*NEW* True Top 20 Players of ALL-TIME
autimatic |
Australia Emertron
This is my new attempt at the top 20, I apologise for my previous attempt, I didn’t realise that two people had already done the same thing as I did. Credits to chukyyy and SUVACO, I’ve linked SUVACO’s thread at the bottom, someone please comment the link to chukyyy’s as I couldn’t find it. This new list uses a similar method to the previous but with more information to remove inconsistencies. It combines HLTV top 20 results and major performances. HLTV top 20 is as follows, first place 30 points, 2nd 25, 3rd 20, 4th 15, 5th 10, 6th 9, 7th 8, 8th 7, 9th 6, 10th 5, and 11-20 get one point. If a player is in the top 20 multiple years they get 1 point for one year, and it doubles every consecutive year, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16. For majors if the player’s team placed 1st they get 12 points, 2nd 8 points, 3rd-4th 5 points, 5th-8th 3 points and the major MVP gets 16 points instead of 12. (this is why happy is in the top 20, not sure if I agree but yeah). 1. GeT_RiGhT 125 points 2. Olofmeister 121 points 3. Flusha 120 points 4. Coldzera 113 points 5. Device 111 points 6. F0rest 105 points 7. Snax 103 points 8. Guardian 98 points 9. JW 97 points 10. Fallen 82 points 11. Pashabiceps 81 points 12. KRiMZ 81 points 13. kennyS 74 points 14. shox 73 points 15. fer 69 points 16. Happy 66 points 17. NBK 66 points 18. Xizt 65 points 19. Dupreeh 65 points 20. Friberg 63 points This is SUVACO’s thread If anyone wants the spreadsheets I can link in the comments, and if someone else has done this before, or something similar please tell me so that I can link it.

Might wanna check your facts Mr. Italy, he's just linking a thread and to spread it around so everyone can take a look at it. Not claiming it his own, he might add a couple notes to it, but as long as he's linking the original thread of the ranking, then it is NOT plagerism.
2018-08-16 03:34
+1 to ZTB for saving me from scary italian man

Didn't pay much attention since I took a look at the way he determines that Taking my words back, good bloke But still it's just one's opinion, not the real ranking the original poster claimed

tbh not bad considering tournament titles, but in real ranking kennyS and shox should be higher.
2018-08-16 02:26
Yeah I agree, especially Kenny, I don't think his dominance was reflected in HLTV top 20's as much as others.
2018-08-16 02:29
Kenny should be i agree but shox not really
2018-08-16 02:38
For anyone wondering, NiKo was ranked 26, with 36 points and S1mple was 24th with 50 points
2018-08-16 02:27
niko > simple in achievements but simple >>>>>>> niko in skill

Sooo bad lol flusha over cold is a bad joke
2018-08-16 02:39
Cold wasnt really in the scene pre-2015, he’s only behind flusha by 7 points. In terms of consistency and length of dominance I’d still say flusha. Cold still a god tho.
2018-08-16 02:43
Brazil LukeCS
Since cold came into the international scene he never dropped out of the top, 2018 is gonna be his first year not being top 1 + he's playing against guys who understand more of CS than flusha's opposition in 2013-15... So cold is without a shadow of doubt better than flusha, so is device
2018-08-16 02:46
Hol up? Cold wasn't top 1 in 2013, 2014, 2015 Especially 2015 as cold even played tier1 tournaments in 2015

he will not be in top 10 this year lul.he won't make it into top 20 next year. flusha made top 20 4 times.............and hence he is more consistent for a long time.

Brazil LukeCS
+ following that, olofmeister should NEVER be #2, ffs
2018-08-16 02:55
Did you forget olof on LGB? He and KRiMZ were one of the strongest duo’s before they joined fnatic together
2018-08-16 03:01
Brazil LukeCS
olof #12 in 2014, #1 in 2015 (props to him, it was the most competitive year in CS), dropped to #8 in 2016, then #19 in 2017... C'mon, is that worth #2 all time? Really? What about device 3 years in a row in the top 5 (going for the 4th) and cold 2 time best in the world?
2018-08-16 03:12
Remember this list includes majors, as well, top 8’s, wins, runner up etc.

