When I was a teenager I only listened to metal From Iron Maiden over Nightwish to Heaven Shall Burn, I liked a lot of different metal genres I was on many festivals and concerts, have several autographs and stuff I was a really annoying teen that told everyone who liked other music like pop or hip hop that they don't have any taste and they only listen to bad music where no talent is needed and now I find myself rarely listening to metal anymore. I mostly listen to different electronic genres and rap and at the moment I enjoy it much more actually I feel much freer now. Back then I skipped every song that wasn't , metal even if deep down I would maybe enjoy it. Now I just listen to what I want without any limitations. no matter how trash a song might be, as long as I enjoy it it doesn't matter. I'm also much more tolerant now, I don't judge people for their musical taste and try out a lot of new stuff if someone shows it to me. some of my old friends say I lost my musical identity, but actually I think I evolved. does anyone have similar experience? or did you stay with the music you liked as a teen?

Yeah, i used to listen to metal only but for like a year now, my music taste has expanded a lot. i really enjoy listening to all different types of rap, from mumbling, trapping and actually saying some lyrical stuff. I can relate to you about being "freer". I wrote this on my phone so it might be a bit messy lUl

You got brainwashed. Rip fellow metalhead Edit: As a teenager i wouldn't listen to anything that i felt it meant something, (rock, soul, blues, metal). I would listen to rap and pop shit. At about 16 i started listenning to rock and it just kept upgrading from there, opening my eyes to what real music is about. Meaning, Harmonics, Melodys, Rhythm. The lyrics are super important to me and most of pop and "trap" stuff is just straight up sexual.

+1 iron maiden is much better than most of metal nowadays like behemoth or mayhem
2018-04-26 05:09
i like his unique vocal style - not really screamo metal, it just sounds really good to me imo. it's the only metal I've ever listened to and really liked.
2018-04-26 09:16
dont compare maiden to mayhem. wtf. mayhem had only like 1 or 2 good albums in the 90s. maiden is like in the top 3 greatest metal bands ever and mayhem is propably somewhere in the top 100

I was the same way with metal, the only difference is I still listen to it from time to time. I try to listen to different genres of music at different times (metal, grunge, rap, pop etc) to make sure my taste doesn’t get stale
2018-04-25 23:48
good don't listen to that. i personally listen to wood or grass
2018-04-25 23:49
Very smart choice indeed
2018-04-25 23:50
I am personally a fan of rock
2018-04-26 04:24
rock is good i listened to it before but i just think wood is better
2018-04-26 05:12
You are a traitor, dont ever call youself a metal fan, poser. Im a diehard metal fan but sometimes i get me listening to other genres, its normal, but i would never abandon my thrash/speed/power musics Also i never went to a concert, it doesnt matter Sorry to be rude

"it doesnt matter" doesnt matter nowadays since its full of posers with their cameras taking selfies and filming, you can barely have a experience i support them by buying products also i play guitar for almost 5 years
2018-04-26 00:35
i listen to anything that sounds decent don't care about the genre

There's no bad music genre. Each one has its quality and garbage. The worst people are the "I listen to everything but rap and country" people, though. Good music comes from a powerful lyrical message or a demonstration of superior talent, and the real gems include both.
2018-04-25 23:59
I am actually very similar my friend. I was big in to metal back in the day, still listen to it of course. But I find that im pulled towards EDM music, Hip Hop, and more mellow moods as I age. I Still rage to Fear Factory, Pantera, Dream Theater etc. But Im listening to Coast Modern 'Guru' right now and I dig it. :)
2018-04-26 00:09
yeah I still listen to metal sometimes and I like it, but mostly I listen to EDM and rap stuff I listen to some ethno, ambient and rock stuff as well, so I'm not really limited to a genre intersting how personal taste can change
2018-04-26 02:04
Kinda, I liked metal cuz it had much energy like other genres sounded so powerless but nowadays it is not same for me anymore, I just listen a lot of different kinds of music now.
2018-04-26 00:13
If you had evolved into some prog, classical, blues, jazz Id say nothing. But you actually downgraded to synthetic trash party music. But to each its own I guess as long as it gets you pussy.
2018-04-26 00:12
back then I liked very "complex" music like some symphonic and prog metal stuff. I still like it, I listen for example to Epica songs an regular basis but I like simplistic music as well. clear melodies, strong base line and good flow are for me equal to complex song structures and sudden changes in time signature I like both, but overall and tend to listen to electronic stuff more often
2018-04-26 02:08
I just don't mix party music with appreciation music. I can party to anything, but actually listening to things on my own is another story. For me most eletronica and hip hop are just party music.
2018-04-26 04:20
for me thta is completely different I can listen to "party" music on my own, no problem (and I do it very often^^) and there are a lot of electronic and rap songs that are not suited for parties at all
2018-04-26 09:30
Holy shit dude, i had a very similar story to yours, i can't believe someone just like me exists! It comes with age and in my case I don't like to listen the same stuff over and over again, so I've been always trying to explore and find new stuff. Eventually you'll find some good stuff beyond metal and go that way (I think most people move away from metal at some point). I started with goth/symphonic metal when I was 13-14, then industrial and even black metal, slowly started to get into progressive stuff and couldn't stand the loud noise and screams any longer. Now I listen to jazz, house and Jamiroquai is the best thing ever to me. People change over time and that's fine, we grow up and it's hard to be on the "metal mood" as an adult. But also some people just got the "metal" on their blood, I don't think my wife will ever stop to listen to metal. She loves it and I'm sure I will listen to her and my daughter singing a Tarja song at some point, it is what it is and people who have the gift of truly enjoying music shouldn't bother with whatever somebody else is listening.
2018-04-26 04:53
I used to not listen to music and hated metal with a passion but then i started watching a rs streamer (thoboying) who always played metal and I fell in love it. The next two years I only listened to metal/punk and then I kinda switched to more chill rock music and got away from metal other than a couple songs for a year, no I listen to alternative rock, Spanish rock, reggaeton, and XXXtentacion.
2018-04-26 05:02
the older xxxtentacion songs sound like they have some metal influences, I like them (I like the new ones as well)
2018-04-26 09:32
Yeah X is the only rapper I fuck with
2018-04-26 17:15
i find it boring to listen only 1 genre so its better to listen to other genre

nah my dad tought me to listen to all different types of music from opera to deathmetal to old school hip hop
2018-04-26 09:35
that is great imo staying open minded and being curious is very important I'll teach my kids the same
2018-04-26 09:39
yeah i think its good to get a broad view of music, because certain types of music just fit certain modes/moods. If you can get the right music in at the right time you can make a difference in peoples/your own life imo :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Sabaton is love, Sabaton is life
2018-04-26 09:42
literally the worst metal has to offer but what ever floats ur boat i guess
2018-04-26 10:38
Let me guess you like the heavy metal when you can litterly only hear people screaming
2018-04-26 11:54
screamo doesnt even exist to me. but i have been to sabaton gig and i have never been so bored in my laif. 3min song with the most generic sound u can imageni -> 5min pointless story time about some ancient war -> same 3min song with different lyrics.
2018-04-26 12:04
If your not intrested in history then sabaton is most likely not for you. Sabaton gives me energy during a workout and gets me hyped before league matches in CS. I'm really intrested in ancient history aswell
