Do Estonians speak Russian? If so, could ropz join NaVi instead of Edward?

The writer of that article has the same or lesser qualifications to write concerning scandinavia as the guy on that thread. You are a moron Geography: Finland isn't a part of the Scandinavian peninsula. Language/Culture: The countries of Sweden, Denmark and Norway are traditionally Scandinavian, i.e. they speak North Germanic (Scandinavian) languages. The main language in Finland is Finnish, which is a Finnic language, which in turn belongs to the Uralic language family which is completely different language family than the one that the Germanic languages belong to (the Indo-European one).

Bruh, for example Ukrainians have their own language and all of them speak Russian and they also learn English and another language in school Also people from Latvia speak Russian
2018-09-13 14:23
Ukrainian is close to Russian thats why
2018-09-13 14:37
That's not the reason Polish, Slovakian, etc all these languages are close to Russian

suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure, 90% of the words the same, completely same grammar, different dialect = different language, basically what you're saying is that people from the UK speak a different language compared to people from the US
2018-09-13 14:52
It's actually different. Sure, it has some similar words but the languages itself are not the same. I wouldn't understand ukranian speech and I couldn't answer to someone who speaks ukranian. Russian and Ukranian even written differently.

He is exaggerating, we understand each other well. Many Ukrainians speak their language on vk and youtube, everybody understands them, though it's annoying because you know they could write in Russian but refuse for no actual reason. Maybe it's true, still, if you don't understand, it doesn't mean it's the case for others. During WWII, Ukrainians from villages who never learned Russian were sent to Russian-speaking groups and they could communicate with each other well. I know a guy who moved to Kiev, he said he didn't have much problem with understanding people and signs on the streets. As for me, I've even watched a tv show in Ukrainian and I used a translator only 2-3 times, the rest of the time, I just had to listen carefully to comprehend better. And yeah, was that necessary to shittalk? I just shared my thoughts. You are implying that the experience of mine other people is not real, which is ridiculous

It's because everyone used to speak on russian in Latvia back then.My father is from Latvia actually,so i have part of my family who's living/used to live in Latvia and every single one speaks on russian without any troubles and speak decent on latvian/english. They even teached me couple latvian words for fun, like paldies and lutzu.
2018-09-13 15:49
btw its ludzu(cant write correctly how to spell it on hltv) :D And latvians were never speaking russian, soviet union tried to make latvians speak russian, but we didn't so they imported thousands of russians to Latvia, which sucks. Now all people over the age of like 30 can speak russian quite good, but in younger ages less and less people learn russian

You just took Greek letters and went on with it, turning it into your own sauce because of the Orthodox Church in Constantinople, which was Greek. That's mostly how Alphabets were spread and modified for the local languages, so all sounds are properly represented. Western Europe did the same thing with the Roman Alphabet except it would simply add things on top of letters (when sounds were badly represented) rather than create brand new letters like Cyrillic compared to the Greek Alphabet. The Roman Alphabet itself took quite a few things from Greek, and shaped letters differently when carved or written (also the case with modern cyrillic). Its true name is the Cyrillic Alphabet, related to Saints Cyril and Methodius - creators of Cyrillic. Both BYZANTINE theologians who were born in Thessalonica, Greece. It wasn't created for Bulgarians in particular but for Slavs, and the Bulgarian Empire was indeed big and both Old (Church) Slavonic and Greek were spoken. Remember no such thing as Nationalism existed and people did not identify as Bulgarians like they would today, many Bulgarians even today are ethnically Greek, Turkic and Hunnic according to studies which are available on the internet and easily accessible.

I would add that so called 'Polish minority' mostly use russian lang. But those people are Polonized Balts, real slavics who came to LT were post WW2. I would say total russian speakers currently at 7% and actual ethnic Russians ~3%. Russian language is not declining anymore tho due to recent Ukrainian influx. LT birthrate is alright but nothing short of a savage baby boom is needed with current demographics.

We (under we I mean people born 90's and onwards) dont speak russian at all. Our parents and grandparents do because russia invaded us and kept Estonians under strict regime for long time. If ropz's one parent aint russian = he doesnt speak russian. Not because we dont understand russian languge or we cant learn - we dont speak it because we dont want to speak/leanr/listen to it. It disgusts 99% of estonian people.

Just look a politics they pretty much all want for Brussels to be second Moscow AKA capital of Lithuania. I think we need to pay attention to V4 or even Finland to look back at how Lithuania was before russia took over and changed peoples thinking.

As everyone already said younger estonians refuse to speak Russian as russians living in Estonia refuse to speak Estonian. This might lead to some sort of clash one day but hey, fuck them. I guess our main problem with the russians living in Estonia is that in Estonia we have one national language and it is Estonian, not Russian. No one is holding the russians in Estonia against their will so if they want to exclusively speak Russian or demand that others speak Russian then they dont respect the laws of our country and most estonians would like to see them leave to Russia because of that.

attitude to Russia? You mean the first 15 pages of our history school books describing cruelty, killings, starvation and mass deportation of Estonians to Siberia? Older people in Estonia speak Russian not because they like it they speak it because it was the only language Allowed in Estonia during Soviet Union time here. So if you think there is any positive attitude towards Russia amongst younger/older generation you clearly are delusional.
2018-09-13 15:18
No. it's not about things you described. It's about the question what's point of speaking and knowing Russian if you're not in Soviet Union any more? So people who don't have negative attitude to Russia can teach their chldren for Russian as they know it, but I'm sure there are many people who don't want to do it exactly because they have a negative opinion about Russia (I don't say that people like them are majority in your country, but they exist)
2018-09-13 15:27
> So if you think there is any positive attitude towards Russia amongst younger/older generation you clearly are delusional. Well there is, I know a bunch of Estonians that have lived there throughout their lives and they are pretty positive with Russians. Your hate and absence of history knowledge is pretty funny for me. Me myself I dont hate Russians or Russia. I am just talking the way things are here. Absence of history knowledge? Coming from a Russian I dont even think you understand what the fuck are you talking about here. You are trying to prove Estonians actually like Russians? Brother I can assure you that 95% of estonians hate russians even though nobody shows it out. The last memorial for mass deportation of Estonian was held 2 months back so the disgust is still there. g1.nh.ee/images/pix/900x675/T0r9y-1047c/.. 2018, june. Released 1 balloon for every person deported (Russians deported Estonians to Siberia) its held annually.
2018-09-13 15:56
Ofc he doesnt understand. In most of russian schools teachers of history say that Baltic States joined USSR voluntarily, it's really hard to find a russian who knows about the Secret protocol of Molotov–Ribbentrop pact. You dont need to explain these things to such people like the guy above. You won't bring him over. But if it makes you feel better, most of educated and anti-putin russians are on estonian side, and hate "estonian russians".

There are a lot of russians in Estonia since the Soviets invaded them, so some of the people speak russian, especially the older people IIRC, but they dont teach russian in estonian schools. Atleast it's not mandatory, but you can choose to learn it like you can choose german or french. Some estonian people have russian roots, but I don't think Ropz is one of those people since he has a very estonian name

Estonians that living at the east of their country speaks Russian (espicially in Narva) because it's very close to the Russia-Estonia border and there living the people from USSR so. There's even Russian-speaking school bitch
