Greatest Peak?
 |
United States FlagMaster
I'm not referring to who is the best CSGO player of all time, just who had the highest, most dominant peak of performance, regardless of how long that peak lasted. For me I think 2014-2015 KennyS, 2016 NiKo, and Simple right now are contenders. Thoughts?

Mount Everest, known in Nepali as Sagarmatha and in Tibetan as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. The international border between Nepal (Province No. 1) and China (Tibet Autonomous Region) runs across its summit point. The current official elevation of 8,848 m (29,029 ft), recognized by China and Nepal, was established by a 1955 Indian survey and subsequently confirmed by a Chinese survey in 1975.[1] In 2005, China remeasured the rock height of the mountain, with a result of 8844.43 m. There followed an argument between China and Nepal as to whether the official height should be the rock height (8,844 m., China) or the snow height (8,848 m., Nepal). In 2010, an agreement was reached by both sides that the height of Everest is 8,848 m, and Nepal recognizes China's claim that the rock height of Everest is 8,844 m. In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society, upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India. As there appeared to be several different local names, Waugh chose to name the mountain after his predecessor in the post, Sir George Everest, despite George Everest's objections. Mount Everest attracts many climbers, some of them highly experienced mountaineers. There are two main climbing routes, one approaching the summit from the southeast in Nepal (known as the "standard route") and the other from the north in Tibet. While not posing substantial technical climbing challenges on the standard route, Everest presents dangers such as altitude sickness, weather, and wind, as well as significant hazards from avalanches and the Khumbu Icefall. As of 2017, nearly 300 people have died on Everest, many of whose bodies remain on the mountain. The first recorded efforts to reach Everest's summit were made by British mountaineers. As Nepal did not allow foreigners into the country at the time, the British made several attempts on the north ridge route from the Tibetan side. After the first reconnaissance expedition by the British in 1921 reached 7,000 m (22,970 ft) on the North Col, the 1922 expedition pushed the north ridge route up to 8,320 m (27,300 ft), marking the first time a human had climbed above 8,000 m (26,247 ft). Seven porters were killed in an avalanche on the descent from the North Col. The 1924 expedition resulted in one of the greatest mysteries on Everest to this day: George Mallory and Andrew Irvine made a final summit attempt on 8 June but never returned, sparking debate as to whether or not they were the first to reach the top. They had been spotted high on the mountain that day but disappeared in the clouds, never to be seen again, until Mallory's body was found in 1999 at 8,155 m (26,755 ft) on the north face. Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary made the first official ascent of Everest in 1953, using the southeast ridge route. Norgay had reached 8,595 m (28,199 ft) the previous year as a member of the 1952 Swiss expedition. The Chinese mountaineering team of Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo, and Qu Yinhua made the first reported ascent of the peak from the north ridge on 25 May 1960.

Device this year reminds me of NEO in 1.6.
2018-10-08 10:19
I will take this as an insult.. neo was the goat of 1.6 and did with a much worse team, so more like device = f0rest (only this year lol) and p1mple = neo (this year only as well)
2018-10-08 10:48
Neo is my favorite player of all time, I didn't say better or worse I said device reminds me of Neo, device like Neo does nothing wrong. Pimple is nothing like Neo, Neo was far smarter and actually got PGS over the line, it's hard to compare in this game as the games skill ceiling is lower, however device has impressed me the most of my short time watching 1-2 years.
2018-10-08 15:30

kennyS early 2015 for me, not just his numbers but the way he played, I don’t know how to describe it really. It felt like no matter in what position kennyS was in, whether he was entrying or clutching, as long as he had the AWP he could win the round, and it felt to me even more extreme than with s1mple, NiKo, olofmeister, etc. But maybe I‘m a bit biased. :3

"as long as he had the AWP he could win the round" If a player needs a particular weapon to win rounds, and that weapon is later nerfed, you have to question how good the player really was vs how much of it was just the weapon being OP. Even s1mple says that the AWP is the easiest weapon in the game AFTER the nerf.
2018-10-08 18:38
Yeah, the AWP may or may not have been too strong, but fact is that kennyS was the only one who was able to play to this level, even when the AWP supposedly was OP. Besides that, the other top teams usually had an AWPer aswell, and kennyS delivered against any opponent, as often as one could expect of him. I agree that the AWP is one of the easier weapons to just pick up, but I doubt that s1mple meant that the AWP was the easiest weapon to master/that the skill ceiling for it isn't high. Sure, other weapons may have a higher ceiling, but to yield the AWP effectively not only do you need to have plenty of mechanical skill, but might be the weapon with which good positioning is the most effective. I get your point, the AWP isn't that hard to use, but then again there aren't a lot of really effective AWPers, especially right now. Most of them are somewhat inconsistent.

As i've always said, the AWP is a confidence weapon, not a mechanically difficult weapon to use. This explains why veteran AWPers with low confidence can miss easy shots, meanwhile players like MSL can have MVP performances out of nowhere.
2018-10-08 21:53
its easy to be good with awp, but its very very hard to be great with awp, as i always say.

2014-2015 KennyS doesn't count because the AWP was doing most of the work for him in its pre-nerfed state. Entry-fraggers often have the highest skill peaks. Like Fer last year. Karrigan said in an interview that one of the reasons why FaZe always struggled against SK was because of Fer. They knew exactly where he would be every round and would send multiple players to try and stop him, but nothing worked. He'd just rip their heads off.

The fact that JW outranked him in the HLTV top 20 for 2014 sort of suggests that he wasn't the only one having his skill potential greatly enhanced by an OP weapon.

Northern lights flash in the sky. A blizzard blows, pelting on its way those too weak to withstand the fury of winter at its fullest. From the permafrost strikes a massive hand; the mythical giant once deemed dead off the coast of Italy now rises to life, regenerated, from Lappish soil. The time is due. Around the world, the word spreads. In Sweden, the best of the best cower in fear and lock themselves in the nearest IKEA retail store. The Brazilians run into the safety of the jungle, the Danes play dead in Legoland and the Slavs sprint crying to babushka’s warm embrace. Enceladus’s augurs are unleashed upon the scene. Aleksi “allu” Jalli hails from his journey spent in international teams. A man may leave Finland, but Finland never leaves a man. Once again, he picks up the green rifle, this time not for money or fame, but to smite all opposition in the name of Enceladus. Aleksi “aleksib” Virolainen leaves the fabled squad of HAVU to lead what we can finally describe as a Finnish superteam. Under his leadership shall the northern guns spit death and destruction upon foes who wail in their weakness. Jani “aerial” Jussila joins after the biggest transfer of the Finnish e-sport scene from his former team SuperJymy. No longer will he be the only stand-out player of his team, but instead, a vital ingredient of a chaotic cocktail made up of Finland’s finest. Jere “sergej” Salo thwarts all rumors of desperate Internet trolls trying to tell they know his parents who told him to stop playing. Oh, the humanity! Backed up by the forces at home, bursting from motivation like a wolf thirsting for blood, he returns to ravage everything in his path. Where skill rises to speak, experience sits silent and disciplined. Sami “xseveN” Laasanen fills the ranks from iGame, for what would the team be if they wouldn’t buy the best player from every other Finnish team? Vigilantly standing, supporting his teammates be the cause what it pleases to be, he will be the shield and sword his comrades need to achieve the ultimate. The warning has been given. The sky screams, the ground shakes and the oceans boil. ENCE is coming. #EZ4ENCE
