CSGO low CPU + GPU Usage
 |
Germany ropzGOD
I have Ryzen 5 1600 overclocked to stable 3.7 GHZ and when playing CSGO on all low I barely have 30% CPU usage and with 1060 6GB also OC'd to like 2100 MHZ barely 40%. Other games working fine. on inf sometimes 160 fps and then spikes up to 350 and average of 250 is there any way i can get the usage higher so i can get more fps? it seems like i should get way more than i do rn

csgo only uses 40% of the CPU even in ffa... strange

Its a cpu based game hope source 2 would fix it

did you activate Rize Balance in the feed option?

set all configs to maximum... 250+ FPS guaranteed broken engine at it's finest

unfortunately, csgo run faster (not always more stable) on Intel processors. A 4th gen i5/i7 can get more FPS than my r5 1400 :/ Doesn't affect my gameplay, but still not cool

Well a ryzen is better in like editing, thats why i bought it. And i tried in highest settings, nothing. I get like 10-20 fps less

Yeah, that's the reason i've choose ryzen too. Well, you can try -nod3d9ex at launching commands, but i think you won't get much more than average 250fps

i do already ill see if theres a differnece

I'm not an expert but I think really it's a limitation of the Source engine, it doesn't utilize modern hardware as well as some new stuff. Add to that the high tickrate compared to most other shooters today. With that said 160fps is not low at all. If it's stable you'll do perfectly fine even with a 144hz monitor. Don't bitch about 160fps in a game thats mostly played by kids with 5+ year old hardware.

to be fair its inferno where i get as low as 160 but ye im on cache rn and barely above 250 and imo i should get way more with the oc but i guess its the shit engine. hope source 2, if it comes, will change the utilization
2018-06-21 20:20
CSGO uses like 2 cores from your cpu, maybe 4, so having many cores is bad. Better with 4 cores that have higher capacity per core.

well i have 6 and 12 threads obv
2018-06-21 20:20
So CSGO will only use a couple of those cores, and the extra threads are not doing anything for games, so therefore you got like 2-4 cores and 4-8 threads not doing anything while you are playing cs. No wonder the CPU usage is low.

hmmm i hope source 2 will change that because that will just make new hardware useless thank anyway
2018-06-21 20:25
CS is a typical CPU intensive game, and it has always been. More and more games now days are relying more on the GPU than the CPU. So in most cases new hardware is not wasted.

i meant for like csgo but yeah i know that but seems like rn im on mm in cache and my gpu usage is around 35 while cpu is 27.

really? well i get less and its on hdd. you have a cpu where cs apparently uses its cores and cs doesnt use mine at all
2018-06-21 20:27
If the game is on HDD or SSD will not change ingame FPS, as the speed on your disk will only reduce the time spent on loading. When the game has loaded all the necessary data will be put into ram.

maybe its my ram i only have one channel 8 gb. perhaps 16 dual channel would be good
2018-06-21 20:30
As long as you are only having csgo running while playing, this should not be an issue. You can get a long way with 8GB ram, but more would always be good.

that's most likely the problem. I had low gpu usage in bf1 which is also heavily cpu bound like csgo and i found the solution which is to run dual channel. Also ryzen is very bad for cpu bound games , especially csgo
2018-06-22 13:19
thats a big bottleneck then, works much better on dual channel
2018-06-22 13:28
It's just a terribly optimized game. Pretty much as well optimized as emulating a PS2 game. It only uses 2 of the 4 or 8 cores that you have.

the problem there is your CPU, AMD cpus have worse single core performance and CSGO doesn't take advantage of the multiple cores that you have, that's why intel CPU's will get the highest fps on games like CSGO, the top cpu's from this list will get you the best fps in csgo cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
2018-06-21 21:06
csgo is optimized for cpu usage mostly, and for single core performance optimization on intel. Sauce engine wont use more than 4 cores by default, and will use 1st physical core the most (core 0) What you can do is when you are in game, CTRL+ALT+DEL, fgo to details, find csgo.exe, right click , set affinity and uncheck core 0. You will see more usage of other cores and slight performance boost on your ryzen. Also, update bios and chipset drivers (really important), lower timings on your ram as tight as you can (google it, increase ram voltage to 1.35v if needed). also use high performance power mode in windows. I have r5 1400 @ 3.9ghz 1.3v +r9 290 on my side pc, and im getting 260~400 fps with some 330 average, even more on dd2, mirage, overpass).
2018-06-22 13:31
buy a i9 with a 1080 t1 11 gb and btw 160 fps is not that bad go fuck yourself
2018-06-22 13:30
160fps is unplayable
2018-06-22 13:42
I play with 80 fps on lowest settings and I am lem so idk whats the problem about low (160) witch is really good fps btw a human eye can only see under 28 fps so 60 fps is normal

Did you try -threads or mat_queue_mode 2 launch option?