It proves that its not the best method to evaluate a player's performance
2018-08-16 03:58
Well obviously, I dont think there will be a list that everyone agrees with. For example, There’s people who insist that a player who’s been notable for half of a game’s existence, is a more consistent and better overall than a player who’s been at the top the whole time.
2018-08-16 04:09
Europe p1peb0mb
cold is droping to way below top 10 lul.
2018-08-20 07:25
in consistency - cold because he started from 2015 and still top 4 in length of dominance obviously flusha i think we can all agree that olof >>>>>>>> all
2018-08-16 03:01
Technically length of dominance goes to kennyS or Guardian (only 2 players in all years of csgo hltv top 20) but i think flusha/jw and co. have dominance and impact on scene above all.
2018-08-16 03:28
Could not agree more
2018-08-19 19:18
Yeah i just feel that because cold was ranked 1, 2 years in a row people forget that other players have been top performers since the game came out

This is actually a fairly balanced list, although calling it top 20 of all time will piss 1.6 fans off, specify at the top it is CS:GO perhaps?
2018-08-16 02:46
No you’re right, I did mean to put CSGO in the title, my last thread had it. WHOOPS

2018-08-16 02:52
started watching csgo in 2017 am i right?
2018-08-16 02:54
"OF ALL TIME" gives a shit about 1.6/source, u also give too many importance to majors imo, i mean, fallens value is much more than hltv ranks and 2 majors, its the same for ppl like gtr or jw, they made something much better than just winning a valve sponsored tournament or being in hltv ranks, E.G.: nip had their 87 winstreak(and 4 silver medals in majors), fnatic and sk players had an era, vp deserve some credits here too, and theres also players like dosia missing here, its a good attempt, but even if its only a csgo rank, i think ur rank isnt complete enough. nice try but needs improvement.
2018-08-16 02:52
Yeah I intended to change it up, add more tournaments, refine points system, guess this is draft #2! Thanks for the feedback

