Ex-Ibuypower current punishment thoughts

Alright, this is something I have always wondered. What does everybody think about the current bans on the former-Ibuypower roster? So far, it has been nearly 4 years (August 20th 2014), since that fateful scandal. The only events they are unbanned from Dreamhack, ESL, and ESEA events. (I know they can still go to like epicenter, IEM, and star series, etc,) It has been a long time like even though what they did is wrong, I feel like this was the first match-fixing event in the history of CS: GO. I don't know, I feel like the ban should be shortened to like 4 to 5 years now. The players themselves have learned their lesson, and a 4-5 year ban is not a slap on the wrist or a light punishment. I just want to know what the community thinks What are your guy's thoughts, reply if you have your own perspective to either refute or support my opinion.

Wow, that was fast, could you explain your reasoning, please? Also, are you responding to the right forum?

This, plus the only tournament they're still banned from are the majors, which let's be honest they'd never make anyway

well I think realistically steel or swag only could potentially qualify but have to be very lucky and prepared
2018-10-25 01:29
swag no steel with ghost maybe
2018-10-25 01:30
ye I doubt swag team but they can theoretically if they qualified to epicenter but nrg was without daps so ye. But ghost are actually pretty good

I don't think ghost would make it to the major even if steel was unbanned but that's just my opinion
2018-10-25 01:36
Well, we have seen Cinderella stories for teams such as complexity and win strike(QBF) in the past. You never know, also Neptune is a young talent that has potential to strive on LAN.
2018-10-25 01:45
Well, Ghost is number 2 seed in ESL pro league NA region and Swole Patrol defeated VP recently. I would not say they are no namers, more like lesser tier teams who still make a name for themselves. Both Swole Patrol and Ghost Gaming were invited to North America closed qualifier for IEM Katowice 2019, so they have a shot.
2018-10-25 01:30
only ghost is relevant swole patrol is not, and beating VP in 2018 is like beating a fucking NA mdl team
2018-10-25 01:32
I actually think they should apply some kind of big cash penalty to those players, make them have second thoughts on using cheats
2018-10-25 01:26
That is an interesting idea, a hefty fine and a written apology would be good after a 4-year ban. Makes it similar to committing a crime in the US. Again, an interesting idea.

Valve needs to investigate more into this it ruins the enjoyment of betting when you can clearly see that a team is throwing or throwing rounds for handicap ect
2018-10-25 15:53
you fool. ibuypower sacrificed themselves so they could seal away the great demon dboorn

richard lewis exposed them and they tried to tarnish his reputation to no end. if they just admitted it there then there would be a lot more sympathy but put our more lies instead. some people forget about taking this part into consideration with the ban.

+1 that’s true

Well, a well thought written apology would be nice. Look what they did was really bad, and I am glad they were caught, but I feel like a lifetime ban is just too excessive. I joined Csgo in mid 2016, so I do not have any sort of personal connection to these players, the main reason I feel like their bans should be nullified, is because the length of the punishment does not fit the crime in my opinion. Also, Richard Lewis himself said in an interview that he has had mixed feelings over reporting the match-fixing. He said himself that some days he wakes up feeling horrible for ruining the lives of 4 players, who got an extremely harsh punishment. Other days, he feels just for what he did, for the love of the community. (This is not an exact quote, I am just paraphrasing). I just feel like shortening the ban to 5 years will be a well-enough punishment, since the stigma for match fixing will forever haunt these players for waht they had done.

5 year ban for cheating on lan vs. indefinite for throwing
2018-10-25 01:55
well actually it wasn't valve who gave that 5 year ban, could still be they will give their own ban however I would doubt people want to play with this guy anyway :D... Regardless as we can see ex ibp also has been already unbanned by many organizers so you can't really compare these bans as one was given by valve and one was not.

Oh yea. ESIC =/= Valve my bad:)
2018-10-25 15:25
I think they should be unbanned, not for DaZeD AZK or even Swag, but for steel because that guy is really grinding to get back on top. While DaZeD and AZK gave up and Swag faded away, Steel is still developing the next NA talents and he should be respected.

I never understood one thing... Was this an arrangement only between players (except ska) or was the org also in?
2018-10-25 02:00
org was paying peanuts players wanted money each player got like 600 dollars for it or smth
2018-10-25 02:05
Was is disgusting that they threw a match for money? Yes. Do they deserve a punishment? Yes. Would they have threw the match if they knew that a ban would be permanent? I highly doubt that. The state CS:GO was in when they threw, honestly nobody knew how big the game was going to be. They were good as players and sure after a lot of work, they just probably say some quick money, not knowing that games for millions would be played in just a few years. There wasn't really any clear rules on the subject, so unsportsmanlike conduct, obviously. Throwing a game clearly violates CS:GO's generally accepted rules of sportsmanship, but generally being the key-word. Unfortunately ex-IBP became the scapegoat.

it actually feels nice that they didn't get unbanned, mostly so that people never forget what happened meanwhile once upon a time s1mple got banned by esl (for cheating or whatever it was), people have forgotten that shit (most of you probably weren't even in the scene back then fucking 2018 profile shits)
2018-10-25 15:36
Since there is a lot of money involved in such scandals (from the betting companys) they will never be unbanned. You now betway etc are the top sponsors of almost every event and they will never let guys be unbanned that where able to fix a match. The most money in the esports scene is made out of the gambling industry and its crucial for them to keep their credibility. So, not gonna happen.

this is irrelevant because they are all trash players now or inactive even if they were un banned they would still be playing in their shitty tier 5 NA teams
