RIP loot crates? Or rip Belgium?
United States guestguy2
Belgium is categorizing Loot Crates in CS:GO as illegal gambling, with 800k Euro penalty and 5 years jail time for selling them, double if underage people are opening them. Does this mark the end of skins in CS:GO? The end of Belgium players because valve blocks it from being sold there? IS EU going to follow suit? NA? Are we going to be left with only Brexited English players? arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/04/video-gam..

Good, they can easily make it so that people go to an ingame menu and buy wtv they want instead of opening a randy box.

So only discontinued items would have after market value? Pretty big hole in their current business model of scraping a few % from market transactions

They'd be losing the same as they do now with everyone that uses 3rd party sites to sell instead of their market. They'd still get market fees. Most people would still be selling their skins as they get tired of them, and there would be people on the lookout to save a fee $€. As soon as they removed something from their ingame shop, prices would rise and their cut would go higher. All that changes is that you would pay directly for the item you want instead of buy a key to possible get nothing from it.
2018-04-25 21:24
well you never got nothing from opening the crate, you couldn't 'bust', but ya .03 skin for 2.50 key is close, but trade up contracts are a thing at least What would be different from CS:GO selling the skin you want and going to the market now and getting the skin you want? Price? (for someone shopping directly for a skin)

They'd still need a way to pump new skins into the market to avoid it going stall and prices getting retarded. Think about new skins. If there were no crates, there wouldn't be a way to have those skins in the market
2018-04-25 21:29
Ya would be a different scene by a long shot if you could directly pick your skin and skin quality. Also the color variations and what not, who wouldnt chose ruby ya know?

Didn't think about those variations tbh. Tbh it would be a far fetch to call gambling to getting a skin with a random pattern.. If they could still have them random, trading would still be as viable as it is now.

Yeah probably the end of skins in CS GO, coz Belgium is such a big market. Too big to fail market at least.

turns out belgium is responsible for 97% of all case opening, who knew? That would be hilarious
2018-04-25 21:12
I would be to compensate their 0% in worldwide bretzels sells. They don't eat it coz they can't undo nodes.
2018-04-25 21:16
who is actually still opening cases in 2k18?
2018-04-25 21:09

All this shitty paternalism makes me sick. If people are not smart enough not to squander everything on loot crates or if kids get addicted to it using their parents credit cards it's all their fault (or their parents). Normal people have their liberty toiled because of shitty socialist mind.
2018-04-25 21:11
you ain't wrong Personally, I think the line is drawn at deception.
2018-04-25 21:16
Well the rules are clear. You pay for a small chance of getting a high enough prize. No one is guaranteeing anything.
2018-04-25 21:21
I agree, other than not listing exact odds, CS:GO does a decent job making you aware the items are random and based on rarity scale.

Well it's being talked about in Germany and the Netherlands as well which probably means that the entire EU will Follow at some point.
2018-04-25 21:35
interesting, I know that it has been topic of discussion, I honestly thought CS:GO cosmetic crates were a different animal than what they were discussing. Hopefully Valve's strategic planning is on point
2018-04-25 23:35
Seems good decision, loot crates are big scam to get young people money, value u get vs money you spend just never maches at all xddd...
