Why native is better
 |
France TheFaren
Here is why native 16:9 resolutions are better than 4:3 resolution (black bars and stretched). First, Misconceptions about stretched: No, it is not easier to hit a target when he is stretched, and although that might not seem to make much sense at first, here is why; on a 4:3 resolution the head is made of let's say (this is just an example) 300 pixels. Whether the screen is stretched or not, since it will always be the same ratio, the head will always be as easy to hit. The difficulty to click on one of those 300 pixels does not change. I recommend people read Lurpis's article on resolutions to know more about this subject in particular. 16:9 Advantages: More FOV How the game is designed (menu; optimization) Better quality (1920:1080 > 1440:1080) Disadvantages: Lower FPS 4:3 Advantages: More FPS That's it If you have a garbage PC sure use 4:3, but a lot of people use 4:3 hoping it gives some sort of competitive edge, when really the only competitive edge is with 16:9. 16:9 is the way to go.

TL:DR 4:3 has 0 advantage except FPS, no reason to use it on good PC
2018-08-21 06:44
i play 4:3 so my awp scope looks bigger, and i peak stuff better wtih a smaller fov, who says that lower fov is all bad.

Yeah the only reason I use 4:3 is because of awp. Awping is so weird on 16:9
2018-08-21 09:24
do you mean the scope lines are thicker or overall the scope looks bigger? because you can make the lines thicker on higher resolutions.
2018-08-21 19:06
it takes more of the screen up. i make the lines thicker too though, but that has nothing to do with res.
2018-08-22 04:10
the fov is identical tho.

+1 that actually works, I did that when i was trying to lower my sens, I used to be a really high sens player, 800dpi, 12 sens in-game (please don't omegalul it was 2014 when i was baby boy). When i came back from break I lowered it to 6, then gradually lowered it from there, I'm now a 800dpi, 0.85 sens

It's because not everyone is a newfag like you. Most pros are USED to 4:3 because that's the resolution that they played with on 1.6 it's not easy as "just go to a vacation and after u come do the switch" because we are used to it. Grow a pair and stop looking for advantages even in resolution.

"ROFL you say 1 year is nothing yet you have an account only 1 year older." 1 Year with 1024x768 doesn't mean anything, pros have been using that resolution for god knows how long. You obviously haven't, because if you had played 1.6/Source then you would've known that 4:3 is not easy to leave.

ROFL one argument for why 4:3 >16:9
2018-08-21 08:29
Don't wanna be an ass but you said "aren't pros" but then said "jasonR always used 1080P on his pro days" Idk why you guys can't just agree to disagree, both have benefits. 4:3 stretched does make models easier to hit, they're the same pixels but take up more space on the monitor. 16:9 give you more vision, clearer picture, more precise models. Pros use what they are used to, pretty sure Guardian uses 4:3 black bars 800x600 lel, and he's one of the best players in the history of csgo. Just chill out and play the game and stop yelling at each other
2018-08-22 06:19
But the funny thing is that some people will use 4:3 just because pro's use it
2018-08-21 08:33
Depends on the reasoning. If they do it because they believe pro's use the best settings to squeeze out the last bits of performance to get an edge over their opponents i can get behind that honestly. If they do it because they think that they will be as good as the pro with it then its just stupid
2018-08-21 09:15
I think most of them fall into the second group. I just play native, 1440, have maybe 10k hours or more in all cs versions, but just play for fun after work
2018-08-21 09:26
Ask most of the pros..? I played 4:3 stretched for around 4 years simply because it felt better than 16:9 and I preferred how the maps looked stretched. Since then I've moved to 16:10 stretched, but might aswell go back to 4:3 at some point.

Yeah I got a good deal on mine so I'm happy. It's a samsung VA panel (Q73 24'') with better colour gamut than IPS monitors I've owned. Also has freesync which is a bonus as I have RX480 and three years of warranty so I doubt I'll ever need to worry about it dying on me. Only downside is that it was ex-demo (the retailer displayed it in it's store) but it's in good condition and comes with three years warranty so I don't need to worry about the fact that they had it on display :P I got it for $210AUD (134EURO,154USD)

And the FPS argument doesn’t make sense either because you can just go down a res at the same ratio (ie 1920x1080 to 1600x900) and get extra FPS that way. 16:9 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 4:3

I use 4:3 mainly because I used it for a long time, and switching to 16:9 would be hard, because it would mess up your muscle memory. Now you have to move the mouse more to reach the side of your screen. Plus the higher FPS