2018-08-16 03:36
Happy 66 points, NiKo not even top20 xD Even though my favorite player is Top1 it's probably not the best method to rate Individual players by their achievements
2018-08-16 03:37
Oh and s1mple missing also xD
2018-08-16 03:38
How else do you rank them? Skill is impossible because it’s all subjective, kd is innacurate because then XANTARES would be #1 of all time. Imo hltv rankings and tournaments are the best way, ill be adding other tournaments later, but how would you do it?
2018-08-16 03:42
Maybe the best thing would be a mix of Player ratings and achievements, and you would have to classify the ratings a player gets against Tier1/2/3, with the help of a multiplicator or something. It's pretty hard but your system is definetly a step in the right direction and could be used partly.
2018-08-16 03:46
Yeah i agree, it’s something I’d like to do but it would just take so long, I’ll start by adding in other tournaments, that way I can give more recognition to players like NiKo and S1mple. The main difficulty of mixing achievements and stats is that how do you weigh them up? It would involve a lot of opinion which is what i wanted to avoid with this list
2018-08-16 04:04
50/50 should be fine. A great player doesn't have to be topfragger, he can lead his team to win in other ways, IGL, support, bait, etc. But you should also have those 50% Individual performance, stats, adr, rating and the mvps
2018-08-16 04:07
I agree there should be a 50/50 contribution, what i meant was how do you convert that to data? It would be heavily based on how one person sees it. :/
2018-08-16 04:11
Hmm you're right about that... Don't really know an answer here
2018-08-16 04:12
Not all of life’s questions are meant to answered friend
2018-08-16 07:00
Check joviks rating, he explains the criteria of picking and it's just as personal
2018-08-16 04:14
Do you have a link, i cant find it xd
2018-08-16 04:18
Can't figure out a way to provide on the phone.. Just search TOP 25 best players, something like that
2018-08-16 04:19
Found the post, his criteria are good and i agree with them. I’m trying to remove as much opinion as possible though, so i dont know how i could transfer those into data to use in my spreadsheet.
2018-08-16 04:27
HLTV ranking ain't the perfect one either, each one has flaws but I lean towards the crystal clear criteria and knowledge attached list like the one you've just seen We're talking bout players, not the teams so
2018-08-16 04:29
Yeah imo its almost an impossible task, his criteria are great, but even with his justification i feel he poorly ranked some players, s1mple for example has greater individual skill, higher peak, more consistency recently, makes better plays, maybe not better decision making, and definetely better clutch potential than flusha, he put flusha at one and S1mple at 7
2018-08-16 06:59
I guess it's about longevity, he should have mentioned, it goes in pair with consistency and time is on flusha's side, he's been around ever since it began and always was good, s1mple is currently better but his fuse might get blown in recent years and it will turn out he was a 'couple of years wonder' while flusha didn't stop at all... I think s1mple'd be higher in the next years list
2018-08-16 07:04
flusha didn't and won't stop in my opinion, he's too consistent, doesn't play for himself, I agree he's an incredible player and I would say he's a better player in terms of consistency and overall greatness than s1mple, I was just pointing out holes in joviks method
2018-08-16 07:09
It's about missing parts in explaination rather than determination issue I talked to him via Pm and we found peace of mind. His rating is fine
2018-08-16 07:20
Ah alright i get what you mean, did he explain why gtr was so low then? I understood everything but that
2018-08-16 07:47
His peak was at the lowest peak of the game Since they were opposed by equal to them opposition and therefore even stronger, he gave up and disappeared from radars Pretty much s1mple case if s1mple will soon stop being so good
2018-08-16 08:43
Thats true actually, never thought about it that way 200iq
2018-08-16 12:45
Telling you, his ratings are fine
2018-08-16 13:52
Canada Surzz
shox and kennys are too low. flusha shouldn't be at #3.
2018-08-16 07:53
Your resoning? I agree it’s weird seeing the two so low, in an opinion list i’d put them both top 10 but why do you feel that way?
2018-08-16 07:56
And i would disagree with you on flusha, apart from 2015 flusha has always been the star on fnatic, just ‘15 when olof became god amongst men
2018-08-16 07:58
Olof was better in 2017 for the few months the lineup was together for as well
2018-08-22 07:33
was this just before he left or just after godsent/fnatic switch up? I can't remember
2018-08-22 10:32
After the dennis fnatic lineup came back together olof and jw were by far the best on the team if my memory serves me right
2018-08-22 11:24
Ahh alright! Thanks for the info :)
2018-08-22 23:56
The most accurate and logical list tbh. Great work!
2018-08-16 17:29
Thanks! My main objective was to find a list the didn't involve opinion, just stats, even if people disagree with it I did what I was aiming to do XD

If you are saying "OF ALL TIME" then you MUST include markeloff, SpawN, RobbaN and walle.
2018-08-16 17:51
did you read #23, this is CSGO, I just didn't put it in the title. And yes of course, NEO would also be on it and f0rest would have been much higher.

from my calculations, pasha has 94 points lul
2018-08-17 02:27
How did you calculate that? Did you use the same method as me?
2018-08-17 02:52
Poland DoMo2115
yes ;D
2018-08-17 02:54
United Kingdom galaxzy
i like the way you calculated but you seem to base it off team performance and not actually the player skill, because friberg is very far from the top 20 in terms of skill, but yes, these are the most successful players of all time you could say.
2018-08-17 02:43
Top 20 performance also goes into it, I think team performance is important because obviously individual players contribute to team performance. And I think friberg does deserve the spot, he's a major mvp, and 2x top 20 player. That's my opinion though
2018-08-17 02:51
United Kingdom galaxzy
its hard to say because friberg, was a good entry fragger, but at the same time he was real bad at times just i mean look: also IMO if GTR was given the MVP for the major there would be no question that he would be the greatest CSGO player of all time. also i think this concept of player helping a teams performance is kinda 50/50 in this sense, because s1mple has one of the highest peaks in CSGO but Na'Vi havent won anything significant in his tenure despite this: but i do like the ranking of players based of hltv top 20 combined with major performances but obviously, hltv top 20 may have its flaws but then all rankings do, no matter how much fact you use, but gj i love to see stuff calculated like this especially on site like hltv where we have so many lovely stats provided to us.
2018-08-17 03:04
Yeah friberg has certainly had his ups and downs, whether his contribution to the nip era earns him a spot in top 20 is almost impossible to answer. I’m trying to further refine the list, adding more events, other statistics, hopefully i can eventually come to a well refined list xd
2018-08-17 04:52
no s1mple ResidentSleeper Been a beastly player even on teams where they didn't get good enough results to get him high in the HLTV Top 20 (Liquid 2016, Na'Vi 2017 etc)
2018-08-17 07:26
Yeah i know! S1mple and NiKo didnt get much recognition on this list but in my new refined one they will, I’m factoring in other things to make a more accurate list
2018-08-17 15:54
Fair enough. Good to see you're actually working on improving it
2018-08-18 02:47
Yeah i want to get it as accurate as possible, without having much opinion in it so if people disagree its not on me, its all in spreadsheets so if i need to change up points its really easy!

