A new update for CS:GO was shipped by Valve tonight, and it is mainly focused on fixing the matchmaking for competitive play. Two new maps were added as well, de_vertigo and ar_monastery, and perhaps more interestingly some minor gameplay issues were fixed.
As of today, match making in Competitive mode of Counter Strike: Global Offensive has been significantly altered. There will be no more joining matches in progress, instead the player (along with friends he invites) will be put into a queue where two teams will be assembled, after which the match will commence.
However, ELO ranking still hasn't been implemented into this system, so for the time being players of all skills will be matched with eachother.
For complete info on the changes in the matchmaking check out Valve's FAQ. They have also presented the following video along with the update:
Two new maps, de_vertigo for Competitive play, and ar_monastery for Arms Race mode were also added as a new feature. The remainder of the new update concernes changes and bug fixes, some of which we will point out now.
Perhaps most importantly, all sub-machine guns (SMGs) that used to bring a $900 kill award have seen that reduced to $600, while the notorious P90 (3rd most used weapon at DreamHack Valencia) now rewards $300 per kill, even though the change log indicated that it will be the same as the other SMGs. Also, shotguns have seen their buying price reduced by $300.
Another fix will be particularly pleasing for moviemakers, and it is that HUD (heads-up display) will now work while watching POV demos, meaning health points, armor, ammo, deathnotice and radar will be visible in the same manner as the player who recorded the demo saw them. It must be noted though that all old demos are once again rendered unplayable due the game version changing, so this update will only work on future files.
Some other minor changes include radar displaying when a player or a bomb is above or below you, reduced aim flinching when you're shot in arms, legs or chest and stomach when wearing armor, and slightly increased velocity when throwing grenades while moving.
However, there is no sign of community's over-requested M4 silencer, or any indication of CS:GO TV.
Here is the full change log from today's update:
[ NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT ]
- Replaced Competitive mode "Join in Progress" matchmaking system with "Queued" matchmaking.
-Searching for a Competitive game, either from "Find a Game" or "Play with Friends," will enter the player/s ( between 1 and 5 ) into a waiting queue. Once 10 compatible players are found then the game will begin.
-Players that disconnect from a match can reconnect to it from the main menu or abandon it. Abandoning a game will result in a cooldown period during which no new competitive match can be joined.
-Note: Elo will be recalibrated for the new matchmaking system over the coming weeks.
-New maps:
-de_vertigo is now available for Classic Casual and Classic Competitive.
-ar_monastery is now available for Arms Race.
[ MINOR FIXES ]
-Weapon changes:
-Reduced p90 kill award from 300% of default to 200%.
-Reduced other SMG kill awards from 300% of default to 200%.
-Increased Bizon kill award from default to 200%.
-Reduced all shotguns' price by 300.
-Guns are now considered "reloaded" at the point during the reload animation in which they visually appear to be reloaded - this allows you to switch away from a gun after the new magazine has been entered without having to wait until the whole reload animation has finished * the weapon refire delay after starting a reload is not affected.
-Fixed HUD not showing during demo playback.
-Changes to Matchmaking Lobby
-Removed global Join Button and added Join Buttons for individual friends in the Invite Friends section.
-Join state is now visible when you browse the friends list.
-Removed global Steam Profile button and added ability to click on any avatar image to see Steam Profile.
-Removed global Invite Button and added Invite Buttons for individual friends in the Invite Friends section.
-Added new feature section to the main menu
-Fixed issue that caused doors and other "pusher" entities to move at the wrong speed when the tick rate was > 64 Hz.
-Fixed post-process blur effect getting enabled (and left on) during demo playback if the player invoked the buy menu.
-Fixed MOTD on OSX.
-Fixed scoreboard getting stuck in toggle mode after halftime sometimes.
-Fixed ability to connect to community servers using server browser from in-game pause menu.
-Fixed exploit where models could be subsituted via a hardware performance setting.
-Fixed memory corruption related to bots cleaning up their occupied nav areas.
-Fixed spectator glow materials not being precached.
-Resolved several minor bugs to clean up console spew on launch and map load.
-Fixed a crash associated with targetIDs and the sv_competitive_official_5v5 convar.
-Votes that match or exceed the number needed to succeed now end the vote early instead of waiting for the timer to expire.
-The radar now displays when a player or bomb is above and below you.
-Reduced the aim punch that happens when shot in arms and legs as well as in the chest/stomach when wearing chest armor.
-Slightly increased the velocity boost grenades get when thrown by moving players.
-Fixed in-game voice chat not working with some microphones on OSX.
-Added convars mp_teamname_t and mp_teamname_ct that allow overriding team names on the scoreboard.
-Fixed grenade bounce being significantly reduced when tossed at the ground at most angles.
-Fixed not being able to vote when spectating/observing or when the scoreboard was up.
-Changes to warmup period:
-Players now respawn in the warmup period.
-Warmup periods now only end when the warmup time expires.
-Warmup period no longer allows friendly fire.
-The community server browser warning pop-up can now be dismissed and told to never show again.
-There is now a visual and audible change in place of the silence on planted c4 when its about to explode.
-Fixed the medals on the main menu showing the wrong categories.
-The Buy Previous hotkey in the buy menu now only buys things that you purchased in the previous round.
-Fixed an exploit that let players infinitely spawn golden knives.
-Fixed a case where if all players on both teams had the same clan team name the were considered on the same team.
-Fixed a crash on startup when launching a game by joining a game server from Steam.

