A bit different, we understand each others almost perfectly, a Czech guy saying that he can speak Slovakian and vice versa is like selling a car and say that it has 4 wheels and can drive you to places.

Almost none of you speak English :( and we have a lot of Polish immigrants in DK. Otherwise nice people and an enjoyable country with lots to do
2018-10-24 12:58
Yeah, most of people don't speak English, even communicative, I think (personally) it's because of our education system, most of the Polish people I know, who speaks at least communicative level learned it by themselves because they really wanted to, or through games like me. Fun fact is - I was in Germany on vacation, and they also don't have very good English-level in society, or I had bad luck with people, but most times they had problems with understanding really simple phrases :(

It's true. Large countries such as Poland and Germany usually dub everything, so their English skills decrease. It's a shame really. But it's also why every Dane can speak English quite fluently. We don't dub anything, and only have subtitles in Danish.

2018-10-23 20:15
how different are Russian and Ukrainian?
2018-10-23 20:16
The most simular language to ukrainian is belarusian and polish, russians will understand only like 35-45%. Russian language was formed with big inluence of Golden Horde so its not simular to most slavic languages. The thing is that many ukrainians know russian.
2018-10-23 22:41
> Russian language was formed with big inluence of Golden Horde so its not simular to most slavic languages There are some words from turkic languages in russian, but saying that russian is "not simular to most slavic languages" is so funny. But yes, we have foreign loanwords (like any other languages), i guess some of these words exist in ukrainian also: bit.ly/2q7VZgD > The most simular language to ukrainian is belarusian and polish > polish It's not, even tho ukrainian language has a lot of loanwords from polish. Polish is a west slavic language, and russian and ukrainian are east slavic languages. Polish language has different grammar and completely different pronunciation.
2018-10-23 22:59
You don't know that you are saying, ukrainian is very simular to polish, maybe you think so because polish is cyrillic based but you are wrong. west and east slavic? lol watch this patrioty.org.ua/images/2016/02/14124758_..
2018-10-23 23:32
Lmao, the guy who says that Russian is not similar to the most slavic languages tells me that i don't know what am i saying. Ukrainian has a lot of loanwords from Polish, but only loadnwords. I already said it, and I have no idea why you posted that image. Whad did you try to prove? It's still East Slavic language, both Russian and Ukrainian were formed from mix Church Slavonic and old East Slavic dialects, and gramatically they are close.

It's the level you are speaking a language. If your english is enough to communicate with people on here, your level should be at least B2 i guess C2 --> Native speaker level C1 B2 B1 A2 A1 --> Beginner level

we have 200+ languages + more dialects . there's no national language in India , but English and Hindi are official languages . so , they either communicate in Hindi or English . 75% people can speak or understand Hindi .
2018-10-23 20:42

 |
India DODO22922
I don't know about birth limiting program . our population density is 400/sq km ( I guess ) which is not really alarming cause India has vast land , oceans in 2 sides to expand further and resources . population growth rate is not high either ; but in some cities / places population density is high .. like my state ( west Bengal ) has high population density 800/sq km i guess .. cause our govt failed to stop Bangladeshi ( 1100+/sq km there ) immigration . India also has less urban area ..so people from rural area makes urban area more populated . things changing though . as for govt , no govt. can be perfect , there should be criticism always .

It's mainstream in Ruslandistan to learn Chinese , in the reason that we have East-sided course , to work with our narrow-eyed friends , also many Russians speak Chinese because we are much involved in China foreign policy- in cities like Vladivostok, Irkutsk, almost everyone knows Chinese a bit - tourists and traders And don't forget about ruski students learning in Hong-Kong, Shanghai etc

English French (learned it in school but never actually used it, probably forgot most) Russian (started learning on Duolingo, never got around to doing more than a couple lessons but I plan on learning it fluently, would prefer to be actually taught it though) I also want to learn German at some point but I don't think I can learn two languages at once
2018-10-23 23:21
I hate Duolingo. I mean, it's very useful, but initially it forces you to learn too much unnecessary words. If you want to get A1-2 fast you should learn the core words. lingua.org.uk/evg.minis.html > I don't think I can learn two languages at once It's quite possibly, but you have to start from one language. You can add another one when you remember at least 800-1000 words and start understanding the language mechanics. UPD: btw feel free to add me to bookmarks and ask me when you need some help with russian.

Why? Learning a language is kind of a same as learning to ride a bike. Once you learn it you will know it for the rest of your life. And you muricans should also learn some other languages it opens totally new worlds for you to explore.
2018-10-25 00:56
Well for the record, alot of americans dont really care but at the same time alot of americans are also willing to learn. Me personally, I'm down to learning languages, currently trying to get my hands on college level learning books for Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, and French cause why not and I had my eyes on Korean and Japanese for quite sometime. But the only problem for me is that I tend to forget things very easily, idk why tho. Although I did end up picking up phrases and words from many other languages cause I have a habit of watching vids where people speak a different language for their vids like Korean.

I knew there is also some not so stupid muricans in Murica but in hltv... No way man! Either you are not muricano or this is not hltv.org! Imo korean and japanese are much harder because you also need to learn their alphabet :S But gl learning those :)
2018-10-25 01:30
Naw I am an americano. I started gaining more interest in attempting languages after watching a vid about Tim Doner who is an american like me but hes a hyper polyglot as he knows at least 20 languages but is only fully fluent in a few out of all of them (hes currently 23 but was around 17 at the time for the 20 languages thing)
2018-10-25 21:34
Did you learn these languages by being surrounded by natives or just to open your mind? and how much time did you take to learn each one

The languages that I can speak well I learned mostly by being with native speakers and other languages just learned myself a bit before visiting coutries where new languages are used :) Time to learn is pretty hard to say :D I was really bad at languages in school so Swedish I have been learning over 10 years but still I know Romanian better which I have only learned less than a year :D
2018-10-26 22:06
I would like so much to learn more languages but i get bored soooo easily,i had to learn english in 8 months(playing games) but i want to find a place where it shows your learning progress and then you have to test it with some kind of people that will see if you are really improving

You're a legend if you know classical languages. Are you self-taught or did you learn Latin in school?
2018-10-24 21:39
I learned Latin at Miami University- Oxford.
2018-10-24 21:54
very nice. How good is your Latin? Can you read w/o a dictionary?
2018-10-24 21:59
Yes, I can read without dictionary
2018-10-24 22:38
How much time and effort did you put into this? I'm considering learning classical Latin and Attic Greek, but idk how long it'd take to get decent.
