2017-04-05 10:09
im working as junior-softwareengineer (programmer) im gonna study economic computer science
2017-04-05 10:11
i tought this is something more serious. stop seeking for attention lol.
2017-04-05 10:12
2017-04-05 10:13
you are dropping an entry level job to study the domain you're in , full time. WOW big fucking deal , worths starting a thread on hlyv , notice me pleaseeeee
2017-04-05 10:15
im just trying to help people who are in the same situation or think about quitting their job for further education. you are the only one seeking attention with your comments
2017-04-05 10:20
2017-04-05 10:38
great difficulty and super important decision to leave an entry level shit and get your fucking degree while you got covered by your parents... WOW DUDE YOU SUCH A HEROOOO
2017-04-05 10:45
my parents "only" help me by giving me a place to sleep since they have a big house - why should i rent an apartment then? Everything else i have to pay and do myself. Maybe you should first leave your mums basement before talking here fucking troll
2017-04-05 10:52
listen kid first of all what you said you did is perfectly normal and leaving an entry level job paid with 2.5k per month in IT to get a degree and get paid 4 times better is perfectly normal literally the definition of common sense. second of all what do you mean by y parents "only" help me by giving me a place to sleep <- this is the most important thing when you are on your own .. a place to sleep and live. third of all i live on my own since 19 and i am 26 now so its super hilarious when you tell me to leave my mum basement while you literally are moving into it as we speak. just fuck off with this shitposting , if you're not an autist but you prbably are since you are a programmer.
2017-04-05 10:57
nice try, your last sentence gave it away
2017-04-05 11:00
gave away what ? that programmers are 90% of the cases socially awkward people no lifers ? everybody knows this already
2017-04-05 11:01
no its a stupid cliche and the fact you actually believe in such shows your stupidity. Also i know that having a place to sleep is a big part (fincial wise) thats why i quoted it. I live on my own for 6 years. Go back to your cave troll
2017-04-05 11:11
im not sure if you are a bad baiter or an actual autist. i tend to think you're in the 2nd category
2017-04-05 11:33

you actually seem autistic, so I can get why you hate it. Though life

2017-04-05 12:13
Good call
2017-04-05 12:14
Sweden Kasidro
If you honestly think that 90% av all programmers are autistic and antisocial, I'd say you are the nolifer, as you seem to have not have left your moms basement for the past 25 years. The world has changed
2017-04-05 12:24
Ofc world has changed but sitting 10h per day in front of a computer still means you are a no lifer either you like it or not
2017-04-05 12:34
What jobs are not nolifing then? Also, most IT jobs are actually not "sitting in front of a computer 10h a day" but tend to interact a lot and developing ideas with other people. Depending on what you do being a computer engineer can actually be a very socially active job
2017-04-05 12:54
actually people from our distribution or accounting are sitting longer in front of their PCs than i do. welcome to the digital world idiot
2017-04-05 13:00
You just said previously that you mostly browse hltv and listen to music at your job. But why do i even trying to argue with you. Its like trying to explain to saudi arabians that religion is outdated...
2017-04-05 13:02
What has that to do with my comment?? learn to read
2017-04-05 13:07
Sweden Kasidro
you are a nolifer because you sit and do your job? btw, most programmers don't constantly sit infront of their computers nowdays. You really have no clue how the world works
2017-04-05 13:01
Ok kid whatever you say . Programmers are rockstars :)
2017-04-05 13:03

It's nice to have SU
2017-04-05 10:36
internships help greatly with the cost, here in north america at least, a 4 month internship at a large company easily pays for a year of school (for software developers)
2017-04-05 10:42
good shit, nothing better than work experience and a degree. why are you quitting tho? making sure you have a degree or..?
2017-04-05 10:20
im quitting because my comapny do not offer any possibilities for further education. We work with relativ old IT-equipment...i dont think i wanna work in this company for 5 more years just for the money. I could have searched for another job but i decided to go the uni as long as im young and be able to do it you know...
2017-04-05 10:25
Lol then you shall try to find a better company, dude. Education sucks, unless it is MIT or Harward or something similar. I'm currently in exactly opposite situation, gonna leave school for full time job (but I've already got bachelor's degree)
2017-04-05 10:36
thats what some people also told me but look as long as im young and able to study why shouldnt i do it? its to late when i have family... its nearly impossible to study when you have kids and wife. Finding a job in IT wont be problem atleast where i live.
2017-04-05 10:39
How did you get into your current job? As far as I understood you don't already have a degree so did you self learn?
2017-04-05 10:55
i graduated from high school with ok grades (no university) -> searched for IT job and found one pretty quick -> in germany you have to do a 3 years qualification (or whatever is called in english) in a company -> after that qualification my chef told me i can stay in the company and work for them.
2017-04-05 11:02
Turkey dogboi2001
Why would the chef need a software developer? Nice bait thread kiddo

