Game: Counter-Strike 1.6

Japanese team myRevenge became the winner of Asia E-Sports Cup 2012 yesterday thanks to defeating Singapore's Asking Questions in an exciting final, earning themselves a cheque for a whopping 800,000¥ (~$10,000).

Four Asian teams made their way to Tokyo Game Show to take part in Asia E-Sports Cup - India's NSD Gaming, Malaysian representatives Hybrid, local team myRevenge.jp and Singapore's Asking Questions that featured the most famous Finnish player Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen.

The battle for a share of the ~$16,000 prize purse was played out in a double elimination best-of-three format, with most of the action taking place on Friday. As the first day came to an end, Hybrid was the only team to drop out, as 4th placed. That left Asking Questions (also known as ??) to fight with NSD for a chance to play the grand final, where myRevenge were waiting comfortably after winning the upper bracket.

Saturday only featured the consolidation final in which ?? defeated NSD after three maps and secured themselves a clash with myRevenge, where they would need to win two best-of-three series to take the first place prize.

On Sunday, a potential marathon final was ready to begin, although the local representatives myRevenge put a dent in the hopes of ?? straight away, taking de_inferno 16-10 and getting only one map away from winning the entire tournament.

lurppis didn't give up after losing first map of the final

A monster performance from Kovanen (35 kills and a 1vs2 last round clutch) in a 16-14 de_nuke victory helped push the series into a third map. The excitement further intensified then, as de_dust2 went into double overtime, where Asking Questions came out as winners with a 22-20 score, taking the first best-of-three series.

Unfortunately, instead of heading into another best-of-three series, the grand final had to be cut short as the Tokyo Game Show was nearing its end and the power at the venue was going to be turned off soon. Therefore the teams were told that they will play just one map to decide the overall winner, and the choice came down to de_nuke again.

myRevenge won the deciding map and lifted the winners' cheque

With one map deciding it all and the first place prize on the line, myRevenge proved to be the better squad after all as they won de_nuke 16-11 and lifted the 800,000¥ (~$10,000) cheque.

a bit lame from the org but lurppis can not deapeat every round a 1vs5
2012-09-24 16:23:03
You mean the bo1 instead of bo3? I was hoping to see another bo3 but we all have schedules so wouldn't flame the org. It was a nice tournament and myR deserved the win
2012-09-24 16:27:38
for sure you can flame the org when they didnt planned in time
2012-09-24 16:32:11
Plans seldom go as planned. It was not the org about to show the power down
2012-09-24 17:01:03
you want to tell me they werent informed about that?
Sounds like they didnt payed the bill :D

Wish we had commentators like those guys throughout all 1.6 tournaments during the years.
2012-09-24 16:43:17
heheheheLOOOOL.Have u never watched rahim xD.This commentator is completely nothing compared to Rahim lol :D.Just its INZEEIN TO ROBABABAN WITH RAHIM,ROGER THAT?HE IS OUT OF WORLD LOL

Also there are some more 'patient' and very good streamers/comentators,if u dont like the roket jump from rahim ;)
2012-09-24 16:50:51
I have watched him a couple of times but he gets too excited & starts talking shit. At least I don't understand Japanese, so I'd rather just hear the excitement.
2012-09-24 16:59:34
Your Rahim is bad and you should feel bad.
2012-09-24 17:36:19
Nice 2 See an Indian Team in 3rd.. & GG lurppis
2012-09-24 16:48:49
Lurppis if you read this, what's the skill level of these teams you played with or against?
Are they on the same level like a random nordic mixteam? Or on a semi pro level? I'm curious!
2012-09-24 16:56:56
i think this wallbang beat the one that n0thing did vs the korean

2012-09-24 19:33:34
hahahah me too :D
2012-09-24 22:21:26
Lurrpis destroyed them..
2012-09-24 19:59:55
Poor StrykerX, I've seen him in a lot of tournaments in the past years, and in almost all of them, he's the bottom fragger of the matches. I'm glad that the japanese team won, I wonder why Japan never had a WCG/ESWC qualifier for 1.6.
2012-09-24 22:21:47
CONGRATS
2012-09-24 22:50:22
So I was correct in my assumption that lurppis and randy basically carried Asking Questions through the whole tournament. Ah, well. AQ put up a hell of a fight, and lurppis showed his AWPing skills (which are quite good, if you didn't see for yourself) as well as his always-strong team leadership. Good game to them.
