Despise having the second biggest colonial empire, France was less harsh than the other colonial powers. We didn't do any "social cleansing", worst example of cruel exploitation though was the French Guyana where sugar workers were getting their hands cut off if they stole sugar canes, and later muzzled so they didn't eat the sugar canes. But it's nowhere near the tens of thousands, millions in the case of England, the other colonial powers murdered under their colonial regime.
But all this appart, no our former colonies don't hate us. We've been helping them with their conflicts with the djihadists and our politicians are trying to entertain good relationships, in both countries' interests. Ofc the colonial era isn't forgotten by everybody there, but we've been trying to apologize for that.
