Network issues delay GameGune
By: Nix0n

Game: Counter-Strike 1.6

We'll try to make this fast, while we are online... Network issues in the GameGune tournament is the reason why no matches are live.

It looked like matches could start close to 16:00 but it didn't happen. The players kept dropping from the servers and the internet inside the GameGune area had been fishy since the first people arrived.

The GameGune people are working on a solution to the problem. Right now it seems as the router serving this part of the Euskal Encounter area is the reason to it.

So for now all we can tell you is that the issue is being looked at. We'll be back when there's an update and hopefully games are about to start.

2012-07-26 17:20:57
Go in some hood and say that u will get raped alive bro ;]
2012-07-26 17:44:41
is that true, foreigns speak French better then natives? :D
2012-07-26 17:35:01
LOL
2012-07-26 17:45:40
Nah, french is too complex for french then for non-natives make a guess...
2012-07-26 20:50:25
In some engineering school, they put back some grammar lessons because of the very-low level of some students
2012-07-26 20:53:54
hahah that's so true
2012-07-26 21:49:56
:O
2012-07-26 17:21:09
haha your name
2012-07-26 17:24:36
A typical Finnish who emigrated to France, telling bad stuff about someone he doesn't even know.
2012-07-26 18:01:00
im french
2012-07-26 18:39:17
Then why the heck do you use the Finnish flag on your HLTV.org and SK profile ?
2012-07-26 19:07:40
To me it's a shame to be french. There is no more jingoism, when you look at the country now, I don't want to consider myself as a french.
2012-07-26 19:26:24
Ok, still I'm not "stupid and useless" like "a typical French" as you said.
2012-07-26 19:28:31
When I said typical french useless and stupid I embrace every single french expect me because i'm not considering myself as a part of my nation anymore. But still your first comment is ridiculous and it supports my point of view of french people.
2012-07-26 19:33:09
Well you must be right, I'm French so I'm stupid and useless.
Btw, it's not because you're not considering yourself as a French that you aren't, so maybe you're an idiot too ?
2012-07-26 19:36:39
Legally I'm french, my heart is not french anymore. That's what count. If you become a soldier to fight for your nation, you have this patriotism, I don't have, at least for France.
2012-07-26 19:44:13
And if I come to have patriotism, does it mean that I must be like most of the French people ? (I know that my first comment was stupid, but I did it on purpose...)

2012-07-26 17:08:32
hahaha, sad story
2012-07-26 17:06:59
they had time from lets say 8am to 4pm and still they managed to fuk this up :D seems they dont even tested their pcs, network and stuff lolz...
2012-07-26 17:04:45
No! They had time from the fisrt day they decided to do the event, so...a month ago they had to make sure to have all ready at a 100% and not the same day the matches are due...

I'm sorry, but that's just not acceptable...
For me personaly I don't care, I'ma go do something, it's still morning where I am now, but for the group stage it's bad, cause if the last group finishes late at night, they won't be able to get enough sleep and be fresh for playoffs, and that could result in team's bad performance...it's obvious...
2012-07-26 17:07:49
GameGune is holded inside the Euskal Encounter event. This last ones rent the BEC (Bilbao Exhibition Centre). Its not a permanent place, so I really doubt they've been there for more than few days.

Anyway I get your point, they should have tested everything and they had more than enough time to do it.
2012-07-26 18:21:09

2012-07-26 17:39:32
What a bad thing...
2012-07-26 17:40:21
Well i'm not sure to understand why internet has so much impact on the CS tournament.
Article states dropping from servers, but they are very very likely to be hosted locally.

The only issue is the steam authentication. Once players are logged in, even if internet goes down you're covered.
They could isolate the CS players subnet for a while to allocate them a proper connection just long enough for everyone to login before each groupstage rotation.
The hardcore solution could also be block every ports except the steam auth. one to stabilize the connection (less traffic) a bit.

Still we don't know which setup they have, subnets, routing, number of connections they've got.

All in all there are many technical workaround to make this work, but I would rather see organizers working to fix internet for good for the whole event rather than focusing on getting some tournaments tricky privileged technical solutions, and that totally makes sense.
2012-07-26 17:42:32
We also both know that there are plenty of non-steam solutions that work without internet - in a BYOC tournament it thus is really easy to use this instead of steam. Cracking a server to accept both steam and non-steam clients so both possibilities are open is of course also trivial =)
2012-07-26 17:46:30
hehe indeed, but that one is illegal so didn't suggest it
I made the hypothesis they would keep doing without such solution :)
2012-07-26 17:48:05
Well, the line on whats legal and whats not remains in the middle I guess. Playing CS without a license is surely illegal - but if you have the license and technical difficulties to play - different story.

Anyway, they better fix this quickly, told Nix0n I could get on a plane earlier this afternoon so I'll be disappointed if they dont get it solved tonight :D
2012-07-26 17:50:37
yeah true
ahah :]]
