Norway EceAyhan
Why in countries like Belarus or Ukraine nobody speaks Belarus or Ukraine, but everybody speaks Russia?
2016-04-30 23:19
Topics are hidden when running Sport mode.
because that's their main language since they were part of the USSR and most of them have russian ancesters. it's basically like spanish in latin america.
2016-04-30 23:21
because Belarussian is mix of lithuanian and russian after lithuania invaded russia, and ukrainian is mix polish and russian after poland invaded russia
2016-04-30 23:23
Belarusian is actually a polish russian mix get rekt
2016-04-30 23:24

Though what's with those u's and ou's? That kind of resembles some of Lithuanian phonetics.
2016-05-03 16:47
that letter doesn't even mean anything That's just a default u with ' on it the only difference is that we are writing u' after vowels, while defaut u after constants
2016-05-03 16:49
But I thought that sound actually came from Lithuanian language. Perhaps I'm wrong.
2016-05-03 16:54
we actually have nothing to do with Lithuanian language :x

2016-05-03 21:01

Name the other members of the Baltic language family?
2016-05-04 00:24
just curious, is there Estonian as a language or do they speak Russian or something else?
2016-05-04 00:47
Estonians don't speak a Balto-Slavic language, they speak a Finno-ugric language related to Finnish.
2016-05-04 02:04
ok thanks
2016-05-04 02:06
Russians heavily populated the Baltic states during the Soviet period, but unlike Belarus and Ukraine, they was a stark Linguistic barrier. Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine share a very similar history and tongue.

If I'm correct, ukrainians and a russians can't talk to each other in their own languages?
2016-05-04 02:17
As for me, I can make a very little sense of Ukrainian, maybe that's because I live too far away from it and not used to their speech, people from Southern regions probably have an easier time understanding it. And almost all Ukrainians can understand Russian perfectly.
2016-05-04 14:33
Speaking Ukraine or Belarus is a symptom of no education. There are less uneducated people in Belarus than in Ukraine, that's why nobody speaks Belarus.

My English pretty bad, like 3/10 with Google-Translate and Early-School education :D But I'll try. Ukraine, Odessa : In "Play-School" all teachers spoke Russian and most books and children's journals on Russian. Kids Cartoons on Russian language on all TV-Channels. In "School / High-School" all teachers spoke Russian and most books on Russian. My whole family and friends speaks only Russian. Most TV-Channels and films on Russian language. I hear Ukrainian language only on "News TV-Channels" or from "immigrants" from far Ukrainian villages. In official documents and instructions of medical prescriptions we have two languages, Russian and Ukrainian. But i know and can read/speak/write on Ukrainian, but its hard, not native language for me :D So... Odessa 95% Russian Language town.

2016-05-05 16:21
When I was in Play-School it was about ~20+ years ago. And School, yes — It was the "Russian School", if you dont know 50% Schools in Odessa called "Russian School" (~1991 Year). In Russian School he teaches — Russian, English, French or German (instead of Ukrainian). Right now in Odessa and on Russian-Talk Ukraine towns the new government forced many schools and TV channels move to Ukrainian language. And we all know why it happened. So... I have a feeling that you are very young to discuss this moments, bro :D
2016-05-06 13:04
oh yes, lets talk about thing that was 20+ years ago, lolololol. >new government forced many schools and TV channels move to Ukrainian language rly? new government? Lol, the part with the black ones seemed a bit racist but I said this just cuz i don't know why people who live in other countries (hope u r not fakeflagging) need to insult us for OUR OWN history And btw we live in 2k16 and imo it's useless to talk about what Stalin was doing, you'd better see what's up now in the world man;D
2016-05-04 00:49
That's a popular line. 'Black lives matter'. Search engine it. > I said this just cuz i don't know why people who live in other countries (hope u r not fakeflagging) need to insult us for OUR OWN history I had an impression I was doing the opposite. I stood up for murdered Russians. > And btw we live in 2k16 and imo it's useless to talk about what Stalin was doing, you'd better see what's up now in the world man;D And what do you say about people who are not into Stalin, but let's say, ancient history?

I don't say anything to them cuz imo ancient history doesnt cause so many arguments (compared to Stalin theme) If I misunderstood u and you stood up for murdered Russian then ty man;D I just want everyone to know that Stalin killed a bit fewer people than Hitler did (at least our government says so)
2016-05-04 00:55
> at least our government says so International historiography seems to disagree. It's 25m vs 10-60m, though usually they go for those higher numbers. Also, nationalities matter so much (for some reason you had an impression that I was insulting Russian people), then it's also a well established fact that Dzherzhynsky (Polish by nationality) surely killed more Russians than Russians killed Polish in Katyn.

Btw didn't know about Dzherzhynsky killing Russians And I am 99% sure no1 in Russia regard him as a Polishman, he is Russian for us and did some good things for us D: And Katyn Sh!t That's imo is the most arguable question between RUS and PL Of course Russians started it no doubt but Polish guys did answer and that eventually was ok That was the thing but our governments don't want to admit both-sided victims which is very sad:(
2016-05-04 01:06
> That's imo is the most arguable question between RUS and PL I don't think that anything is an issue for normal people. It's governments that use history as propaganda (mostly for domestic purposes) that are the problem. Of course, it's more prevalent in places where free speech is more oppressed than where it is to a lesser degree. More in Russia than in Poland, and more in Poland than in the UK. Polish government now though, since the last elections definitely shifted into that bad direction. At least that's my opinion. And normal people, those who aren't into propaganda, can simply check out what the academy sources say. It might be worth to ask yourself a question. Would you be able to get to the views that you have now if you grew up in a different place? The more you think you would, the closer you are to the truth. If you wanna get there of course. Most don't.

100% agree with you For me sometimes it's just painful to watch people getting more and more brainwashed:( I can't realise how is it possible to think everything you are told is right Every country has its own propaganda no doubt Of course, you'll never hear anything like what's told in your country and I can't understand why people get so embarassed with it All these political things are made not by the person himself but by the government Sadly, most of people don't realise it (esp impactful countries, for example, the USA, Russia, some EU countries)

10-60m I'd agree even with 25 But 60..It's just too much I guess it was about 1/3 of the USSR population which is just impossible to be killed (esp when WW2 was about to start and USSR had the war with Finland in 1939-40 which was also very painful for us) By killing 60m people he would just wreck the whole country I don't think it was hus actual aim even if we talk about his cruelty

Stalin came to power by chance. Only due to the fact that Trotsky was ill. And he began to anti-Trotskyist campaign. Trotsky was even worst than Hitler. BTW when Stalin come - all managing body he got from Lenin (and for Trotsky). And anyway the talk was about ethnic background and that the russians have more chance to live. Thats not true.
2016-05-04 00:35
Can you please specify which of what I say you disagree with? Because this makes less and less sense. > And anyway the talk was about ethnic background and that the russians have more chance to live. thats not true. Russians definitely had less chances to be murdered in Soviet Union than Ukrainians or Polish. I don't have the exact statistics now, but if you want me to, I can find them.

Hey man:D Stalin DID really kill a lot of people but not more than Hitler;D Our official history sources talk about ~10000000 people killed by Stalin (during all his life if I'm not mistaking) and ~26500000 people lost in WW2 so.. Stalin wasn't able to beat Hitler but the amount people killed by him is also impressive cuz like 95% of them were completely innocent (they just were doing things our government (KPSS) didn't like or didn't want them to do)
2016-05-04 00:14

basically we can call it colonization and it took several centuries. vast majority of nations that ended up in USSR were not russian neither by blood nor by culture. and even though eastern soviet republics had higher birth rates with each census there were more russians.
