Wrong 4:3
 |
France TheFaren
Im reading too many misconceptions about 16:9 and supposed advantages of 4:3. Misconception #1 Stretched makes it easier to hit enemies. Wrong, obviously. In csgo, your bullet lands on what is the equivalent as the four pixels that are the center of your screen. Stretched or narrowed, the difficulty to hit said pixels among surrounding pixels stays the same. It is bigger, yes, but just as easy to hit, if that makes sense, because the stretched nature of 4:3 stretched just spaces out the pixels with one another, but they are just as hard to hit. Misconception #2 I play 4:3 because more FPS. I hope these people are aware that native 1920x1080 is not the only resolution of 16:9 and that there are 16:9 resolutions that will offer high fps, whilst keeping the larger fov of 16:9. Misconception #3 "Black bars is better for awping because you are more focused on the center of your screen" How does that even make sense. Why would awping require you to pay more attention on the center of your scree, as opposed to rifling or pistoling where you must constantly be focused on your crosshair, as you are 1 click away from headshoting them. The size of the scope (what's in it) is the same on any res so not sure where one would find any advantages whilst scoped. Unscoped however, one must truly have some sort of attention deficit disorder to not be able to focus on the middle of your screen. (If you do, you can always shrink the HUD towards the middle and create the same feeling of accentuated focus by small fov, whilst actually having the full 16:9 fov advantage) Misconception#4 Pros play with 4:3, if 16:9 is better than why don't they switch. You have heard this 1000times but I'll just say again, pros are used to. They played 1.6 on 4:3 monitors and used 4:3 when switching to go. CSGO pros are known for hating any sort of change what so ever. (New sounds, 3D oscillation, new features, etc). If the opinion of skilled players influences you so much, maybe you might be interested to listen to dev1ce (top 3 player in the world) who has said multiple times that 16:9 native is the best resolution, just he is too lazy to switch because he has spent thousands and thousands of hours playing 4:3. 16:9 is the only resolution to have visible advantages over other resolutions, so in a game like csgo, why not take advantage of such things to have the competitive edge? It might not be the case for pros, as they have already played 7-10k hours on their 4:3 res and don't have will to change, but I don't see why anyone else would use 4:3. There are actually 0 advantages. Hope this cleared some things up, feel free to leave your thoughts on 4:3 or 16:9 and I can answer any questions.

TLDR I have no problem with people using 4:3, like idc ofc, but those who use it have no justification for not switching, (other than lazyness) and any other reason is misconstrued.

I completely agree, but I still use 4:3 bb simply because to me it feels better, and I've only been playing since 2015. It's weird, but CS:GO is just that game in which seemingly only you personal preferences matter, even if there were more logical choices.

2018-10-23 17:33
I know. Still using 4:3 bb because it actually distracts me with that big FOV (Just used to it of course). Sometimes when i hold like 2 angles i wish i had 16:9 cause i can't see enough with 4:3, but that's really rare. other than that, i never experienced a big issue with the little less FOV

I like 4:3 because it feels faster though i know it isnt. Also thats just personal and i probably have to get my eyes fixed but they hurt when playing CSGO on 1080p for too long.
2018-10-23 17:35
in the end it's all about preferences, one thing is not better than the other thing i personally use BB because of 1.6, and I feel like I can't watch everything with stretched full screen. It's like my eyes have to "travel" too much

>It is bigger, yes, but just as easy to hit Nope. While it is technically not easier to hit, it is easier to hit for a human. Why? The same reason why you hit better with a lower sens than an insanely high (although it's technically no problem to hit, as you just have to move your mouse to the correct spot). Larger models help to identify and lock on the target more efficiently. It's called ergonomy.

Ergonomy is limited by technology. It is physically and technologically impossible for it to be easier to hit, anything else is complete placebo.

People say, it's habit, because I played 4:3 for so long... If n0thing can play 16:9 after years and years of 4:3, so can you all. I switched and it took 1 hour of DM before I felt comfortable. Instead of being so closed to change and asserting you CANNOT change. Give it a real shot (like 2days of 16:9 ) and you will be surprised.

For some people its easier to play with stretched = easier to hit your enemies. So its just personal preference which feels best = easiest for you. It doesnt change any game mechanics, but it could still be easier for some people to play with that setting. Just like some people find 169 easier than 43.

