Same language family (Uralic)
2016-01-10 12:11
it's called finno-ugric
2016-01-10 12:59
Finno-ugric languages are a part of the uralic family (finno-ugrics exclude some of the uralic ones) your answer is just more precise, thanks
2016-01-10 13:13
exactly, but the other (samoyedic) languages are far away both in language an geography so why bother
2016-01-10 13:15
With each other and basically nothing else that's in major and governmental use except Estonian.
2016-01-10 12:04

Neither do you. You just speak gay sounding dialect of danish and call it swedish.
2016-01-10 12:20
Is that why you're forced to speak Swedish in schools? Try again finntard
2016-01-10 12:25
The reason why we are forced to speak swedish lays in our politics. Swedish speaking finns have an party wich pretty much has only one mission: force us to learn swedish. All other politic questions are meaningless to them and beacause of this they found themselfs in prety much every cabinet of parliament backing up other parties against the oppostion as a trade for mandatory swedish.
2016-01-10 12:32
I bet you'll have it much better with the russians after they invade you Kappa
2016-01-10 12:33

at least our language doesn't sound gay as fuck..
2016-01-10 12:51
No. Just like Russians can't understand Polish.
2016-01-10 12:09
russians can...
2016-01-10 12:10
lol no they cant
2016-01-10 12:10
russians can...
2016-01-10 12:18
Polish and Russian are different languages, maybe a little similarity in few words and that's all.
2016-01-10 12:10
Same with Hungary, Estonia and Finland.
2016-01-10 12:11
I guess Estonian and Finnish are close to each other

Finland Helvetti
Estonian way more easier to understand than Hungarian
2016-01-10 12:14
They are. Alot of Estonians are moving to Finland after the fall of iron curtain. I guess because the language ia easy to learn for them.
2016-01-10 12:15
Yeah, they learn the language in some weeks/months. We have many words exactly the same or just little different, so it's easy to understand their meaning. When I listen Estonian speaking, I can understand some parts of it always. And if I would want to learn it, I would learn it very fast.
2016-01-10 12:26
They are. But they are still pretty far from each other. German and english are more close to each other than estonian and finnish.
2016-01-10 12:24
Lol nope.
2016-01-10 12:27
Pretty much yes, it just feels similar because all other languages differ from finnish so much.
2016-01-10 12:49
wut, german and english?
2016-01-10 12:36
totally different
2016-01-10 12:10
Same language group/family, but theyre not really similar. i mean a finnish speaker cannot understand hungarian and vice versa.
2016-01-10 12:12
They're the closest to our language, yet i've never seen/heard a Finnish word being similar to ours
2016-01-10 12:17
What do you think käsi or veri mean? :)
2016-01-10 12:18
i wouldn't have known what they mean without google lol, we don't even have ä, and we write these very differently like "kéz" and "vér", not so similar is it?

Yeah, I saw... but still it IS similar (at least in written text).
2016-01-10 12:50
How about voi? Sounds just like vaj
2016-01-10 12:31
Maybe basic words like that, but they're written so differently from ours that i wouldn't notice that in a text in finnish
2016-01-10 12:34
Not really. Finnish/Estonian are very similiar tho.
2016-01-10 12:24
Same family.(Uralic-Altaic) Hungary was turk back then. But they assimilated. That's the reason Hungarian language and Turkish has the same family. According to that many people think finns are turk too.

uralic-altaic is an old proposal with little to no support. really no reason to think that there's a meanungful link between altaic and uralic
2016-01-10 12:31
There are theories about it, but it's rather Finno-Ugric, that has nothing to do with Turk. I think the influence by your country is mainly coming from the 1400-1600's.
2016-01-10 12:46
There are some similarities like Jään alla talvella elävät kalat uiskentelevat. Jég alatt télen eleven halak úszkálnak. Kivistä verinen oli vävyn käsi. Kövekt'o'l véres volt veje keze. Orvon silmä kyyneliä täynnä. Árva szeme könnyel tele. Ken meni meidän edessämme? Ki ment mi el'o'ttünk? Miniäni antoi voita. Menyem adott vajat. But it's only seen when it's written. I mean, if a finnish guy tried to say these to me, I wouldn't understand shit. And I think the main thing in common is the grammar. We have this thing where we write stuff together like. to Peter. -> Peternek by monday -> Hétf'o'ig AFAIK Finns do the same too
2016-01-10 12:35
Yes same language family just as Hindi and English this might be a bit of an exaggeration but even if you compare English and German (as they are both Germanic languages) or English and Swedish (same) you are going to find closer connection. Finnish and Hungarian a rather different the contemporary hungarian academic linguistic approach does not view these languages as closely related counterparts. Because of their high ability to cunstruct agglutinative words since they are agglutinative languages may make them look similar but I mean nah these two languages are not closely related. Btw. even the wikipedia can tell you that upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/t.. Hungarian is kind of alone no wonder it is a special language 30% of the words are still without known linguistic source or ancestry.
2016-01-10 12:33
all turk /close
2016-01-10 12:35
Well, its not really similar i guess, but we still love them :D