2018-08-18 01:36
who the fuck are all these nonames
2018-08-17 15:55
2018-08-18 02:51
Pasha was a fore to be reckoned with in csgo’s early days, when he was rifle and secondary awp, also one of the first to do a semi-aggressive awping style
2018-08-18 02:56
And kenny wasnt??
2018-08-18 03:19
kenny came after, yes kenny was insane, he's a godlike player, still is. But pasha and vp as a whole were more meta-influencing, kennyS was a carry, star player, pasha was a god, as well as making impact plays that were selfless so that the team could work around them
2018-08-18 04:23
So you seriously think that pasha>kennys overall in the history of csgo?
2018-08-18 04:49
didn't say i did, I'm just justifying his placement on the list, no need to get so worked up my friend
2018-08-18 06:14
Well my friend that placement is retarded

i remember the happy bit very clearly, if it was you that made the original post it must have been a repost then:(
2018-08-18 10:19
I did make the post 2 days ago? maybe you saw this thread?
2018-08-18 10:22
this is surprisingly good. The only real outliers are that kennys should be way higher, at least top 10, and there is no s1mple or niko
2018-08-18 04:53
yeah because of my system s1mple and NiKo dont get recognition because they became dominant later in the game and havnt had much major final performance. I'm trying to develop a better way to give them more recognition

This is a great and balanced list, some players like kennyS aren't as high as they should be imo but great list. Glad this was made for the entirety of CS instead of just the past year or two which would be drastically different, it really is good to see.
2018-08-18 06:20
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Although it is just csgo, I just forgot to put it in the title XD

For me this ranking is very accurate. I agree with all except for Xizt which personally I would place beyond top 20 and I would maybw add S1mple

Agreed, s1mple and NiKo :/

Suvaco list better
2018-08-18 23:34
Thanks for your input
2018-08-19 05:07
The way you, SUVACO, Chuckyyyy and many others make rankings is refreshing. Maybe you should also take in to consideration the MVP’s a player got. Rewarding them with 8 points would be welcome. If you want to go very extreme could even reward every lan rating with points (1.10-1.19: 1 point, 1.20-1.29: 3 points, 1.30-1.39: 6 points,...). I would give the top 11-20 players in the HLTV Rankins also points. Just my ideas tho.

+1 for the EVPs
2018-08-19 19:02
I actually thought about EVP's but we can't find EVP's for the earlier years of CS:GO, can we?
2018-08-19 19:12
I included major mvp's, did you mean MVP's from other tournaments? I was thinking about doing it but was unsure as to whether to include other tournament MVP's without including the tournament placings as a whole. Thanks for your comment :)
2018-08-20 03:29
Yes I meant the just regular tournament MVP’s
2018-08-20 07:09
alright sweet, yeah I'm trying to add everything I can into the list to make it accurate, I'm just wondering if I put too many things it'll do the opposite of what I intended

2018-08-20 07:52
Also the top 11-20 players did get points, but it was just 1, I did this because past 10 the line gets really blurry, I offset this by awarding points for consecutive years in the top 20
2018-08-20 03:30
2018-08-20 07:09
in a few years s1mple will be very high up this list hes the most skilled player ive ever seen

Probablt end of this year even, the guy’s ridiculous!
2018-08-20 02:20
yeh i though he was going to be the best player in the world since 2016
2018-08-20 02:49
2016-2017 was debatable, there were so many players who could be considered the best, s1mple, cold, device, fer NiKo, snax (2016), the list goes on. In 2018 though i think it's undeniable s1mple is the most dominant player in the world.
2018-08-20 03:23
no i dont mean he was the best in 2016 i just mean that from watching him play he had the highest potential imo
2018-08-20 03:24
Oh right yeah, his style is so refined and powerful, he's truly a fun player to watch
2018-08-20 03:26
yea he definitely of the best players to watch but i want fallen to get back to form because he was amazing to watch in both 2016 and 2017

