The fourth game in the Counter-Strike franchise has now been released, a little over a year after rumors started circulating that Valve had begun work on a new version of the popular tactical first-person shooter.
Mid-August last year the first indications of Valve working on a new CS version popped up. Not long after Valve confirmed the developement of a new CS version, which was announced to be named Global Offensive.
Several show matches followed, taking place at IEM6 GC New York and DreamHack Winter, before the closed beta would open in October. The closed beta was pushed back and instead got aired on November 30.
On July 4, Valve announced that CS:GO would be released on August 21 and would have a price point of $15. Valve opened pre-ordering on August 7, and purchasing the game before the release date would grant a 10% discount.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive released on August 21, 2012.
Today, on August 21 at 19:00, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive got released. The game saw peaks over 30,000 before the release. With the release, which was a little over 45 minutes ago, the peak is now closing 50,000.
With the game released, we can start looking forward to the first tournaments in the game. The first LAN tournament is taking place this weekend in Stockholm with €3,500 up for grabs in SteelSeries GO. Going a bit deeper in the calendar, the biggest prize purse for CS:GO will be found at DreamHack Winter, which will feature a massive $45,000 pot.
Surely there is more to come, including ESWC and others. See you on the servers.
one more disappointed delivered by Valve. Thank you guys
otherwise its not...
Im gonna wait till they offer a free weekend, just like they did with Left 4 Dead.
If not..CSP is here to stay!
/sarcasm

In all seriousness there is no future in tournaments for Source nor 1.6, what do you mean?
Btw no1 cares abt Americans or Indians or any country ppl whether they are Wanking @ work or school..!! :]

believe it or not, HLTV/Sourcetv wasnt developed for the game because the devs said they didnt think anyone used it, so theyre a bit ignorant but w/e
still losing against 2003's CS1.6
:genius:
:genius:
Let's give the 1.6 community what they want and still get those graphic-addicted kids into a game with amazing gameplay?
Nope, let's make a CSS2 since the 1st one was so much succesful than 1.6.
I dont think so
CSP will win in the long run, if you want a game with fun teamplay "Team play is everything" and just look at it from the "spectators software aka HLTV", who want to play a console game on a computer, I do not get it at all. And I think that those who speak anything else is up for money and all the crap in the beginning.. If a major Event / Organisation only wiling to pick up CSP on the map, eveyone will start play it... and everyone will love it, not just the players even the majority society people and spectators ... for the speed and fun CSP brings into the game, and for us all to enjoy ....
"If a major Event / Organisation only wiling to pick up CSP on the map, eveyone will start play it"
even if all orgs pick up csp, csp will only consist of competitive players and those who follow the competitive 1.6/source scene. People need to realise a competitive esport game needs a huge number of casual and pub players too. CSP doesnt have the money and it will never be big.

It'snot about numbers. Otherwise COD and BF should be in every major tournament with million dollars.
Finally CS is getting some attention again! Grrrrrreat! Now there will be more tournaments to watch instead of 1 every 2months. Cant really see why you all complaining. Sure its not exactly as 1.6, but its not ment to be either. EVERYONE hated 1.6 at first, do i need to say more?

I don't know why but I can't get on servers where nuke/inferno is being played. All other maps are fine..
I'm not buying it because I don't know if it will run properly on my PC.
3Gb Ram
GeForce 9800 GT 1Gb
My brother has a 9600 GT with amd x6 and he got something like over 200 fps with 640x480 @ CSGO
So the game should definately be playable for you.
