I'm impressed to see a real proghead on HLTV. Mind if I ask your age? And now I'm wondering how i did forgot to mention Gentle Giant's "Octopus"...

I am 19 what about you?. Yea I see it very rarely on HLTV also, amazing stuff. GG are amazing also, my 2 favorites would be Acquiring the Taste, Free Hand with Octopus close third
2018-11-05 01:44
Octopus and In a Glass House for me. I'm 30, that's absolutely amazing to see someone who's 19yo into that kind of prog. I mean, I'm into in for years (seen my first Yes show when i was 10, Jethro Tull when I was 11), but I never see a lot of younger people when I attend gigs of older bands... I assume you also have a parent who's into that genre?

My dad does a little, but it is more me and a buddy of mine. I saw Yes, Utopia, Rush 2x, and some other non prog bands. I do really want to see Dweezil Zappa as Frank Zappa is one of my all time favorites.
2018-11-05 02:16
Are you only into those old bands or do you like newer ones? Do you listen to all kind of prog related music? What about RPI for instance? That's a good thing to have a friend who likes the same music as you, I have absolutely none ahah! I made friends at concerts but they are my parents' age (and my parents actually come to gigs too). Also, you can do it a bit like my dad and I and both focus on different stuff and share them afterwards. My dad is the one who will mostly buy stuff from Western Europe and US, while I'm the one looking into stuff from Italy and Nordic countries. Still it doesn't prevent us to eventually both buy the same things when we like them, but overall we get to hear more :)

I listen to new bands, old bands, all genres of music just about (except country I hate country music). Not sure who RPI is or what it stands for. But thats awesome, Italy has great prog stuff!

RPI does actually stand for Rock Progressivo Italiano. There are incredible gems in that genre...

Newer things to check: Il bacio della medusa - Discesa agl'inferi d'un giovane amante; Gran Turismo Veloce - Di carne di anima; Il tempio delle clessidre (self titled). Sorry for the delay, I was on a city trip with my gf :)

Of Course, Selling England by the Pound is one of my all time favorite albums. SO many great ones, my second favorite would be Foxtrot
2018-11-05 02:15
I'd still pick Foxtrot if I had to choose one! Good thing with them is that there are several great cover bands, and Hackett still plays a lot of Genesis at his shows. He will play Selling in its entierty on the next tour btw.
2018-11-05 02:17
I dont know anything about genesis except that Phil Collins is their drummer. What songs do you recommend for a soon to be listener?
2018-11-05 02:39
I guess no one would argue with this one: youtube.com/watch?v=SD5engyVXe0 Others would be The Knife, The Musical Box, Supper's Ready...

Depends if you like prog music, go with The Knife or watcher of the skies. If you like more poppy music, later in their career, phil collins becomes the singer. So songs like invisible touch or thats all are good.
2018-11-05 03:20
I could never get anything past "And then they were three" on which there are still several good songs... With the mere exception of the song "Jesus he knows me" but it's as much for the lyrics as it's for the catchy chorus.

So mike who: Does all the album art work produces all the tracks with the rest of the band writes the lyrics plays drums, keys, guitar and extra sounds and does vocals has no talent?
2018-11-14 12:59
album artwork is cool and all but it has nothing to do with the music lp's lyrics are mediocre at best never seen him play the drums, but i guess he isnt better than rob and rob isnt talented. nothin special when it comes to the keyboard and same with the guitar. brad isnt even that good of a guitarist. meh rapper and his singing is awful so yeah lp is pretty basic

Yay, didn't expect you to check the band to be honest ahah, that's dope! Man I need to get hooked on NiN asap. I've always had the feeling that I should start listening to them. Any songs to get started with?
2018-11-08 12:56
I think the most obvious one would be Hurt, the song Johnny Cash made super famous (most people didn't even know it was a NiN song). It's from the second album Downward Spiral. If you wanna check them out just start from the 1st album, but Hurt is a fantastic example of Reznor's song making.
