University students
Poland blackbread
Hello! So I'm starting university very soon and I was wondering if there are any university students out there! If so what is your field of study and what university did you go to/ are you currently going to?

Sorry but to reproduce is the highest priority for every life form, including man kind.
2017-09-17 12:01
Interesting that you compare getting drunk and laid every weekend, lusting after woman to reproducing and then you put on a condom or force her to take a pill so she won't get pregnant. All you do is wasting your time and semen on woman for a little bit of pleasure. At least you can say you fucked X girls after you finished your degree. Your thought process is too simple. Instead focus on something that matters, your career, your business and self improvement and you can still have sex on the side, but then with quality women that are in the same boat.
2017-09-17 12:10
No. Your initial comment was "You have low priorities if fucking". Not getting drunk, not putting condom or takin pills, just fucking.

I know you're simply trying to vent your frustration but since I'm currently bored as shit, I'll bite. FIrst of all, I hardly ever go on hltv, nor do I even play csgo. Used to go on this site and forum semi regularly when I was a junior in highschool but then I forgot the password and never looked back. Opened an hltv account a couple of months ago and still barely went on it, the only reason I'm on it now is because I decided to visit my family at a polish village before starting university, been here for about a week, and I'm honestly bored out of my mind :D. Second of all I'm not lazy, nor am I anti-social, as you implied. I spent the last 3 months (after graduating) busting my ass working a couple of different jobs to make some cash, and now I'm taking 2 weeks off before going to university. Third of all, a quick visit at your profile tells me you have made over 8000 comments, so I highly doubt you have a particularly rich social life. Good luck in the future, remember that being nice to people can get you a long way!

DO what you do with most ease/like to do. If you do something that your parents recommend or force you to take, you will end up tilted and unhappy in a few years. Don't ask for people's advice, listen to your inner feeling. Sadly most civilians don't have that " inner voice ".
2017-09-17 11:48
I get what you're saying and I completely agree. We get to choose our own path. I truly believe university is not for everyone and different people thrive in different environments. Personally I've always wanted to go to university, and my parents never really pushed me to do anything.
2017-09-17 12:12
Your parents probly want you to be happy doing whatever you like ( even if its manual labor ). A lot of parents push their kids to do certain thing because they have traditional view on education and thats not right. To each their own

Bachelor of economics in Handels gbg and mechanical engineering at Chalmers. What are you gonna study?
2017-09-17 11:55
How is Chalmers?
2017-09-17 12:11
The whole culture at Chalmers is great. Hard to explain but it's very united and really makes you feel a part of it. Lots of opportunities in form of "student unions" (kårföreningar) that you can participate in, great teachers and scientists working with very interesting things. Like any engineering school it's a very demanding and requires you to put in a whole lot of time, so you really must feel dedicated to the studies. They say you should see your uni-time as a work-week so you should study 40 hours a week, including the time spent at lectures then ofc, but in reality I think most people maybe spend 30-35 hours a week on the studies. Comparing Chalmers to some smaller engineering university in Karlstad for instance; Chalmers is a lot harder but you will also be a lot more attractive for companies and have better knowledge than someone with an exam from Karlstads university. Then there's like any university lots of parties, events and fun activities, most include heavy drinking but is of course no requirement. Do you have plans to study at Chalmers?
2017-09-17 12:33
Okay interesting, thx for the informative answer. Was thinking about it for a while but you need high af grades to get in, i have around 17 in meritvärde so i would need to do högskoleprovet to get in and i kinda cba.
2017-09-17 14:28
Chalmers also have "högskolingenjörs" programs that are 3 years long. You can study mechanical engineering but for högkskoleingenjör for instance. You've enough points to get in. It's also a very good education. Just 3 years education, very attractive for companies so will be no problem to get a job. The difference in salary isn't that big either. Many högskolingenjörer makes 4k+ after 5-10 years.
2017-09-17 14:40
Okay i'll look into that thx man :)
2017-09-17 14:49
chalmers.se/sv/utbildning/program-pa-gru.. chalmers.se/sv/utbildning/program-pa-gru.. I know a couple who go these 2 programs and they've only got good things to say. If you like robots and automation, Mekatronik is a really cool program.

