play quake live
2018-08-17 00:29
its like telling people new to counter-strike to play 1.6/source when csgo is out..

Poland MAGA2020
even csgo wasn't as bad as quake champions when it first came out, no hope for this trash game
2018-08-17 00:31
yeah.. i heard it was trash when it released have u tried it recently? im no expert in quake but the game is fun and balanced, no lag good ping
2018-08-17 00:33
"no lag", are we even playing the same game? The engine is complete dogshit, they should've released it on idTech 6 and then maybe this game would've had a tiny chance of surviving after Bethesda inevitably run out of money to pump into it.
2018-08-17 01:43
when was the last time you played it?
2018-08-17 01:57
2 days ago. The game has improved in many ways since its initial closed beta release, but the engine performance is not one of those ways.
2018-08-17 01:58
idk man, i get high fps (110-130) and dont seem to notice any server lag either
2018-08-17 01:59
I get around 180fps, but the engine isn't smooth. It stutters horribly and I get rubberbanding to certain servers (the whole thing is hosted on cloud storage, so no wonder the quality is atrocious). It sucks because I do like the core gameplay, but when you compare it to a game like Quake Live for example it is hard not to notice how much worse even something basic like moving your mouse feels.
2018-08-17 02:02
Ireland lander1337
yeah no, Im not noticing any of those things either.
2018-08-17 14:19
I think this is something only old quake player realize though. I've never been a quake player (except for trying them) and I have like 50-100 hours of quake champions now and I don't really notice any of this
2018-08-17 14:20

Well you said it, its something you probably only notice if you played q3, ql etc. Just like 1.6 players compares go to it original state. But i can confirm what the finish guy is saying, the smoothness and hitreg is horrible if you compare it to ql for example.
2018-08-17 15:13
This. People can debate as much as they want as to whether the gameplay is "real Quake" or not, but the real issue here is the engine's subpar performance and sadly the devs don't even seem to be addressing it. If they released QC under the idTech6 engine, the game's potential would've been huge..

