How did CS come to this?

Denmark staraxe
Having Misfits vs Hellraisers aka tier 2 teams at max in ESL Pro League quarter finals?? I remember heaving exciting matches in quarters like NiP vs Envy and Astralis vs VP now we have this. there are 40k people watching and that was the number of viewers watching an online match in 2015/16. WHAT HAPPEND?

2017-12-08 20:41
bullshit. look at the metrics and you will see that yt viewershit is way lower compared to the same matchups on twitch

"that was the number of viewers watching an online match in 2015/16" lolno 40-60k is where T1a and T2 events end up for bracket matches and it's been like that for three years.

maybe for NA team online matches only have 10k viewers but faceit and esl had 40k viewers in online matches in 15/16
2017-12-08 20:41
Bets were the only thing that kept online match viewership figures high. Online tier 3 games could end up having up to 10k viewers, now they'd be lucky to get 1000. Shame how the gambling scene dragged down the betting scene with it.

Each team gets what they deserve. If you are VP and drink vodka while playing online matches you end up in premier. If you win one LAN like NiP and then stop practicing then you don't get out of the groups. HR worked hard and improved so they are here.

2017-12-08 21:43
if they were not able to compete at this level then they wouldnt be here. they made it farther than c9 did by just making it to the finals. misfits are actually improving a lot and are actually really good
2017-12-08 21:37
do you remember those threads about the NiP and fnatic eras where people would compare SK and current top tier teams?? what was one of the most common things that people said? "CS was not as competitive as it is now" look at the tournament results over the past year... they're all over the place with several different teams. players are better at the game now, people have figured out ways to play against certain teams, and orgs are mixing up rosters left and right the majority of players on the Misfits and HR lineups have been in the scene for a long time and the rest of them are very good overall... they are playing well, they have defeated good teams, and they deserve to be in the quarterfinals
2017-12-08 21:43
exactly. CSGO is by far the most competitive it's ever been.
2017-12-08 21:43
Csgo done
2017-12-08 21:57
Misfits and HR deserve to be there. Not their fault the former tier 1 teams took their positions for granted and didn't continue to develop their skill while all these young players stayed hungry and grinded to get to the top. People need to stop fanboying the former top teams and except that CSGO is more competitive now and any team in the top 20 can beat any other team. Only FaZe and SK are currently a notch above the rest while all the other teams are pretty much equal.

It's not about youtube or the teams it's about the game becoming a bit stale for most people.
2017-12-08 21:54
but but "most competitive era" .......
2017-12-08 21:55
not cs fault the OG's dont give af about the game and cant adapt to the meta xD
2017-12-08 21:55
The other ones are to bad to make playoffs, cuz they got rekt by tier 5 teams (except for fnatic and sk)
2017-12-08 21:56
Nothing.
2017-12-08 21:57
If HR and Misfits are playing now its because they deserve it over other teams. NiP/nV were amazing once , not this time. the competitive scale of CSGO is unstable at this moment.

There's so much CS these days. That's a big factor with both the viewership and especially with this "Era of upsets" we've been having. Spectators don't have to watch Misfits vs Hellraisers no matter how prestigious the event, because there's more top quality CS just around the corner (ECS finals). From August to Christmas there's pretty much 3 to 6 nights a week of pro CS - online leagues and tournaments, bigger ones and smaller ones. T2 events these days have your EnVys and NaVis even when they're not stacked with every good team on Earth. "Well, I guess I'll watch this." That schedule definitely affects the players and teams as well, bringing them more susceptible to having "off-days", burnout, fatigue: they're just unable to focus 270 days out of a year. Anti-stratting is more viable than ever, because you have 8000 demos of any team's any map, enabling underdog-victories more often. Shit-tier teams can have a couple of really good players these days, due to the wideness of playerbase - they go off, they can win anyone. One more thing, CS:GO is far from dying. It's constantly growing as far as the money is concerned, thus producing more and more teams that "can beat anyone if all goes their way". These are some thoughts about this matter.
2017-12-08 22:08
HR and Misfits are playing great CS. If it was SK vs Misfits there wouldn't be point. but HR and Misfits both can compete against each other.

If teams couldn't beat Misfits and HR then they simply don't deserve it, NiP are shit now, EnVyUs are poor, G2 inconsistent, Astralis had a stand in

I personally think its great to see HR and misfits doing well. Well deserved, hope Misfits can make it to the final. In any sport, I really enjoy seeing the underdogs do well and having upsets in the competition. Makes the tournament much more interesting. Doesnt matter what sport we're talking about.