You have a bachelor's degree (typically ~3 years of study I assume) in economics, and you moved to a completely different field of mechanical engineering for the master's degree? Well done man, but how?
2017-09-17 17:03
I began studying mechanical engineering first. Started to get bored of all the CAD and thermodynamics so decided to take a break from Chalmers to see what I wanna do. In this break I started studying economics instead and right now I'm studying both but the focus is on economics. Think I'll quit mechanical engineering sooner or later since it's very time consuming studying both.

Everything that has to do with engineering is almost the same. You study how it works, how to design yourself something and how to work with it. Nothing much. Not harder than any other engineering profession.
2017-09-17 22:47
No, i meant how it is different to other engineering subjects, i assume it is very theoretical compared to e.g aerospace engineering or automotive engineering .

You cant compare totally different areas like that :) It's nonsense. Think about all the cases that should be solved, different situations, different people, sometimes it's harder to pronounce on something than to analise/solve something in pure mathematics. I have my point, you have your, so it's ok :)

currently still in the fourth of the six years in high school. The highest level of schooling and soon planning to go to university. school advised me to go to law school but for now struggling with Latin and old-Greece
2017-09-17 13:26
I dropped Latin and greece for german when I went to the 4th grade on the highest level of schooling as well. Currently redoing 5th grade because I was lazy last year. Are you doing the technic or economic classes?

economic... but that means you just dropped 'gymnasium' ;P

my grandma always said ppl going to university and doing stuff that is not medical or laywer related are the most stupid people in the world and just wanna ditch/avoid the working life after school to have more freedom...

good for her :)

she used to help kids without parents to find their right way not for money but for love until she was 60 retired and went to thailand for 10 years until she died there . so i guess she was kinda right and afterall had a good life .
2017-09-17 13:56
Was just a joke to point out that there are way more usefull fields than law or medical related. I think she didn't travel by a horse cart to thailand.

We now live in an age where doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the press destroys information, religion destroys morals, and our banks destroy the economy. why even bother going to university when they just want you to be a working slave ? if u wanna make the real money and life like a king u need to do illegal things . here in zurich many ppl have the highest degree but cant get a job cuz they already have to many overpayed IT , Pharma what ever guys .
2017-09-17 13:37
the time you waste at university you can also climb the working ladder really high if you're good and enjoy what you're doing so yeah in my opinion university is overrated, I have a bachelor of finance degree myself but after working in a bank for half a year I ended quitting and set up my own business selling overpriced sneakers to hipsters because its easy money and less work. if u want sneakers i hook you up klekt.in/user/profile/6997
2017-09-17 13:41
do u pay taxes for this ?
2017-09-17 13:44
well since its not an official work yet, nope .
2017-09-17 13:47
so hows the profit ? u can also write pm cuz im also had in mind to sell sneakers part time to my job
2017-09-17 13:50
well just check the link, those are the shoes from the last 2 months i made around 4 to 5k but since i used to worked every summer since i was 15 in a sneaker store i have alot of connection to get the new releases for retail , u need alot of connections to start sneaker business .

Nothing it's just that you are committing a lot of time to any engineering.
2017-09-18 23:08
I'm in a similar position since I'll go to university for the 1st time in a couple weeks. On one hand I'm pretty hyped cuz of all the freedom (My parents allow me to do a lot of stuff and to stay outside 'till late in the night but it's not the same) and I'm also a pretty social person that fits in most of the time so I'm anxious to meet new people and go through all the uni experience, on the other hand I'm kinda afraid that I'll party too much and I don't really know if what I choose is really what I'll like to do in the future... I don't know about you but I was pretty uncertain of what I wanted to study (Not really sure what I want now tbh...)

Yeah man, I'm also not sure if I chose the right field, it seems very interesting to me but there's always a chance I won't like it. I wouldn't worry about it too much, since you can always switch fields if you choose to do so. Honestly I'm a bit worried about the partying part as well, since I seem to have developped a tendency to get completely shitfaced every time I go to a party, I'll definitely have to tone it down a bit in order to not develop a habit
2017-09-17 14:02
This last year I started going out twice every weekend (Friday and Saturday) and started drinking a lot more... I mean I enjoyed a lot when I was with my friends or with girls but I'm afraid shit will go wrong if I keep this way of living in college

I find it weird that so little students from the US come study in Europe for free. Worst case scenario, you can spend a couple of thousands dollars and a year of life to learn German/Dutch/French/etc. and then you can easily study anything you want here and pay nothing.

