Studies show attractiveness is not really that subjective, we all basically rate people the same. It's just that some people have lower or slightly different standards if they perceive themselves to be less attractive and different. Basically we all judge others the same, but are more lenient towards people "in our league".

Studies also should that people you associate tend to have very similar preferences to yourself and that two completely different groups that are completely unaffiliated with one another will have random preferences in comparison. This means that what most people consider aesthetically pleasing is highly influenced by the society they live in. This is also supported by the fact that the majority of those that have "out of the ordinary" preferences for the opposite gender are generally social outcasts.

That was also implied in what I wrote. "This means that what most people consider aesthetically pleasing is highly influenced by the society they live in." It's true that it is influenced by the society and culture they live in, but it's not that heavy of an influence. Supposing same ethnicity is usually similar culture, you could look at the stats the poster posted. As for the social outcasts, I'm not so sure about that, but don't really know.
