FaceIt major boring [Serious]

I'm sure many other people feel this way, this major is absolute garbage. This event just doesn't feel like a major to me, I don't know why, so I'll try to explain myself better and tell you why IMO this event feels no better than any other 250k event. Challenger stage: Mostly predictable, nice upset from Vega to go trough to the legends stage but the only thing I really remember is the Tizian pistol flick, which was cool but Renegades would've most likely lost anyway looking at their horrendous form, and the NIP-Astralis game which was great ofcourse, but ito me it felt like Astralis weren't playing at their best anyway because they knew they were almost guaranteed to go trough to the next stage anyway. constant delays and issues at this stage. The Bo3's at the 2-2 were supposed to bring a tense do-or-die situation to teams and give them a chance to prove they deserved to go trough. Instead we got boring 2-0 stomps by the favourites. But hey, atleast Pasha got their unlimited eggs, right? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Legends stage: When I think of this majors legends stage, I think of how much we need better seedings. Let's take a look at some of the eliminated teams and who they had to face: NIP: Mouse, Liquid, Navi, Vega, MIBR (4/5 Playoffs) Mouse: NIP, MIBR, FaZe (2/3 playoffs) TyLoo: Hellraisers, BIG, FaZe, MIBR (All playoffs) and compare that to teams like: Hellraisers: G2, C9, BIG, TyLoo, Fnatic (1/5 playoffs) MIBR: TyLoo, Mouse, G2, Astralis, NIP (1/5 playoffs) It just doesn't feel like this major has made it so all of the best teams made it trough. Maybe the gap between the good teams and worse teams is just simply too big? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Playoffs: 2-0, 2-0, 2-1, 2-0, 2-0, 2-0 No clutch plays, no crazy blunders, no crazy memorable things like for example youtube.com/watch?v=nkCHyRsL2xI No SunNy nuke fail No fans shouting positions drama No youtube.com/watch?v=ri5zxSy_9yM There is nothing crazy happening, there is nothing people can talk about, it's so boring, it's so predictable, this will probably be the easiest golden pickem ever. I really really hope Katowice will be better. Because if Navi-Astralis doesn't deliver some crazy mind blowing clutch plays and some hilarious fails, then I think we could say we have had only one major in 2018. TLDR: Nothing special happened, doesn't feel like a major at all.

I agree, this game desperately needs new maps so we can see fresh strategies and innovative gameplay. Whenever casters hype up a crazy strat it's just a generic split most of the time, or a new tactic is just a simple nadestack

Yeah. Even as an Astralis fan I hope the game goes to 3 maps atleast. This is by far the most boring major I've ever watched.

The only way to revive it is to have a new map introduced after every major and only have one very big major every year IMO

But we get 1st vs 2nd in HLTV rankings in the finals. Boston: 2nd vs 5th Krakow: 11th vs 14th Atlanta: 1st vs 4th Cologne 2016: 1st vs 11th Columbus: 2nd vs 4th Cluj: 1st vs 4th Cologne 2015 and earlier: no HLTV rankings

Sure but the games before this have been very very boring 2-0 2-0 2-0 etc, no memorable plays, no controversies, no nailbiters, no epic storylines Boston for example was great because there was a great storyline with the first NA major, think about the Niko nuke clutch, the sunny nuke fail, and many more despite being 2nd vs 5th Krakow was crazy because of the weird upsets which made the game more interesting, sure the CS wasn't the greatest, but is it at this major?

I disagree. Pgl krakow was a very special major, so many upsets made the games crazy to watch and the players that got far into the tournaments were so ridiculously passionate. There was cool innovative 3d stuff and the crowd was mental Boston 2018 is probably seen by many as one of the best majors ever actually. Crazy underdog story from c9 going 02 to 32. Crazy memorable moments like I listed already. Faze choking and the inferno overtimes. Ropz' hands shaking because of how passionate and nervous he was. Sure there were people that said they didn't like those majors, but this major is on a whole other level. This is the most disappointing major I've ever watched. Remove the pickem and I'd say it's on the level of the average 250k event. The only people who come close to the passion of the players at previous majors were the HR guys imo. The other teams just didn't feel like they cared as much as you'd expect from a major.

Agree, but your analysis is to short. You should include the reasons and causes (and conditions) for this major to be boring and what could/should change next major.

It is indeed sad when the most memorable moment of the major is a single pistol flick in the challenger stage in a bo1 against a team that would go 0-3 anyway

I don't know about the worst major ever...but it is pretty sad considering how hyped these playoff matches were made to be. Personally, I don't mind the favorite winning, as long as a good game was played between the two. I was pretty excited about most of the matches, but MIBR fell short, Liquid fell short, FaZe fell short (although somewhat expected really). I knew MIBR would be taken out 2-0, but thought both games would be at least 26 rounds each. Expected Liquid to lose 2-1 after being blown out on the first map by Astralis, but after seeing the first half of nuke, I started to think otherwise. The match only went downhill from there. FaZe would definitely have a rough time against Astralis, but I thought they could pull it to a third map. It was close, but honestly FaZe was either getting blown out or barely winning each round. As for the games in the challenger and legends stage, that's how the Buchholz system works. Here's the deal. No one will ever be satisfied. FaceIt attempted to appease the crowd that hated top teams pitting against each other in the early stages of the major, so they had the best play the worst, second best play the second worst, etc., in hopes of getting the best major finals possible. If the favorite wins, then theoretically, the best teams will be on the opposite side of the bracket of each other. Essentially, you are hyping up the entire tournament for that one final match, and well this is what we got: #1 vs #2. With this format, you can still get upsets in the playoffs pretty often, but for the most part, it's about setting up the grand finals. So far, every team has fallen short on trying to perform well even if they do lose, so i understand the bore. On the other side of the spectrum, you have upsets every game. This can easily lead to a very boring major finals if a team wins against a much better team purely out of luck (happens very often when the team is on point for this one match, the other team is just having a bad day, etc) However, you do have some exciting matches outside of the major finals when the top 2 teams duke it out in the quarterfinals or something, so it really depends on preference.