No shit because they are at USA. You don't get a 9-5 job if you've graduated from those, nor do you get a student loan of only 100k, more 300k. You can also find elite universities in Europe (cambridge, oxford, st petersburg). But they are also expensive as fuck. So in his case I'll assume he was lower class and went to an average uni when he could've just gone to some uni in EU equally average but for free.

Which is what? Top 1% of Americans? The rest (or at least, 80%) go to normal schools, which aren't better or worse than any school in the EU (at least in rich countries), yet they charge you 20k/year just on tuition. But yeah, the top-top-top unis are undoubtedly all in the US and are by far superior to any European school (excl. a couple from UK, which are NOT free).

At the FH in Wiener Neustadt (30 min from Vienna). I believe it's the only program in the whole EU that is taught in English, but still almost free. That's how I ended up in Austria without knowing a single word in German lol. Now that I know I'll live here for at least 4 upcoming years, gonna finally start learning your crazy language ;)
2017-09-17 22:45
Oh, and where did you do your BSc? I wanted to start Aviation engineering in Graz but ended up going to Leoben for Material Sciences. And good luck learning German, some accents make it even more difficult to understand but in Lower Austria youll be alright.

I did my BSc back in Ukraine. I have a couple of aerospace friends that went to Leoben for their Master's theses (one Indian guy and the other from Belgium. The Belgian actually did some composites there, so you might even know him lol, cause it's your department). I heard it's a nice Uni, but Leoben itself is just like Wiener Neustadt - pretty much nothing happens there, although I've only been there once. Vienna or Graz (especially Graz) would've been much funner place to live. Yeah, I also heard Lower Austria is quite forgiving in terms of German. I don't directly need the language at my work, but it kinda sucks living in a country and not speaking their language haha

2017-09-17 16:52
it's my first year so I'm learning only one language (Danish). Next year, it will be Danish + Old norse. The learning of Swedish and Norwegian languages is "passive". Personally, I'm (already) learning Swedish "actively". Hard isn't the right adjective. It's just that we don't learn a language by only attending courses. You need to be curious, to work, to learn a lot by yourself. It takes time and personal investment^^

not necessarily, I have a passion for both. The misconception about majoring in some form of physics is that it is insanely challenging, it's really not. Most of it is very tedious and it's about time management.

Back when I was 17 I was admitted to one very good university for pure physics, but I decided to go more practical ($$, basically) and went for Aeronautical engineering. Worst decision of my life. After 6 years of BSc and MSc in aeronautical/aerospace all I still want is to learn fancy physics and maths, just like when I was 17. Now too for another bachelor's :( Also, as a physicist, consider focusing on computational fluid dynamics. You already probably know a lot about approximating the differential equations and it might be a perfect field for you to get into Aerospace industry. Obviously, it's very hard, but industry is desperate for those who solve Navier-Stokes for a living ;) have a nice day

I studied IT at Silesian University of Technology (Gliwice). IT is the best way to go, lots of workplaces in every bigger city and guaranteed satisfying income. Most of my friends got an internship and a job even before graduating. Any technical studies would be good - robotics, mechanics, mechatronics, electronics etc.
2017-09-18 13:15
I'm glad your hard work payed off man! Unfortunately I've never been particualrly good on the technical side...

but they're not that difficult are they? EDIT: compared to the ones they teach to electrical engineers
2017-09-18 18:22
They are the same, I'm doing them so I can change to electric engineering next year, they are like extracurricular subjects atm, but I will get the credits and I won't need to do them anymore if I change

Interesting you chose to do Archeology which I'm guessing people were telling you was a bad idea(?) Good luck with it dude. Staying in Poland for it?
2017-09-18 22:10
Yeah, when I tell people I'm going to study archeology they're usually quite unimpressed, and rightfully so to a degree. You see, archeology isn't the type of field that you choose if you want a practical job that pays a lot of money. I was perfectly aware of that when choosing that field, and the main reason I chose it was because I want to widen my horizons and expand my knowledge and I think I will find archeology very interesting. Truthfully, I don't know wether I've made the right decision but for now I'm just looking forward to starting university. And yeah, I'm staying in poland. :)

Looked it up, seems like a really amazing university. Are you actually learning how to speak in several languages or is it mostly learning about the origins of different langauges and how the developed?
