lurppis to Singapore for AEC qualifier

Game: Counter-Strike 1.6

Former Evil Geniuses captain Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen is off to Southeast Asia again to attend a Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament, this time in Singapore for the local AEC qualifier.

Kovanen will be teaming up with former TitaNs captain Prasad "StrykerX" Paramajothi as well as three other local gamers under the name Asking Questions. Their main competition will be Paramajothi's former teammates from TitaNs, although a couple of foreign teams are expected to show up as well.

When asked about the event, Kovanen stated that he and Paramajothi came up with the idea after AEC Malaysia when he visited Singapore and the two hung out. He said it took a while to sort the whole thing out, but they've been preparing for a while now.

Unlike the previous AEC qualifier in Malaysia, he mentioned that he'd been practicing individually this time and will arrive two days early in order to get some last minute practice with the team. Finally, he wanted to thank QPAD for supporting him and CS 1.6 by backing this adventure.

Asking Questions at AEC Singapore:

Mark "amennn" Low
Daryl "Insanity" Chua
Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen
Randy "rAndy" Lai
Prasad "StrykerX" Paramajothi

Asking Questions will participate in the AEC Singapore pre-qualifier set to take place on September 7 at TGX held at Singapore Expo. Should they qualify, they will also take part in the final qualifier next day on Saturday, September 8.

2012-08-31 19:19:13
Is it fun to play with/against noobs? Did you rage when you went to the last qualifier and couldn't win even if you were the best player obviously?
2012-08-31 19:20:05
I think he wants just to travel around the world and enjoy playing cs?

Haha yes I'm sure you'd be the first to decline an invitation for a trip to Singapore. ::::)
2012-08-31 20:19:32
I didn't say I would decline it. I've just asked if it's fun to play there since I'm pretty sure Lurppis is way better than every player at the tournament and I'm not even sure if the guys speak proper english or something.

If he didn't, would they have invited him? Besides if you've followed 1.6 at all the past years I'm sure you should know he speaks better english than people who's native languge is english..
2012-08-31 21:40:25
i think he meant the other guys (which is odd since they do speak english)
2012-08-31 23:43:08
yeah, but natu thought he was talking about lurppis because english is singapure's first language if i'm not mistaken, so...
2012-09-01 02:59:48
yes
2012-09-01 16:32:04
Is it fun to travel to another country and experience its culture? its not just about playing cs.

and errm you do know that English is an official language in Singapore right? they all pretty much speak it fluently.

2012-09-01 13:55:52
what a hater
Go play your CS:GO

2012-08-31 22:10:03
lurppis should become a commentator. He knows so much about the game, and has always done a gd job with Joe

i've been doing gigs on and off when offered to me throughout the past few years and will continue to do them in the future if offered.
2012-08-31 20:47:11
yes his knowledge is extensive but pro players dont make good commentators. they go too deep in the game and seem to take the fun out of it. no disrespect meant, hes still a gr8 player. but somethings arent meant to be!

commentating is a lot more than knowing the game. its bringing the emotion out when something outstanding happens. thats y joe, tosspot, redeye, smeagol and a few others are good commentators. i still watch the WCG 2006 grand final sometimes and enjoy it. even though those commentators make some basic mistakes but they make the game fun to watch!
2012-08-31 22:09:01
i agree. you need to have a commentator that can bring the emotion. but i also like when there is an expert present who can go "deep in the game". so either commentator + expert or just commentator. having only expert with no "real" commentator doesn't work that well

that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, i've personally never understood the point of yelling etc. i don't derive any pleasure from watching people who don't know anything yell stuff to make it seem interesting.

i do really enjoy watching people like threat cast though, but only when they're actually giving you some expert analysis. i watched heaton once and all he said was "i really like what they did/i don't like what they did" the entire time, that adds nothing of value to a game imo.
2012-08-31 23:50:07
I would love to see you casting with someone.

you + semphis are really good at that sort of casting (intelligent analysis). i hope you guys team up again in the future
2012-09-01 00:46:34
Tbh i saw one of their matches and didn't like it much, both are perfect analysers, but more fun to watch width a shooter, because they both don't get excited and have very calming voices. Together its one big monotone analysis/cs discussion, extremely informative but gets really boring after a few rounds. Either of those guys or xeqtr/carn/threat with joe/tosspot would be the perfect combo for me
2012-09-01 13:47:19
I understand that. I like listening to a stream while watching the hltv, and for that it's perfect IMO
2012-09-01 14:19:04
Yeah true, especially if you're looking to gain tactical insight or deduct something for your own team
2012-09-01 16:13:30
this is the only time yelling was appropriate
2012-09-01 10:29:41
I like carn and lurp commentating the game.

Tomi, you have a pretty decent line-up with the former players of team exsequor, it will be hard to win against titans but still it depends on their lu. best of luck!
