I really liked it. It had a lovely atmosphere. Big city air and still a little dreamy. I do not have lot of comparison of US cities tho. Visited relatives in Wisconsin, so I only saw Minneapolis, Green Bay, Chicago and a lot of countryside and dead deer on the side of the road. :)
There are big differences in terms of city layout compared to european cities. For example, nearly every city here has a large pedestrian zone downtown (no cars at all), with shops and stuff. In the US there are shopping streets in bigger cities, but shopping usually seems to be more remote and centered around malls. Also you need the car for everything. In Europe you got everything closer together and eventually are able to reach it even by foot from your home. And if not - you got a really well developed public transport.
