It’s a rule repeal, so it doesn’t have to pass Congress unless they want to get involved, which they probably won’t. It will probably go through numerous trials in court due to lawsuits but other than that it’s pretty much a done deal.

its not done. still possible to tunnel all your traffic thru VPN so i ISP cant distinguish it, either block all or none of it. its also possible big tech companies can roll their own ISPs. (tho google has been scaling back google fiber for a couple years now) its also possible states can regulate ISP as public utilities. but it sucks if things keep going down this way. I totally regret cheering for that orangutan now
2017-12-14 21:50
Why can't the traffic to your VPN be targeted? ex. ISP deal with other VPN(which doesn't provide what you want).

what do u mean ISP deal with other VPN? i said the ISP can't distinguish VPN traffic. they can either block/throttle all of it or none of it. if i have a node on AWS, the ISP will either allow me to talk to my node, or won't. they cant make me use some other VPN. they can;t make me buy a youtube package a netflix package a whatever package.
2017-12-14 23:36
But VPN1 may have bought a deal with your shitty ISP, while VPN2 have not. Therefore VPN1 traffic will be slower, no?

this is what a customer can do. drop all upgraded addons from the plan. purchase an internet connection that allows connecting to a node on AWS, run VPN server on that node, and from every device connect to the VPN first then surf. the ISP either sells you a un-throttled connection to AWS or they dont. if they dont you dont pay for it. if they do, you buy that plan and the ISP can no longer learn/distinguish what you are doing. if ISPs wanna price fix and jack up prices they can do with or without net neutrality.
2017-12-14 23:46
Yeah, I get the idea. Not optimal though.

nothing will be optimal while that orangutan is in charge. the low life Obola was no better either. (he was better on net neutrality but he never met a terrorist he didnt have a crush on so....) this is why i have been libertarian for long time. the world needs decentralisation and choice. Orangutan deciding how the internet should work is what you get with global govt.
2017-12-14 23:54
What do you even mean you regret cheering for him? I mean, no offense, but how did you not know what he stood for prior to the election???

trust me, if the USA have net neutrality, it will take max 2 - 5 years and whole EU will also have it aswell. Sadly, everything in the EU is pretty much owned by Americjews corporations.

the common-carrier status is a designation by the US government for businesses in the United States. 'Net neutrality' assigned common carrier status to broadband providers as an anti-trust provision, because such a small number of companies own so much of the infrastructure the internet uses, and putting a 'competing' infrastructure would simultaneously be just about the dumbest most wasteful use of resources ever And pretty much impossible considering how many times the government allowed the companies to use eminent domain seizures of personal property to get the infrastructure in place. Today's decision removed the common carrier status from broad band providers. Removed the guarantee of 'Net Neutrality' So the government decided it was in the nation's best interest to seize private property to allow these companies to build their networks, but are now saying it is not in the country's best interest to guarantee access to this infrastructure. Pretty much as good as it gets for the owners of the infrastructure, because even though 'common interest' was used to create it, it is still 100% private and totally controlled by the companies.

what are you talking about lmao he didn't ask for anybodies opinions on whether it was good or bad or whatever he asked WHAT IT IS so how does that make anyone a sheep you fucking idiot

It's the possibility for ISPs to treat traffic differently. Ex. Netflix can pay for their traffic to be prioritized. This way big companies can pay for their services to be better. Why is it so bad? Many reasons. As ISPs can dictate who gets bandwidth, they can effectively stop whatever services they want. ex. You want your HBO traffic to go through, that will cost you money, because ISP has deal with netflix. It is not certain this is how it would be(it wouldn't in the beginning), but it is a posibillity, it opens for it. Valve hasn't paid your specific ISP to prioritize their traffic -> packet loss. It will be harder for competitors of big companies, as they can't afford to pay for priority. "Positive": big companies can make sure that their traffic goes smoothly.