reloading was just so slow
add silencer
add GO:TV
allow us to turn HDR off and more fps commands
Make a easy to see ELO system like LoL/dota2
add de_tuscan + de_mirage + de_contra to competitive mode
Fix crashing bugs
Do that and this game will live
and the maps.. the official maps need to be somehow balanced not only look better like the valve maps, imho the competitive mode should ditch the valve maps, they are not meant to be played seriously since they do not have a bit of balance.

Cars and stuff like that doesnt matter since there are hundreds of map makers working and im sure we get good competitive maps sooner or later.
i mean, we can all agree that 1.6 isn't very realistic i mean the bunnyjump and etc. but it is what makes the game fun. these movments and the smooth feeling.

Terrorists win.

Cars and dumpsters - it just looks different and the game is not as clean as 1.6 or Source (pretty much) was, but it adds a new aspect to the game which is fine, it's a new game.
I agree on the recoil thing though. It is somehow controllable but it could be better. Same with silencer, it's not that important though.

M4 silencer and p2000 silencer would be great but not that important compared to those.
-------------------------------------------------
Finally! Now waiting for GOTV.
Made my day. :)
This update is good.
I mean, it says it's gonna match me up with players that are the same skill as me, but everytime i play it's too easy i end up with like 30-4 or something in score. and that's not a joke at all. it's actually true. maybe like 1/20 matchmaking i play i can actually meet players who have e decent skill, and that makes it more fun. it's no fun having 30-4 in score. that's just boring has hell, cus it doesn't make your gameplay better playing against so bad players. it actually makes you worse.... so i think IRC still is the best thing to use when i search for matches and stuff, because then i know that i play with guys that is in my skill level. wich is pretty nice. and if i start to feel that the skill i normally play starts to get a little to easy... then i just search for higher skilled people! Easy as that! IRC4life!
We’ll be recalibrating Elo in the coming weeks and are temporarily removing it from the UI. As we recalibrate, we’ll be matching players of all skills to collect better data and test various Elo models.
Matchmaking sounds promising.
- GO TV
- unlock FPS commands
- more maps (for pro players - de_season, de_contra, de tuscan; for pub players - de_ prodigy, de_assault + remake current maps (for example no rubish on dust 2 and so on)
- slightly fix recoil
- money system - why is awp kill still only for 50 dollars? It should be at least 200 dollars!
- silencers (not that important)
- sound system still needs fixes
- make smoke grenade smaller and fix the bug where you can see throw smoke when he grenade explodes
- fix flinching
+ random bugs
what do you have with "fps commands" thing?
go 10 days in McDonalds for part time job, buy new graphic card and stop crying.
ugly lazy kids
i run 200+ fps on 1900x1200 all max details. game runs fine

Gigabyte GTX 580 SOC edition
-Increase bomb explode radius drastically.
-Remove radar, or show only teammates.
-Recoil needs to be less random (not easier, just less random, so that it can be controlled with practice)
Imho, all 4 need to be fixed, and then GO is somewhat playable. Wouldn't mind some movement updates either.
EDIT:
Just looked at matchmaking, and they haven't even included mirage and nuke_ve, which proves they seriously do not give a fuck about the community at all.

Good update, especially the crashing of spectator gui, reloading and aim punching
This random team making is gonna turn out like cs-gather shit. And this system to evaluate the level of a player is a complete bullshit.. How will it see the difference between a baiter and a good player ? How will it see the difference between a teamplayer(who's gonna try to entry kill for the team every round and unfortunately die) and a noob like FFA style who rushes every round with no clue to get himself killed or a noob who will watch his mates die before he makes a move ? And I can go on..
As far as I know, the rating you get is based on the number of games won (at least it's like that in HoN), not on your kills, so the guys who play on a support like role still get their efforts rewarded. It won't be of much use to bait as you're likely to lose if you don't play as a team, hence losing rating (which I suppose is something no one wants).
If the game becomes somewhat massive you will always have people to play with. The idea is that it tries to balance it with the people on queue at the time. So yes, it could, in theory, mix top players with low players, but they would be divided in separate teams so that it would try to be fair.
It's pretty obvious that this might sometimes get a bad combination and make a team better that another, but I think this is better than being paired with random players. Again, if the game has a lot of players then it has a better chance at getting a decent match.
PS: I don't know how the system actually is, but if it's anything like HoN or LoL then the information I've provided might be of use
only things changed should be
- Silencer added
- pistols less powerfull(p250 s like having an ak)
- GO TV
- fix some buggs
many times I shoot 30 bullets and guy in front of me kills me and I hit him for 5 dmg or so
in cs 1.6 he would be dead 4 times allready