IDC if u use 16:9 lol, you don't get the point that nothing actually changes except FOV.
2018-10-24 21:19
I get the point. Im just explaining how it feels to me.
2018-10-24 21:20
n its not really bs, its just the result of playing on those settings and what occurs. Go play 16:10 bb 1.8 sens see how it kjaerbyes your aim up for example

2018-10-24 21:25
I took the curtesy of reading your long article so please read all of mine. Probably the most inspiring of educational topics is the human brain. My friend, do not underestimate the nocebo and placebo effect. They are more powerful than you realise. You give a fake pill and say it will make them nauseous and it will make them nauseous. Surprisingly we actually see a physiological change in the body and a real sympotom is produced. I could guess that this could be the same for csgo. Let’s suggest a trustworthy source ( s1mple - best player in the world ) says you can aim better in 4:3 I hypothesise that they would aim better despite what common sense and deduction tells us that aim should in-fact be the same. The psychological impact of simply believing 4:3 is better probably has a huge effect on how players play despite as afore mentioned ; common sense and use of deduction leads to the conclusion the 16:9 is better.

I see. And that would be true, hypothetically. But here is a more concrete example. Dev1ce, current best player in the world, (atm), says 16:9 is better, and the placebo effect you mentioned, is aided by reality and a larger FOV. Your example is a hypothetical, mine is real.
2018-10-24 23:34
i thought you’d mention this. *sigh* There are many more 4:3 influences. I’ve never in fact heard of device saying this which means it’s probably obscure and most the player base hasn’t heard of this and watches s1mple with 10k+ viewers when he streams as well as other streamers who probably have more influence with the general player base than a single player who’s sole interaction with the community is through interviews rather than streaming ( which would probably be more ‘personal’ and memorable ) Also I don’t want to get into an argument, but s1mple is better than device.

Us educated beings refers to 99% of the population, there is no pretentiousness in saying I belong to that 99% and that you do not. Also, I am the only one here putting out facts, indicating a higher level of education you might aspire to reach.

You forget that in cs 1.6 the fov was 90 @ 4:3. So technically if pros are 'used to 1.6 4:3' they should be playing 16:9 cause of fov 90. Pros play 4:3 just cause it makes you a better fragger, its a lower fov(in csgo). so it does have its advantages. the whole 'used to 4:3 arguement is invalid'. Has nothing to do with 1.6 People play 4:3 cause of how it feels. Cs cant be broken down to technicalities from a subjective perspective(res sens hardware etc), in alot of fps games its about the 'feeling'. 4:3 just happens to give people the feeling they want :i guess. KK

4:3 bb> 16:9 because you have less area to focus on and if you dont have crosshair placement like a monkey you wont need those side bars anyway

fact #1 stretched makes it easier to see people but they also move across your screen faster
2018-10-24 23:12
you dumb af, models are bigger on stretched so they are obviously easier to hit. they move faster tho so it's preference

What "No" It's a fact It's zoomed in horizontally so it's easier to see, can't argue with that
2018-10-25 15:34
i don't like the "there are other res' on 16:9" argument. yes, you can get a lower res on 16:9 for better fps, but there's a difference between removing pixels by blurring out stuff vs removing pixels by blurring out stuff AND chopping off basically 30% of your screen. the 30% of you screen that you lose is what gives you the edge in fps. tl;dr, 4:3 chops off pixels; its better than blurry 16:9. theres a reason no one uses blurry 16:9

Yeah it might be that the downscaling algorithm is less efficient than pushing out native resolution video, if graphical processing power is redundant. E: Sorry I mean upscaling. If the image is rendered smaller than the screen resolution, it has to be upscaled after rendering.

16:9 is for me a bit too much to look around with my eyes and 4:3 too less its weird with bb so 16:10 is absolutley perfect
2018-10-25 00:54
I agree with everything what you said, but there is one thing that keeps me with 4:3.... Habit. And I dont want to change my habit. At least in PUBG, Overwatch and other games I always play 1920x1080 ;)

i feel like the game feels so fucking fast on 4:3. 16:9 feels like it slows the game down a bit and makes it easier to track people. still would force myself to play 4:3 if i still played tho
2018-10-25 02:31
16:10 fight me ;)
2018-10-25 02:31
In my opinion, as a player that tested both resolutions and played csgo since the release date, i feel in 4:3 the game runs smoother, for every type of situation you can face, example: spray in 4:3 is smoother vs spray in 16:9. Peeking with awp in 4:3 vs peeking in 16:9. But by the way, i preffer 16:9, and i just change to 4:3 when i've got pissed off because the low fps, tearing, etc. PS: i've got a i5 4590, not the best processor to play csgo :(

No. It does notake sense, we are not fucking 2dimensional bots. Our brains are extremely competent and we notice as much one display as one that shows 10 or so centimeters extra. Unless you have a serious mental problem, I don't see how limiting your fov would have a real impact on your attentiveness.