2018-08-20 06:08
friberg doesn't make the list in my new format, I'm still tweaking it so I havn't posted, I agree though, friberg not really deserving of top 20 in csgo
2018-08-20 07:10
Well, i don't really understand how kennyS and shox can be so low in the list. They are both in the top 6-7 of all time imo.
2018-08-20 06:25
Well they're low because of a combination of major performance; both of them have won a major but so have everyone but guardian on this list, and although they've consistently made the hltv top 20, neither of them have ranked highly on them consistently, whereas all the players above them do, or they have contributed to greater major performances. They both rank higher on my new list so hopefully you agree with that more :)

Why are majors the only tournaments factored though yes they're considered the biggest but nowadays we have multiple tournaments a year with just as high level competition and the MVPs of those elite level tournaments should be noted and rewarded as well as the winners.
2018-08-20 08:26
Answer is very simple, takes a lot of time and effort, there’s like 20+ tier 1/2 tournaments every year, including all of them would take weeks of work, this list took me about 4 days worth collecting all the info and tweaking, it’s something i eventually intend on doing, but this is just the second draft
2018-08-20 09:04
United States Jammin800k
I understand that but their major success is essentially counted twice because it affects ranking as well as the major points. Really emphasizes fnatic and NiP players while the French players struggle from this despite also having dominant periods as well as players like s1mple and Niko who were on weaker teams for large portion of their career.
2018-08-20 19:59
their ther tournament success is also factored into their top 20 ranking as well, I’ll definitely add in other tournaments eventually

I strongly believe it will I have a rough feel of my top 20 and honestly it's not far of from this. Like I said I do think shox and Kenny are slighted a bit due to major success but other than that not too many qualms

problem with you rankings is that you are giving too much points for top 3. top 1 have twice the points of top 4. make it like top 1 has twice the points of top 10 and others in between.

There’s always room for improvement, ill evetually tweak it to something that myself and others are happy with, changing points allocation is one of those ways! Thanks for your comment friend

Good list. Top 5 is pretty arguable, tho. 1. GeT_RiGhT 125 points 2. Olofmeister 121 points 3. Flusha 120 points 4. Coldzera 113 points 5. Device 111 points I could say: - GTR > Cold > Device > Olof > Flusha - GTR > Cold > Olof > Flusha > Device - GTR > Cold > Flusha > Device > Olof - Cold > GTR > Device > Olof > Flusha - Cold > GTR > Olof > Flusha > Device - Cold > GTR > Flusha > Device > Olof - GTR = Cold > Device > Olof > Flusha - GTR = Cold > Olof > Flusha > Device - GTR = Cold > Flusha > Device > Olof Pick one and any of them can be justified
2018-08-20 07:44
Exactly! That’s the biggest problem with creating a top 20 list, there’s always differing opinions and justifications as to why one player is better than the other, my main goal isnt to create a perfect list, only one that is hard to disagree with, and most people can agree with the placements

