Didn't use FL studio, used ableton, Sampled a lot of drums from old vinyl break CD's. Didn't really use packsm if anything i'd use the illmind 1-6 kits, which are just drums sampled from break cd's.

This is at 130bpm. The original sample is way too slow for drums too. So i just chose a faster tempo instead of a slow af tempo, but thanks for the feedback, like I said I've just started so I'm still experimenting :) I couldnt find a good tempo for the sample so I just chose 130:d
2017-07-15 00:31
if you want more feedback your bass usage is pretty bad. bass needs to give some melody secondly your beat sample isn't interesting enough and it needs to be more in synch with the jazz sample u use. i don't know if u know a lot of triphop but i think listening to these beats might help you: youtube.com/watch?v=kWdFIEQpDP0 youtube.com/watch?v=6tGCTTe8T-4&list=PLx..

drums are not in the same texture of the piano, also the drums are way too loud. If you use FLStudio, go to the mixer -> master -> remove "Fruity Limiter", it makes your sound louder and distorted, you cant produce with it because you're not hearing what you're actually making, but a maked up supposed-to-be-mastered version of your song. You can only use FruityLimiter, Maximus, Ozone when you're almost done. @edit I recommend you to watch BusyWorksBeats's youtube channel, he produces hip hop but you're not there for the style, you're there for the knowledge.
2017-07-15 00:56
And you can leanr more about blahblah on busyworksbeats.com, this guy promotes his site like every 2 mins on his video lol

Yep, but still a very good channel. I also dont see a problem with it, he makes free content, it's fair to make merchandising(?) of his premium classes.

I know about busyworksbeats and all that stuff I learnt this stuff via few videos + playing around these past 3 days. I know about mixing and stuff, I know about eq'ing, I know about mastering, I know about sidechaining I just need to practice

Yep. Most of time you will make a beat you will want to share with everyone you see crossing the streets only to listen to it in the morning and hear how shit it is. When you're playing with the buttons you get used to the crap you're making, so it sounds nice to you when its garbage for anyone else whose ears arent tired. Since limiter isnt on, the only logic thing to think is that you didnt compare your song with any other song, that's why you didnt realized the drums are too loud and the song lacks bass (not talking about kick and 808s).

Whatever you do, DO NOT listen to this guy. He's got no clue what he's talking about. A limiter is a tool to limit audio to a certain db, not a tool to "showcase" what a mastered version would sound like. In fact it has nothing to do with that. A limiter can be used in mastering but it's not the purpose of it. if a waveform would spike above the certain value set to the limiter it would peak normally unless above 0db, where it would clip and that would cause distortion, depending on what playback rate and and bitrate your DAW plays back. FL is 32bit float which means it wont distort but as soon as you export it to a .wav or .mp3 it will distort. A limiter would only cut out the part going above the set value and leave the rest of the information intact.
