The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive developers have issued another blog, this time touching on sound spatialization changes coming in the next update.
As the release dates comes closer, so does the next big update for CS:GO. The update will among other things change the game's sound spatialization.
In their latest blog post, the developers explain how Counter-Strike 1.6 has a stereo cross-fading algorithm for both headphones and speakers. For CS:S, and up until recently CS:GO, the spatialization has been optimized for 5.1 surround sound speakers, then down mixed when using headphones or stereo speakers.
To illustrate the different spatializations, the developers posted the following graphics.

The next update for CS:GO will give the players the option to customize the speaker placement and cross-fading algorithm, including presets for headphones, speakers and surround sound.
Another illustration was posted to display how the customizations will be after the upcoming update.

According to the blog, the update will be deployed before August 14. To check out the entire changelog, click here, and remember that pre-ordering of the game has started. Purchasing now will give you a 10% discount and access to the beta on August 14.