So in other words Device will probably be nr. 1 all time player of CS:GO by the end of the year.. Interesting!
2018-08-20 13:20
Europe p1peb0mb
yep he will be in whatever rankings anyone make based on hltv rankings from 2013-18. 4 top 5s > 2 top 1s. another candidate is guardian, who will make his 6th top 20. if kennyS don't make it, guardian will be the only player in csgo who made all top 20s.
2018-08-20 14:29
I think kennyS will make it, low but he'll make it, if G2 make a run at the major then he'll 100% make the top 20. As i said in #245, Guardian would have to outrank Device in top 20 and Faze would have to outplace Astralis in the major for him to overtake device on the list.
2018-08-21 02:40
Europe p1peb0mb
top 20 are not based on team performnce.its based on ratings and mvp/evp. kennyS just have the rating atm to reach top 20. but he have only 1 big event evp. if others get more big event evps and have have same rating as kennyS,they will make it over kennyS. Majors are not a factor. Other big events have same impact as major. If kennyS reach multiple semi-finals on big events like major or iem chicago or epicenter or any other similar events and have rating above like 1.20 or in some cases 1.15, he will get evp. Even if G2 wins major, but kennyS has low rating,he won't get evp.
2018-08-21 09:00
Oh I didn't realise, I wasn't sure what went into the rankings, I just assumed it had a bit to do with team performance, as well as individual performance. Do you think kennyS is in with much of a chance for this year's top 20? I mean this year isn't really that packed in terms of top 5, let alone top 20. s1mple is obviously going to be #1, device, magisk, niko and guardian maybe in the top 5, it's just not very competitive. Maybe kenny comes out with a 15-20th spot? his average rating this year is 1.14
2018-08-21 09:08
Europe p1peb0mb
he has chance. he needs to have 1 or 2 evps evps more and have to keep current rating to make it. atm s1mple is 1. niko/device is 2 and 3. magisk 4 and electronic 5. guardian is around top 8-10.kennyS is around top 16-18. only s1mple's spot on top 1 is confirmed. every other can change based on performance on the next 4 months,
2018-08-21 09:17
yeah that's what i mean by not very competitive, I didn't realise guardian would be so low!
2018-08-21 09:25
Europe p1peb0mb
guardian has low rating than cold but he will be placed well above cold tis year becasue of multiple big event evps and mvp compared to cold. cold is not in top 10 this year becasue of low amount of mvp/evps compared to others who has similar ratings as him.
2018-08-21 09:33
right I get it, so basically you could predict, with accuracy, what the top 20 would be? Is rating and mvp/evp all that goes into it?
2018-08-21 09:42
Europe p1peb0mb
s1mple device niko magisk electronic dupreeh naf krimz guardian gla1ve coldzera autimatic sunny nahte oskar flamie ropz rain kennyS elige here players with most risk to go out are nahte and kennyS. They played only few events and have only 1 evp. Players like olof,xyp9x are in better teams and hence have high chance to get more evps and ratings.. Players like tarik and flusha already have major and katowice mvp and 1 evp,but they have to improve their rating.
2018-08-21 10:14
I doubt flusha will be able to make it, his rating has been really bad, he's below 1 now i believe, so is tarik i think, or it's 1. I'd love to see another na player on it.
2018-08-21 10:22
Europe p1peb0mb
he still has 1.06 rating dude and kato mvp and wesg evp.all he need to do is to increase his rating to 1.10 position. same with tarik. remeber snax made it to top 20 last year after playing well on first 3 months then going down. thats the case with flusha and tarik now.
2018-08-21 10:27
Yeah i was really confused how snax made it last year, even though he killed it early year, vp did nothing for like 9-10 months of the year
2018-08-21 12:47
If device makes in into the top 5 and is above the rest of the people above him on my list he will most likely be no. 1. I think it's unlikely that cold places top 5, he'll be top 20 though, as for gtr and olof, probably won't even make the top 20, olof because of inactivity and gtr because of lack of any notable performance for the last 2-3 years. Flusha will most likely make it in the bottom 5, because of fnatic winning a couple of events this year. The only person who could give device a run for his money is guardian, and that would only be if Faze out-perform Astralis at the next major.
2018-08-21 01:48
nice thread but I'm surprised s1mple aint in it (not that he should be) and its good he aint XD..gtr tho deserves no.1
2018-08-21 09:14
s1mple isn't on it due to a lack of achievements in majors as well as low to no placings on top 20's, that'll change this year though, with what I'm adding into consideration for the list, and if navi go hard at this major then s1mple will jump to the top 10

Brazil Raphzzz
i think for the hltv ranking points, you should do a average, like dividing the points they got with the amount of top 20 ranking they were in, so people like niko and cold would get a much more deserved amount of points. if you couldn't understand pls apologize me, my english isn't good when trying to explain complexity stuff.
2018-08-22 07:50
Nah I understood fully man good job! And yeah it's a good idea and believe it or not i considered the idea, the only problem with it is that it eliminates the period of relevancy. The reason I did it as I did was because it was meant to include the length of a players dominance as well as how dominant they were in a given year. Let me know if that makes sense, I'll try and explain it different if my words were to complex <3
