, I liked cArn more as an in-game leader (mostly because of his players of course), though it's not fair to compare them, it's pretty much impossible to tell who's better. Every IGL has his own thing, Ukrainians are excellent at antistrats (just an example).
Well, I've never observed WFs tactical play but it could hardly be only rushes if they beat top tier teams and achieved a few 2nd and 3rd places even on events with top teams like SK ESC fnatic or Na´Vi. Maybe he was talking about a particular game :)
I don't have anything against lurppis, and I have nothing against HLTV.org, but I find it a bit weird to publish highlight-clips from PCW:s.
I know that semi-elite players have been called "pathetic" by other top players for using practice frags, and even gather frags, in their own movies. That's mainly because a PCW really doesn't prove anything, and the rounds the opponents present are mostly for practice and testing purposes.
This was a crazy round from lurppis, and I'm happy I got to see it, but I still feel it's a matter of principle not to publish clips from closed, unofficial practice matches. It would have been different if it was from a showmatch though. :)
I'm not saying that he isn't, because he clearly is after you watch his movies. But like I said, it's a matter of principle not to publish frags from unofficial closed practice matches.
And to mSdoS:
I'm not saying a frag can't be brilliant just because it's from a PCW, it's just that you generally never publish highlight clips, or in eye-demos, from PCW:s between top teams. That's just the way it's been since around the time 1.6 came out. :)
