Hi guys, i have some questions about settings to CS 1.6. Maybe, for start I describe my computer. Procesor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz RAM: 4,00 GB GRAPHIC KART: NVIDIA GeForce 430 GT MOUSE: Steelseries kinzu v2 SYSTEM: Windwos 7 x64 1. Let's start with a question about the system, better is Windows 7 or Windows XP for Counter-Strike 1.6? During in the game, on Windows 7 I've 140 CPU, and on Windows XP - 90 CPU. 2. The next question relates to the graphics card. What are the best settings for the smooth operation of CS. (It isn't about 100fps, because I have them, it is a smooth operation and best performance). These are my current settings for the graphics card - . 3. And the last question, but rather asked to check my config, if everything is in it for some is more ambitious. What would you have removed , what they added, what that changed. This is my CFG - Sorry for this trivial subject, and for my poor English: P Thank you very much for any answers! bye!

2012-06-19 23:56
You still could help him as you understand, no ? :D

I'd like to ask too why it isnt since my hl.exe uses all 4 cores, I had usage monitor on my G15 on when I played(dont have it anymore since I changed to SS 6Gv2)

Doesnt matter which Windows you have.
2012-06-20 00:00
if you use vista, please delete C:\
2012-06-20 00:17
Thank you bro! I know it shit windows!
2012-06-20 00:20
Well everyone have their own experiance :) I had problems only with Windows 2000 (but I cant remmember why I even installed that OS somewhere between 2004-2006). XP, Vista, Win7 both x86 and x64 worked fine for me, especially when we are talking about CS1.6 :)
2012-06-20 01:07
who the fuck is this fellow instructing to delete C:\??? LOL.
2012-06-20 19:49
Dude, you heard him, delete C:\ Only way to go with Vista bro.
2012-06-20 20:27
What screen do you have ? Just keep w7, don't reinstall your computer with XP only for CS. Most of the pro players are on 7 now and they don't really complain.
2012-06-20 00:01
intel core 2 duo is the shit for cs!

Great GAMER!!
2012-06-20 19:51
if you dont have money to buy those buy these cpu - intel core i5 2500 (200e) motherboard - MSI P67A-GD65 B3 (140e) ram - Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1600 Kit (90e) graphics card - SAPPHIRE RADEON HD7770 GHZ EDITION OC VAPOR-X 1GB DDR5 (172e) os - windows 7 mouse - zowie ec2 (when they fixed the scroll wheel bug it is maybe the best mouse ever made) mousepad - steelseries NP+ (awesome) sound - your preference i use a dj headset by akg that costs almost 300e, i would propose you Astro A30 really awesome thats it :) with 1000$ you have a super gaming computer PURE POWER HERE :D
2012-06-21 01:05
This is also expensive :s
2012-06-21 03:40
1000$ for a gaming pc??? i dont find it expensive...this is capable of playing crysis2 at full graphics
2012-06-21 10:55
Zowie EC eVo has fixed scroll bug.
2012-06-21 10:53
wow nice assemble system...
2012-06-22 08:17
Despite my good computer, I set the graphics card performance - the game is now smoother and better.
2012-06-20 10:19
I have Intel Celeron 2.13GHz, 1GB RAM and integrated card Intel X3100 ... this is the game ! :D 60FPS and freezes, when HEs explose :D
2012-06-20 12:05
For CS firstly change processor than graphic card :)
2012-06-20 12:57
just like me fps max 60 On smoke 14 flashlight 1
2012-06-20 19:45
Noob go change PC.
2012-06-20 19:51
it's something like that with me xD
2012-06-21 03:16
There are no "perfect" settings ffs.... Everyday people makes these threads and imo it's really hopeless. Just try some different settings and go by with those who suit you most! HF GL
2012-06-20 12:09
Procesor: 3.5GHz 1 core processor is better (more fps) than 2.5Ghz 4 cores processor for CS (less fps), because CS during session uses only 1 core of processor, when he need more he take next one but but usually only one. Btw. CS doesn't like 4 cores processor (sometimes with 4 cores CS usually jitter), thats why on some processor you need to change processor affinity (ustaw koligacje) to only 2 cores. 1. Obvious, Windows 7 or dual windows boot XP for CS, 7 for other new games. 2. 3. Use default one.
2012-06-20 12:57
ty ;)
2012-06-20 13:02
is it important on how many Hz I play ? if yes, what should I choose ? 60 70 or 75 ?
2012-06-20 20:15
maximum possible unless you've got 120Hz possibility you might aswell play with 100Hz
2012-06-20 20:45
ty, i will try it
2012-06-22 14:55
processor is much important thank graphics card? :O
2012-06-20 21:37
Ofcourse lol
2012-06-21 02:49
Without a doubt.
2012-06-21 10:52
I have 2 core processor 1.6Ghz and GeForce 7300SE/7200GS and i think my fps problem is from graphics card.
2012-06-21 18:02
No, your processor is really weak for fps. You need 2.5GHz processor even with 1 core.
2012-06-21 18:31
I read many things about this card and many people said it's totally shit. Are you sure?
2012-06-21 18:54
I had FX5200 with better processor and my fps was 100, of course not stable with smoke.
2012-06-21 19:48
Your computer is probaly one of the worst computers ive seen.
2012-06-22 15:05
Yes i know :[
2012-06-22 20:34
GUYS CMN!!!!!!! you are talking about a game that came out almost 10 years ago. I played CS 1.6 on my first Pentium 2 PC, and it did good, now everyone speaks of their "monster machines".. ba-hamba... i had 256 mgb ram, and now i have 4 gb, and the game-play is the same.. its not COD MW3, its just good old CS.. and we love it for it. for the thread opener: just set your nvidia settings for preform. rather then quality, and put: FORCE OFF.. fps wont drop. bla bla bla etc, put all legal settings, and set your config the way it suits you the best. set your kinzu to acceleration off, and have fun. and your OS, it makes no difference if you kill the acceleration (as i said).. ** god damn people.
2012-06-20 13:28
You're wrong.

