I am not Russian and I don't support the Russian government, but it really feels as if we are getting divided by media and politics.
Our nation was oppressed throughout the past centuries, but it was done by the government (whether it be soviet government or imperial), not the people. Of course, some Russians hate Ukrainians, and some Ukrainians hate Russians, but all politics aside, I don't see a clear reason for our rivalry.
I have Russian roots, and all my relatives in Russia and their friends say they're okay with Ukraine. Most of the "wE hAtE uKrAinE!!1!!" comments on RU television are staged for Putin to look good. Other than that, I think a big chunk of Russian population is fine with Ukraine, and all my friends and relatives from Ukraine are fine with Russia. All this tension is just a political play, which has no purpose but to profit.
I do not support Russia's and Ukraine's unification as a country, I want Ukraine to stay a sovereign country, but I find this political tension useless. All the bad things done to each other is corrupt government's fault and "nashi narodi ne dolzhni tak voevat', ne ob9zatel'no ob'edin9ts9, xot9 bi prosto drujit". And we have corruption on both RU and UA sides btw.
