Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof So in your $ bills its written "In god we trust"-so basically you don't have an official state religion but you have a text saying in god we trust-which means all religions including Flying Spaghetti Monster god and those who worship the sun, saturn and etc right?

We have an amendment that prevents the government not allowing it's citizens to practice their religion. At the time when they decided to implement "In God We Trust" on the bills they weren't exactly thinking of the "Flying Spaghetti Monster". What came into mind of the founding fathers was most likely Christianity. But I suppose it can be interpreted like that as-well.

u don't know what came into mind of the founding fathers-as George Washington was a freemason.

The names of thirty-nine delegates are inscribed upon the proposed constitution. ... George Washington, as president of the Convention, signed first

Yes he signed it, he didn't draft it though. What exactly do you not understand about that.

It was drafted by the Second Continental Congress from mid-1776 through late 1777
2018-10-06 15:06
The Constitution was not written until 1787. The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776. It took us a few years of a shitty government to write the Constitution.

2018-10-06 17:20
We had the Articles of Confederation before the Constitution then we figured out that it wouldn't work because our federal government had basically no power ie. no taxes no army so we just worked as 13 separate countries. Eventually a Rebellion broke out and we realized we need a more centralized government.
2018-10-07 05:56
yea James Madison is known as the father of the constitution. He was the main writer of it as well as the main supporter.
2018-10-07 06:00
Also just because you're a freemason doesn't mean your religion is freemason. I'm guessing you don't have any idea about freemasonry either...

Of course I don't know what was in their minds at the time. Also if you are a freemason that means you usually believe in a religion. Since that is one of the rules to be in you have to believe in a religion.

"In God we trust" didn't come from the founding fathers. It was Eisenhower in 1956. He replaced the unofficial motto " E Pluribus Unum" (Out of many, one) with "In God we trust" and had it printed on the dollar bill. The founding fathers all were secularists.

Okay amerilard here I'll explain. Up until 1956 the nation's motto was: E pluribus unum which translantes to "Out of many, one" which was really cool and we should bring it back. It makes a lot of sense for our country too. I'm not sure exactly how "in god we trust" came about but I do know that in the 50's when congress passed the law the country was a lot more religious and a very large majority christian. something called "accommodationism" allows for the US government to legally "endorse" a religion so long as all religions are treated equally. TL;DR our motto used to be cool as fuck then got changed in the 50's. it's definitely changing but america is still largely a christian nation.

does this "accommodationism" is stated in the US consitution?
2018-10-06 14:26
ironically accommodationism and separation of church and state are both principles that come from interpretations of different clauses in the first amendment of the constitution. so the answer to your question is both yes and no. no, it is not directly mentioned. yes, the principles outlined in the first amendment apparently allow for such common law.

2018-10-06 14:11
pretty much this country was founded by christians but who didn't want to be ruled by a theocracy by any means so you'll see lots of christian influences in the government and politics but no laws that say you have to follow religion or be a christian or something. it's the same in many western nations.

the text on the bills refers to the christian god because americans voted into office all christian politicians as they themselves are christian, but that doesn't mean you can't worship satan or saturn or whoever the fuck you want. no one cares.

it's de-facto you dense twat. when the law was signed in 1956 america was white, christian, racist and nationalist. when an american politician opens their mouth about god, they refer only to the judeo-christian deity, especially in the 1950's. if you brought this argument to any educated person in the world, in real life, they would laugh in your face. now i'm done.

explicitly yes, implicitly no. originally it was meant to adress americans as a cristian nation in oppossition to godless commie terrorists. so objectively it means whatever the fuck you want it to mean, including that we trust spaghetti. but most americans are still going to identify it as a christian/american/western motto, and that's the point.

Even as an atheist, it doesn't really bother me, everyone that thinks rationally can see the hypocrisy, there's just no point in trying to change it, this country is too religious to see the obvious BS. And I don't mean all religious people either, most of my friends are Christians and a few Muslims, it's mostly the people who shout GOD when someone challenges them intellectually that I'm referring to.
