The groups have been drawn for this year's edition of GameGune, the 22,500€ Spanish event taking place July 26-28 in Bilbao, Spain.

This year the GameGune tournament will feature a different system for the group stage, but lets get back to that later. GameGune organizers have drawn the group for the tournament starting on Thursday at 15:00.

Since our last update on teams attending, French team iGamerz have been added, meaning there is still one spot to be filled. As we've mentioned earlier, there will be a total of six groups, with top two placed teams from each group making it through to the playoffs.

Seed one to four will have a BYE in the first round of the playoffs, in this case fnatic, Natus Vincere, ESC Gaming and Virtus.pro. The playoffs will be played best-of-three maps in a double-elimination bracket, starting Friday at 10:00

Without further ado, here are the groups for the 2012 edition of GameGune.

So, getting back to the group stage system. Remember Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen's article about changing the format for the group stage? If not go back and read about it by clicking here and you should be fully educated in how it will be run.

To make it short and simple, only the first match in each group is pre-determined. Round two will then see the two winning teams from the first round go head-to-head, again we recommend you head on over to the article to get the most detailed explanation.

GameGune 2012 will just as previous years take place inside the Euskal Encounter, which this year has reached event number 20. The tournament will be held in the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, running July 26-28.

We will obviously be making the trip to Bilbao to cover the tournament, we also have more stuff coming up prior to the event, such as the viewer's guide, Dreamteam and more.

Draws are not allowed in groupstage with the "Lurppis format" ;)

It's :
seed1 vs seed4
seed2 vs seed3

then :
winner 1st match vs winner 2nd match
loser 1st match vs loser 2nd match

then :
the winner of the winners match finish 1st
the loser of the losers match finish 4th

A match between the loser of the winners match and the winner of the losers match will decide who's going to be 2nd and 3rd in the group.

Each group is like a little double elimination bracket.

Where can I see the correct seeds for this GameGune? I can see that, for example, fnatic, NaVi, ESC and Virtus.pro are top 4 seeded, but in that order? 1. fnatic, 2. NaVi, 3. ESC, 4. Virtus? Meaning that 6 tp.uSports, 7. KerchNet, 8. K1CK, 9. x6tence?

It honestly seems like HIGH SEED (1-6), MEDIUM SEED (7-12) and others are randomized through the groups... Since the "new format" requires all discriminated seeds for the playoffs, it would be cool to see them in a list.. before the playoffs..

Or else, I'm guessing all the problems on re-seeds and random new rules... if the oficial seeds aren't public.
