It is nationalism. Symbols change meaning. Red and black ukrainian flag doesn't mean death to toilet cleaners anymore or whatever those people stood for in 1940s (Polish don't accept the obvious), while lentochka became a symbol of aggressive Russian nationalism (VOV propaganda was the main theme during the Crimea annexation and Russian aggression/Ukrainian civil war in Donbass, it was the main factor that drew volunteers in), not the memory of those who died in ww2. It propagandised to the point where people regard it as religion. If you challange them on it, they will react exactly the same way as relious fundamentalist would if you insluted their religious concepts.
