1. go to gym more, even 3 times a week i find is too little to gain a lot of mass, 5 is optimal
2. eat carbohydrates before your meal, and a shitton of protein after, if you way 150 lbs, get 150 grams of protein, carbs mean anaerobic respiration, and that makes muscle grow faster. also get a lot of calories, otherwise, your body will lose muscle

I just recommend when you eat you just eat larger portions because the problem I have is that I always like to eat much more than needed. So what I think you should do is that you try to eat a bit more every time and you will get fat.

If you want to train you need to learn how to cook. Chicken breasts/fish/red meat are your main ingredient. You can add vegetables, beans and some rice/pasta. For breakfasts - eggs, yoghurts. I personally eat bananas a lot.
When I started going to gym I was skinny as hell. 62 -> 73 kgs and going up. Also if you cant hit the gym more, try doing workouts at home(pushups, burpies, pullups and stuff) but dont overtrain, give some rest to your muscles.

Mass has nothing to do with your progress. It has been proven to be a myth that fat helps build muscle. You're probably an ectomorph which means you'll have a harder time gaining size although far from impossible, but gaining weight for ectomorph people like you is harder than having an obese guy lose his weight. Eat larger meals and try filling up with calorie rich food, avoid soft drinks because they're poor on nutrients and fill your stomach up easily. Hit the gym as hard but remember your weight is far more dependant on your eatings and drinkings than on what you do or not in the gym. Do more balanced meals and don't focus only on protein, carbs are important for mass as well. Make sure each piece of steak you eat goes with the right amount of rice, for instance. As hard as it is for some people, unless you're sick, sooner or later you'll start seeing some difference. Just keep in mind that nothing can go wrong once you're doing the right thing at both gym and kitchen, but also don't be impatient because it takes time.