I think he meant hardware developer. Someone needs to develop the bread each morning.
2017-04-06 12:10
a lot of companies filter out resumes of candidates who do not have a degree, and all OP has on a resume right now is an entry level position. I think it's a pretty good choice provided that the school he attends isnt terrible
2017-04-05 10:54
what was ur yearly salary ?
2017-04-05 10:22
its all relative, 80k in luxembourg is eh, in spain you live like a lot better
2017-04-05 10:23
2017-04-05 10:24
im earning ~ 30k per year after taxes (around 2500 monthly) which is a pretty ok salary for a single person without childs. i live in germany not belgium (belgium roots tho)
2017-04-05 10:31
Wow that's a great salary you have but I quit uni due to other issues. Any tips when starting to find for work man? Depresses me people complaining about difficulty in finding jobs and such.
2017-04-05 10:36
it depends on where you live but one thing i can tell you: I personally wouldnt apply to big companys anymore. I would seek for a young/modern company. I work in a relative big company and theres no room for creativity and such. Sure its a safe enviroment but you will realise quick that you die inside lol risk = fun

how long have you been working? because once you graduate you'll barely find a job anyway, a university degree is only good if you have long experience in something
2017-04-05 11:04
this is more likely a scenario you mentioned i opt for
2017-04-05 11:12
5 years (nearly 6) Finding an IT-Job is no big deal where i live. I wanna go to Uni as long as im able to do it. Dont need to go there when im 30 lol

do not waste your time, just work & get experience experience (especially in software engineering) >>> education
2017-04-05 11:23

i also work as a programmer and started to study network engineering at an uni (not full time). because programming is so routine i feel like i need something more
2017-04-05 11:27
i was thinking about doing uni part time after work but i want to leave my current company anyway so i decided to go to uni fulltime. Also i think its better to focus on either one, must be very stressful to do it part time
2017-04-05 11:31
Russia leld
yes i work like 6-7 hours and it's still stressful and i have bad grades, also i have to ask for days off during the exams. if i could live with parents like you i'd just live and study but i can't
2017-04-05 11:53
is there no financial support for people who want to do further education? Here in germany we have this possibility so i could keep on living in my own appartment and study fulltime but i didnt want to do it. much respect tho for people who do both at the same time, shows discipline
2017-04-05 11:58
No, zero financial support.

advice on learning languange? c+, python, etc. how long have you been working? and what's your daily routine?
2017-04-05 11:36
5 years my daily routine is checking outlook if nothing special i go on hltv til lunch break, same after lunch break. If there are projects to do i normaly do alot of brainstorming with colleagues (whats the need, how do we realise it etc.). It sounds boring but its actually the best part of a project. After that we do alot of testing depending on the size of the project and then go live. Depends on what you wanna do, if you wanna go Web-Programming: PHP, JavaScript, SQL, learn how to work with Bootstrap, jQuery, AJAX - many companies here search for jQuery and Bootstrap people. For App-Programming: Probably focus on C++ and Java but it really depends...Python also very good
2017-04-05 11:45
World meesohowny
that sounds exactly like what im doing atm.. lel. and it's fucking boring, its litterally sitting simulator. is this the reason why you want to go uni?
2017-04-05 12:01
no i mainly want to leave my current company. I had alot of discussion with parents and friends about either getting a new job or go to uni. I just think its the best time for me now to go to uni because in few years it might be to late.
2017-04-05 12:05

They might teach you some useless things in the university like assembly or something else and you'll have to improve your programming skills by yourself but after finishing your uni you can get better job. Good luck & don't give up

thx bro unfortunately lots of stuff in school/uni is useless but i guess we all have to deal with it.

I am at it too, just for the title studying double degree :D
2017-04-05 12:02
nice, good luck
2017-04-05 12:14
You really think software development is about a degree? Best developers in every company usually don't have one, it's all about the skills.
2017-04-05 12:03
its true in some cases but how do you want to prove your skills to a company without certain degrees? Ofc you can tell them you programmed lots of apps and stuff but most companies wont care. Especially bigger companies who have lots of job-candidates look for people with certain degrees and grades.
2017-04-05 12:11
Bro every decent company has a technical interview at least, written or oral, where they check your skills. Any company who is looking for ppl just by degree or grades is a corporate mess and if you're dying inside from the job you have now, well, you'll be probably dead in a couple of months over there. Good companies will CARE THE MOST about the fact that you programmed lots of apps, because experience is the most important in this field. No one will reject you if you don't have a degree but you still aced the interview.
2017-04-05 12:19
well i dont know much about the application-procedure in your country but i can tell from my experience a personnel manager will check the degree and grades first. In my company our personnel manager has over 500 applications at the same time, its impossible to go deeply into every application. So first thing he does is select by degree and grades. Only AFTER this procedure a candidate will get the chance for an interview. Im not saying you're wrong i wish more companies would look into everyones individual skills. I just think most of the time its not the case, sadly.
2017-04-05 12:30
In our field when you get experience in a decent company, other companies start looking for you. I don't know what level of job you want to get, but here for a junior level you must pass an internship (which is easy to pass but hard to get into) and for a senior lvl you must have a couple of year of experience in a firm, skills in different tools and rarely a degree (which they won't even ask for in a interview, especially not look at grades lmao). If you're not misinformed and the application procedure is indeed how you make it out to be, then your field is lacking in creative developers. In unis you learn 50 languages, but until a basic level, knowledge which isn't enough even for an internship + they teach you a lot of side-shit just to fill your hours. I still got to finish my computer science uni, I need to pass a few exams, but I'm still considering if it's worth it or not.

I assume at this point you already have good knowledge ofpractical coding, so I can imagine, during your education you'll encounter a lot of basic things that are of no challenge to you. Nevertheless, having a degree is still vital today. We may not notice it in our 20s, but we will in our 30ies. Have you contemplated doing something new? Or, rather, expand your field of expertise? I think studying mechatronics would suit you well. After graduation, you should be able to develop software for engineering purposes which I personally find really cool. Gl anyway. You definitely should pursue a degree!
2017-04-06 12:39
i would like to do more web-programming in the future, which is something completely different of what im doing now. Thanks for your feedback man