True that! I remember quake from being this ultimate fps game, that if you want to test your skills in every aspect, map knowledge, aim, movement, weapon usage, you had to play quake, and for the same reason as counter strike, because both those games had one thing in comon they offer even playfields for all players, new and old. You never had an advantage via hp, damage etc, it all just came down to how good you could utilize those mechanics that i mentioned, thats why i fell in love with the game atleast. Its a shame that QC cant follow that tradition.
2018-08-17 18:05
I think they've tweaked it - they've given you new mechanics to use in order to 'control' the game in the way that you want, but the problem is that a lot of them are not based on skill whatsoever (press a key to turn invisible l0l). I still think the core quake gameplay exists in QC, it's just been watered down to the point where high skill simply doesn't matter as much as it once did. I think that's a big reason why so many professionals in the QC scene either found no real success in Quake Live or were basically unheard of before QC came out (who tf was raisy?). Even though I have lost interest in the game beyond playing pubs for daily challenges sometimes, I still enjoy watching tox stream whenever he does so. I don't think the game has lost all hope yet, but with such an impotent dev team it sure looks like it's heading that way.
2018-08-17 22:50
I'm not doubting that at all
2018-08-17 17:17
Do you not even notice the jitter compared to GO or especially 1.6, for example? (i remember that you're kinda oldschool so i'm assuming you played 1.6, sorry if i'm wrong) Quake Live set an impossibly high standard in terms of smoothness, hitreg and low input lag - and in my opinion, it is the most well-optimized FPS that is still played today. I wasn't expecting Bethesda to hit the jackpot when it came to nailing the engine mechanics with QC, but they didn't have to outsource the development to a bunch of incoherent Russian programmers who, to compensate for poor hitreg issues, coded an inbuilt hack for the lightning gun into the game (yeah, seriously...) edit: That lg feature was eventually patched, and id tried to pass it off as an 'unintentional bug' despite the fact that Saber (the russian developers) came out and said it was done intentionally to compensate for the lack of backwards reconciliation with the hitreg. But it doesn't change the fact that this was present in the game for almost a year, and people were using it during the $1M quakecon tournament.
2018-08-17 16:06
Of course I do. Because I played thousands of hours of 1.6 before CSGO. GO felt like controlling a tank compared to the movement in 1.6 for example. But I have barely played older quakes so I didn't feel much difference there because of that :)
2018-08-17 17:16
Lol, controlling a tank is a perfect analogy :D that's fair enough anyways. I don't hate QC at all, but I simply am disappointed in the lack of attention the devs have given it compared to previous releases. I hope it will get better in time.
2018-08-17 22:45
Yeah, I hope so too. Would be nice to see the quake scene survive as it's literally the oldest real esport still alive. CSGO did become better so who knows :) Or maybe we just got used to it's shittiness, idk tbh
2018-08-17 23:21
I think it's improved in some aspects and deteriorated in others - I guess QC is still in beta technically, and CS:GO has come a long, loooong way since its beta was released. As long as id don't make the same mistakes they made with Quake Live (that game was considered by its community to have basically been mismanaged into the ground) I think they'll do okay.
2018-08-17 23:41
champion has ranking system (i care) skins for guns (i dont give a fuck) and most importantly more players
2018-08-17 00:34
cs go was shit in 2012
2018-08-17 00:42
Poland MAGA2020
true, and qc is even shittier
2018-08-17 02:30
Not true, actually...hit reg was way worse in CS GO...and kept being terrible until the hitbox update a few years ago? Can't remember exactly. And the game was fully released at the time...QC is still in EA, mind you. The most frustrating things about QC are: the slow development, and the fact that the abilities seem lazy in design... But other than that, it's a solid FPS and the devs really listen to feedback.
2018-08-17 13:32
Sweden PPH
But when csgo fix their hitreg, QC still has horrible hitreg and the game feels clumsy in movement and desgin.
2018-08-17 15:17
Did you actually play the game recently?
2018-08-17 16:00
Sweden PPH
The most recent time i played QC was around 3 weeks ago
2018-08-17 17:45
Then what are you talking about? Movement is great... Hit reg could be better yes...but they are constantly improving it. Don't compare a finished, 6 yo game with an EA one.
2018-08-18 13:25
Sweden PPH
qc movement isnt nearly as smooth as ql
2018-08-18 19:16
Mostly due to performance issues...not because of anything else. And QL only has normal strafe jumping, QC tries to include different types of movement. And again, you're comparing a very old game with a new one that's not even officially out.
2018-08-18 20:01
no chance my friend

2018-08-17 00:59
play the original quake games. champions is an embarrassment.
2018-08-17 00:50
people still say 1.6>go (we both know they are dumb) i dunno about quake but i feel like you are trapped in nostalgia i never played old quake games doe.. but champion is fast paced and skill based, super fun for me
2018-08-17 01:05
Poland MAGA2020
This is Quake: Quake Champions is like a bad joke in comparison. It doesn't feel smooth, looks like a clusterfuck, the guns aren't as snappy and it always feels like you're playing on 150 latency. Not to mention that Quake is probably the last game you'd want to play with a hero/class based system, they could have done a great job at reintroducing that 1v1 duel thing to people, but instead they went with what's popular and created another generic class-based game although that concept has gotten completely stale already. Nothing to do with nostalgia or elitism, the game just plain sucks.
2018-08-17 02:40
nostalgia it is you expect the game to be the same old shit its a new game, play it with open mind u comparing 1.6 to go..
2018-08-17 14:15
Poland MAGA2020
Why would you NOT compare these games? If you want something new, you might just play a new game altogether instead of some dumbed down reboot of an already existing game.
2018-08-17 15:07
Im sorry but THIS IS QUAKE This is DDK casting. xD
