Ingredients in USA
 |
Finland JustinCredible
Im watching new masterchef US season 9 and i wonder why contestant for example from Iowa say "...but in Iowa we don't get fresh ingredients like this". Challenge was several seafood ingredients, crabs, fish etc. So my question to someone familiar with food in US, how can this be? Not to be better but in Finland, every city or smaller town has a place for fresh food, even fresh Tuna, and Tuna comes far away. How can this be?

Like even if you transported stuff by air directly from a port or fishery it's gonna be a day old by the time it's dressed, prepped and ready for sale.
2018-08-10 20:20
because iowa people can't afford anything other than spray cheese and hard tack

yeah but its easier to transport stuff from Norway to Czechia with the Baltic sea and English channel. plus there is much industry in Czechia compared to Iowa, iowa is a low population state that is known for farming, doesnt have many airports, trains, or highways. so transportation takes longer.

the fish from norway go by trucks - highways if i look at the map of the USA i see highways everywhere you can go from new york to iowa by more or less straight line i guess iowans are not interested in fresh sea fish

likely not. cause Iowa's obviously landlocked so they have to get transported fish which could take hours or days.

"Fresh" fish is considered something different, at least here. It doesn't have to be transported.

1. The population density of Iowa is low, so that means there are less people to sell goods to in any given place. 2. I have no idea where she is from in Iowa, she could live in Smallville population 300 for all I know, of course there is going to be no market for fish there. Not really fresh anyway. 3. Just because one woman says '...but in Iowa we don't get fresh ingredients like this,' doesn't mean it actually isn't possible. It would probably only be in large population points though.
2018-08-10 20:34
ok thank you!
2018-08-10 20:37
19 hours is pretty long. i live in the northeast. usually its a few hours from being caught to being eaten in the fishing towns up the coast. lobsterfrommaine.com/trap-to-table-dana-.. here go watch some shit.

Nobody is going to drive a few fresh fish to iowa to sell it to 1000 people. Iowa farmers are not going to spend the crazy amount of money that would cost.
