Gunnar Challenge Cup with $3,000
Time: 2012-08-14 17:55
Game: Counter-Strike 1.6

Gunnar Challenge Cup has found its 8 participants after an extensive qualifying process, and the list includes the country's top teams, TyLoo and ETeng. This online tournament will offer around $3,000 worth of prizes and it will be played out during the following two weekends.

During the last month, around 170 teams took part in various online qualifiers to fight for the 8 spots in the Gunnar Challenge Cup which will give out 19,000RMB (~$3,000) in prize money. The main tournament will also be played online and it will once again see big favorites TyLoo and their main challengers ETeng eye the first place prize which stands at 10,000RMB (~$1,500).

These two teams met on several occasions in the last few months and TyLoo came out on top every time, most recent at the semi-finals of K1 League S1, which they eventually won.

At the Gunnar Challenge Cup, the bracket pits them to meet in the grand final, should they both overcome their obstacles before that. TyLoo might have a slightly tougher task at that, as they are scheduled to meet K1 League S1 second place finishers New4 already in the quarter-final.

Here is what the bracket looks like:

ETeng vs. Cherry.TPS
TFE vs. ZINCTHAI
c63d vs. Violent
TyLoo vs. New4

The matches will be played in a best-of-three single elimination format, and the quarter-finals are scheduled for Saturday, August 18. The organizers have decided to accommodate European viewers as well, so the first match will start at 12:00 and the last one around 18:00. The semi-finals, the third place decider and the grand final will take place a week later, on August 25.

Prize distribution for Gunnar Challenge Cup

1. 10,000RMB ($1,569)
2. 5,000RMB ($784)
3. 3,000RMB ($470)
4. 1,000RMB ($157)

HLTV.org will provide you coverage from this tournament, including HLTVs, demos and statistics, giving us a chance to reacquaint ourselves with the Chinese scene a bit.
