I don't think that anything is an issue for normal people. It's governments that use history as propaganda (mostly for domestic purposes) that are the problem. Of course, it's more prevalent in places where free speech is more oppressed than where it is to a lesser degree. More in Russia than in Poland, and more in Poland than in the UK. Polish government now though, since the last elections definitely shifted into that bad direction. At least that's my opinion.
And normal people, those who aren't into propaganda, can simply check out what the academy sources say.
It might be worth to ask yourself a question. Would you be able to get to the views that you have now if you grew up in a different place? The more you think you would, the closer you are to the truth.
If you wanna get there of course. Most don't.