im sure u didnt play 1.6 (steam) in 2002. when steam came out, everything changed. there is no way that system would get 100fps (post 1.5)
2012-06-22 15:13
hi there, can you post common hardware config of that used in big tournaments ? e.g processor, gfx cards, ram etc
2012-06-22 15:45
Don't forget to tweak your 'Limited Reservable Bandwith' to 0% in gpedit.msc.
2012-06-20 19:55
Vista don't have gpedit and W7 i think too.
2012-06-20 21:35
W7 has it.
2012-06-21 10:46
does it help anyhow?
2012-06-22 15:10
Lol, you have 140°C on CPU during the game? =-O I don't thing it's possible that high temp. Even notebook's cpus have TCase max about 90°C.
2012-06-20 20:33
yeah mine peaks at 100 and its pretty dangerous heat for the cpu. I've managed to keep it now between 55-75, usually about 60-65 during game. 140 not even close to what it should be, though I'm not even sure if poles use celsius or some other like fahrenheit, kelvin or such. edit: fahrenheits could be possible since 140F = 60C but in the other hand when I personally read the authors text it seems like he's speaking of cpu usage of somesort but dont rly get it anyway :D
2012-06-20 20:50
I think Poles use Celsius scale, but rather he uses program, which shows temperature in °F , because 140°C is fatal temp for CPU, maybe some graphics card can handle this temp, but still it's very high. I've heart about 125°C max on GFX core. If he wrote about CPU usage, then I can't get how is it possible to load CPU @140% :D.
2012-06-20 21:04
This CPU he had on mind ;-)
2012-06-20 21:34
Aha, then I don't know what does this value mean.
2012-06-20 23:52
yep me either, no freakin idea.. this must be some poland shit. :D but yeah my gfx card peaks out at 70C and its very very high.. I think that 125C sounds a lot too high and fatal too.
2012-06-21 04:55
This is current CPU & cores usage by CS, you can check it with "stats" command in console.
2012-06-21 10:51
GPU cores are more temperature-resistant than CPU cores. Yeah, 125°C is very high temp, but it was treshold temp on my old nVidia 6600GT or x1650PRO, I don't remember which one (but it was similar). The highest temp I reach on this card was ~105°C with artifacts in picture :-/ :D.

win xp + 640 RES + gl_max_size "256" + syastem restore OFF gl
2012-06-21 02:02
why not gl_max_size "128"?
2012-06-21 18:03
Because "256" is minimum.
2012-06-21 18:32
Man, no! I have 128 and it's different than 256
2012-06-21 18:51
2012-06-21 19:45
gl_max_size >= 128 edit: or just try on your PC i can give you 2 screenshots with the difference
2012-06-21 20:08
Poland kaefix
is different of 256 to 512?
2012-06-21 19:14
In fps it's dim change. Stay with default 512.
2012-06-21 19:46
What does gl_max_size change with FPS? :/ I'm curious
2012-06-21 20:07
gl_max_size it's maximum size of texture / less size of texture = more fps, simple
2012-06-21 20:11
Yeah so it's mean a less quality of models, etc. right? That doesn't sound so good xD
2012-06-21 20:12
Yes. It's difference between 128 and 256.
2012-06-21 20:26
Thanks a lot! Well 640res + gl_max_size 256 would be a killing combo for my eyes :O

1. XP 2. With this PC I suggest full High Quality settings which helps you to see easier at long distances. 3. good settings, hpk_maxsize 0.001 is pretty pointless with that kind of PC. Just use default settings + rates and binds. If you have problems with FPS, you can set CS to use only 1 core. You can do this by opening CS and then go to task manager -> processes -> hl.exe (right click) -> affinity and leave only 1 of the 4 cores with a mark on it. However, you have to do this every time when you launch CS. I don't think it is necessary tho since I have Dual Core 2.6 Ghz CPU and I don't have a problem with it whatsoever. GL HF

but play only 1 core it's very shitty. i tested it and i felt that 1 core = less firespeed

yeah, just said that can be helpful to some.

remember there is no such thing as best settings... it´s what is in your hands and brain that makes you good, not a different mouse :P
