Useless degree?

Philippines BritishCocaine
What subject do u think that useless? Me : political studies
2018-07-19 15:11
school
2018-07-19 15:13
I don't think any degree is "useless", they're creating knowledgeable people in that field that can come up with new ideas and push that industry forwards in a new direction and innovate. What you're referring to is salary per degree basis, on this basis, engineering and IT degrees are the best, with arts being the least

Well if you can find job with your degree, it's not useless. I think it's more about people than degree

You can find a job without a degree

I'm not saying you can't, I'm just saying that if you can't find job WITH degree, it's probably more your fault
2018-07-19 15:32
+1 Degree is basically a NEEDED requirement to get into a job. If you get a degree into something means you're competent in that field. But look at mechanical people that repair car or bus. Most of them dont have degree but yet theyre good at that field

Well I have seen to many "programmers" and "software engineers" who have a bachelor degree but still don't know shit.
2018-07-19 15:46
Good programmers are born by being interested in that field from the young age and a strong dedication to self study. You won't become a good programmer by studying for 3.5 years at college half-assedly

I wasn't super intersted in programming before uni, and no you won't become a great programmer by just studying, but it can definitely be a good start for many. You don't have to be born with an interest for it however. I know plenty of programmers who whould be considered really good at what the are doing that started really late (well 22+ at least...), I also know ones like you mentioned that basically started when they were young kids. There is also a lot more to workin as a programmer than to be just good at coding, If you for example can't work in a team and are good at collaborating with others you will have a rough time.

my dad is the guy that makes job interviews s for an small IT company and he says some ppl has super good degree's but they are so anti social and can't have proper conversations and have a stick up their ass and it feels like they ain't even human anymore. he rates personality and character over degree's many, many times. like they don't even invite ppl with bachelor degree anymore because its useless. mayb this is exactly what big corporations want mindless idiots that do everything u tell them without questioning it.

This is my opinion Why political degree isnt useful? Everyone could learn that from the news and basically in politic, you need to learn how to communicate and a good PR also enough money to get into it.

2018-07-19 15:43
Learning politics from the news is exactly what politicians wants you to do. Taking time to actually educate yourself on political structure and what every party wants to do is something i think everybody should in order to get a basic understading of politics. Unfortunately way too many people are politically illiterate on both Right, Left and Centre voting against their own self interest. Also Becoming a Politician, Lobbyist, NGO worker, Unions, Spindoctors etc are still workplaces that highly value political studies. And which are also quite well paying jobs. Not useless imo.
2018-12-07 20:32
Other than working your ass off for some boss and paying tax, you are useless as well.

You dont need to study "politics" to be politician. You can have whatever degree and still be decent politician. Its all about lying in fashion!
2018-07-19 16:10
No but most politicians, and mainly legislators, at least have a law degree so they can accurately understand and interpret what laws and law changes they are voting for. Now I don't think governments should be filled with lawyers, some decisions needs the knowledge from engineers and scientists etc. At the local level of politics, a law degree might not be necessary though.

gender studies will get you nowhere. most degrees will get you a boost in employment opportunities, some will get you a great job ($90k / year +) and there are a select few like gender studies which will more than likely just discourage your employee from hiring you because it was so stupid to take in the first place

most degree's are useless if u think back how much time u wasted on them. u could probably work straight after school when ur 15-16 and learn more in that job theory and practical way. mayb medical and science related stuff is needed but also with internet its pretty easy to be self taught . its just society demanding shitty degree. here in france they want u to have a degree plus u need to not be above age 25 with 10 years work experience, good luck mate. just make ur own company and put in ur heart and sweat and blood and u will succeed.
2018-12-07 19:58
Work smart, dont work hard. Those that are working to hard are the dumb ones.
2018-12-07 20:22
either that or work your ass off in something that u passionate for cuz it will not really feel like workin.
2018-12-07 20:41
Still, dont try to work your ass off, you wont be able to enjoy your retirement. My dad did manual work for 55 years and his back, knees, shoulders and feet are all fucked. He always told me work smart and not hard, which is why i took physics at uni
2018-12-07 20:42
anything business or finance. the humanities that others are listing are definitely NOT useless to society as a whole; they just make less money and that's not all that matters
2018-12-07 20:10
pretty sure the unviersity system will collapse sooner or later and like 50% of the majors will be removed. cuz lets be honest wh oneed university to study ancient greek history when u have internet.
2018-12-07 20:15
Exactly, you can just learn about it all on the internet... smh
2018-12-07 20:23
It wouldnt be available to everyone on the internet if nobody studies it to explain what is going on. Sure it's not where you'll be earning a big amount of money, but finding out everything about how we used to be in the past and learn from it is generally a good thing.
2018-12-07 20:26
i think its the opposite if someone is passionate about teaching jedaism in university ppl would study it aswell for sure. why even bother life is awesome and if u study something u like and love just do it if u have chance to.