The switch is worth it tbh, it takes like 1 hour of DM to get used to it by 75%, after a week or two you can't use 4:3 anymore and muscle memory just adapts, not that much different in the end in terms of muscles.
2018-08-21 08:43
I'm fine with the only advantage - more fps. Also I still use scaleform so it still looks ok, tbh scaleform looks better in 4:3 than native, probably because it was made for the old 4:3 monitors? Idk

I've played CS since 2003 and I can switch between 4:3 and 16:9 fairly easily, doesn't take long to get used to it after switching.
2018-08-21 08:48
Bro i feel much smoother with 1024x768 stretched and i feel good with it, people always say 16.9 is better but it's theorically, not prooven. I haven't seen any player Rocking the scene anyways it's personal choice, u like it or not. Imo 16.9 is easier in a certain way than 4.3 cause movements are much slower but im just used to 4.3 (1024x768 str) and nothing feels any better

It's the most retarded logic ice ever heard, 4:3 players are at the top? But so are 16:9, you talk as if 4:3 made you better than a 16:9 player yet there are tons of players who are God like and use 16:9. If you think that res = skill than what more is there to say
2018-08-22 11:08
No i don't i said it's easier to get godlike at 4.3 And u can't give better names than S1mple Niko Coldzera Fallen Device Guardian Xantares W0xic Flusha Forest GTR And etc. Even the best upcoming prodigies are playing 4.3 so u can't tell me. It's 1.6 thing I do not say 4.3 has a boost on you but it's advantage on controls u have compared to 16.9 is better and that's it.

usinf 1080p 16:9 since CSGO beta LOL yes, it is the best resol, and the game is meant for 16:9 . its just some cs1.6 fags with pentium 2 and gt520 gpu got used to 800x600. and they just cant get out of it. i tried 4:3 some resol in it, looks 1 pixel for each area of body . 16:9 is so good , only problem is awp flicks , but u can do it, if u practice a lot

I used to play with 16:9 for about 1.5 year, then tryed 4:3 and it was so much better for me. I like how it looks and feels, just a personal preference. More FOV - Yes, but it doesn't make such a big difference How the game is designed (menu; optimization) - I don't see any problem with that Better quality (1920:1080 > 1440:1080) - I like how lower quality looks

4:3 stretched - displays models horizontally stretched, even if they consist of the same amount of pixels, the distance on your monitor is greater. So it's more easy to spot small things. Especially for old people like me, with shitty monitors (with shitty contrast). :) 4:3 bb - helps you stay more focused on the center of the screen. Some people also are just used to it from 1.6 days.

23" should be OK. Too big, can be problematic as well, as you have to scan bigger distances. It's more the contrast that annoys me. But I'm planning on buying a new monitor anyway soon. Still, even if you get a bigger monitor stretched still offers you bigger models. :) Bigger - easier to scan - can comfort your reaction time. There's a reason why many pros prefer it.

The reason is they played cs 1.6 pros who didn't often use 16:9, also it doesn't comfort your reaction time since although they are easier to see they move faster so it's the same end result.
2018-08-21 14:44
I just feel more comfortable on 1024*768 bb. No need to change, in a game like CS what matters is how you‘re feeling about using your own settings.

1. No lol, if you can't see people on native you have a problem 2. Just scale hud lol 3. Crosshair can look exactly the same just change the variables Tbh you flag, flair, fav teams say everything I need to know about your intelligence

1. models are literally bigger on 4:3 2. its gonna be in the way if you scale it in that much 3. crosshair can probably be same if you play on a low 16:9 res yes but the other 2 points were the serious ones anyway ive played on both ratios for a long time and 4:3 makes it much easier to kill people. the 1 inch of screen that I lose is not worth making me play worse.

then what is it? I am expecting some others if you can reply like that

No one is saying you cant use 4:3 if you prefer it just that 16:9 has actual advantages. If you choose to ignore them that's fine and it likely wont hurt your play very much but people who refuse to acknowledge that native is better are just wrong or baiting.

I play stretched 4:3 because the game feels more alive for me this way and has some sorta csgo feeling to it.
2018-08-21 14:48
Well it's just my personal opinion but for me it's easier to hit targets in 4:3 and it just feels you are more in the game as on 16:9 I get distracted a lot because of more FOV . Sure 16:9 is superior in other games .

B-But in 4:3 stretched people are fat and it makes me feel good about myself, which is a great mental boosterino Have the loveliest of days, VeryLovelyGuy.

I haven't played csgo much in 2018. Game feels weird with panorama, and with native I couldn't stay above 200 fps all the time anymore.

In 4:3 the models look bigger thats why i play it
