0.999... = 1 proof
 |
United States mibr_need_taco
first 1/3 = 0.333... correct? and 0.333... x 3 = 0.999... correct? and 1/3 x 3 = 1 correct? since 1/3 = 0.333... that means you can switch 1/3 and 0.333... in both the equations: 0.333... x 3 = 0.999... -> 1/3 x 3 = 0.999... and 1/3 x 3 =1 -> 0.333... x 3 = 1 so 0.333 x 3 = 0.999... is true, but 0.333... x 3 = 1 is also true, so that means 0.999... = 1 /closed

if you devide 1 by 3 you get 0.33333333. just google it and it shows up

the 0.333 goes on forever

It doesn't go forever in google though

There was a thread yesterday as well... Guys just look it up on Wikipedia. All mathematics agree 0.99999 is 1
2018-10-17 08:28
/open 1/3 is an infinite never ending number, so no. 1/3 =/= 0,333... nt /closed
2018-10-17 08:28
The three dots after "0,333" indicate a never ending sequence of 3's, so yes. 1/3 =/= 0,333 but 1/3 = 0,333... nt

you said its infinity, which means it doesnt stop... wtf is that logic man, and then you further on say that 0,000000000001 is at the end of infinity? infinity doesnt have an end, you learn that in kindergarden
2018-10-17 09:26
I think that he meant 1/3 has an infinite number of 3-s after the dot and if you try to write it down you always miss by a bit. Don't know why is he saying that though

People are dumb nowadays. Yes, of course 0.99999... = 1, it's basic math knowledge. I like how 12y.o try to argue with it while they don't know a single shit in math

yes man. if i buy 100 diamonds worth 1.000.000$ each then i should pay only 99.999.999.. dollars.and save a few cents there. Nothing wrong with it , in fact that's how people get rich (:
2018-10-17 09:26
I don't think they get rich off saving a few cents xd

but what if i buy 100.000 diamonds? or 10.000.000.000 other things at 100$ and pay only 99.99$ for it? That's like making thousands of dollars everyday.
2018-10-17 09:37
No, you lost $999900000000 as diamonds on retail won't be nearly as expensive as factory new, (no pun intended).
2018-10-17 14:15
no matter what you're buying for that amount, you're still only saving a few cents.
2018-10-17 22:23
So in fact 0.9! is equal to 1 and I'll show you the prove. 0,9! = 9/10 + 9/100 + 9/1000 ... = 9/10 *(1+ 1/10 + 1/100 ...) = 9/10 * [Big Sigma] n=[infinite] k=0 (1/10)^k = 9/10 * (1/(1-(1/10))) [And that is in fact 1 which the calculator should show aswell] = 1 Unfortunately I don't know how to put the sigma and the infinity sign in there but you can just look it up if you want to know what it is.

The thing u call 0.9999... is a geometric serie. From there, it’s obvious.

Another day, another thread claiming that 0.999... = 1 -.- 0.999... =/= 1 youtube.com/watch?v=--HdatJwbQY
2018-10-17 22:30
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0.999... >This number is equal to 1. In other words, "0.999..." and "1" represent the same number.
2018-10-17 22:32
Oh, when Wikipedia says it it must be true. Just forget mathematical logic then.
2018-10-18 17:52
u dont have any mathematical logic m8
2018-10-18 17:59
0.999... = 1-1/10^n and not 1 You cannot prove that 0.999... = 1 without cheating the pure mathematical logic.
