OnePlus6T

Anyone here buy one yet -- or planning on buying one? I got mine yesterday and really like it so far. The only thing I don't like is the haptic feedback is garbage but I hear this has been an issue with OnePlus phones for a while.

For the money I must agree. I usually buy those expensive flagships each year but this year nothing caught my attention so I jumped on the OnePlus6T since it now works on Verizon in the US whereas none of the past ones would. I have the Pixel2XL which I've used for the past year but the OnePlus6T has already made me forget about it :P
2018-11-09 19:32
Lol why change (downgrade depending on who you ask)? are you that much of a tech enthusiast?

I don't consider it a downgrade. But to answer your question I actually have 2 lines I use and one of my phones broke last week so I needed a new phone for that line. I was going to buy something secondhand and cheap but I always wanted to try a OnePlus device but never could since none ever worked on my network. Since I finally had a chance to try one and I needed a phone anyway I got the OnePlus6T.
2018-11-09 19:44
Don't listen to him only downgrade is camera and possibly updates after few months. My 5t gets updates too late nowdays as they have 2 new devices.

I think the Camera is the downgrade but that's it. But I have a 2XL so that's not an issue. As far as Updates go that will never be an issue since the OnePlus devices get lots of love on XDA and I'll be able to use the latest versions of Android through custom ROMS. I've only had the phone for a day and already unlocked the bootloader and rooted it.
2018-11-09 20:16
Damn, the Pixels almost the only phones I'm considering nowadays because of the far superior camera on them.

I love the Pixel line and had the First XL and still have my 2XL and was planning on getting a 3XL this year but that notch was just too much. I couldn't look past it. The subtle notch on the OnePlus6T isn't too bad and I'm actually using the hide feature so you don't even see it. If I need to snap any pictures I still got my 2XL for that ;) Hopefully next year the 4XL is better because this years is bad imo.
2018-11-09 19:48
isnt it a flagship anyway, it's nearly $1000?
2018-11-09 20:44
xiaomi and oneplus are midrange huawei is highend.
2018-11-09 20:53
that's not what flaghip means, every manufacturer can have their own flagship model... in the case of oneplus it's the 6t i.e samsung has the budget j series and flagship s series
2018-11-09 20:58
yes but oneplus and xiaomis flagships are cheaper than say huawei or apple
2018-11-09 20:58
still a flagship and still the same price roughly, 6t only $100 or so cheaper than s9 here which is nothing when you are paying 4 figures for a phone
2018-11-09 21:01
maybe in the upside down, but not elsewhere mi 8 pro and oneplus 6t is £500 mate 20 pro is £900

Maybe they shouldn't have been retards and put it in the screen then? I don't think anyone asked for that. People did ask for a headphone jack though. It is possible to fit one in that chassis, S9+ is almost identical in dimensions and it has a larger battery with a headphone jack.

The Great thing is, OP brings out 2 phones a year. I allways jsut sell my phone from this years generation (6 in this case) and buy the next one next year (7). You allways get the newest hardware for a great price, and if you sell your phone, you can still get good money for it and you will pay the same for 4 new phones in 4 years, rather then just buying a new phone every 4 years which you will have to buy fully, because your old phone is worth shit.

When I was a kid I had a really bad experience with android phones, so looking back I get really bad flashbacks So far the iphone have served me well, but definitely dissapointed in their "innovation" department but still better than android imo

Can you specify the problems you had with android phones?

I had a HTC phone back in the day and it was so bad at everything... also started to lag and slow down after 3-4 months of usage. It gave me an impression that android phones are cheap as hell (made in china mindset you know) and just shitty in general. Can't remember the other android phone, but literally same shit happened so from that day one I just ignored these android phones
2018-11-09 19:38
It honestly all depends on which brand / model you own. Ive been using android phones for at least 9 years now, ive had around 8 different phones, and ive never had any big problems with them, I just swapped them often cuz I had a lot of spare money. There were some issues like big battery usage or overheating, but setting the phone to its factory settings solved them all.
2018-11-09 22:16
You buy iPhones for iOS not for the hardware anyway because there's really nothing special with the hardware.

True, and right now I have a macbook and iphone so the iOS is definitely something I'm familiar with at this point. Don't think I'm going to try an android just yet, but if Apple keeps falling behind in their innovation and products I probably will try one again in the next 2-3 years

they are failling since beginning. They are just taking android stuff, gives that some pretty cool name and reselling that stuff to apple user like super cool feature that no phones had, have or will have in future. Meanwhile android users already using that thing.

iOS are little smoother but androids now aren't bad. Expensive androids are now just as smooth. and i prefer android as whole bcs of customization and i can do whatever with it. i have ipad and i cant think of using an iphone bcs of how boring it is. and again, my phone is smoother than my ipad
2018-11-09 19:41
A little is an understatement. iOS 12 makes phones that were heavily underpowered when new perform as new...4-5 years later. What customization have you done with your phone? just curious. With my S8 I've added an icon pack and changed the style and colour of the clock on lock screen...that's it. I don't see any customization options that are actually useful but I'm asking for ideas.

2018-11-09 20:31
I don't care that much about my phone looking good. I care about how efficiently I can do my tasks in the phone. The way I see it the nova launcher is just a theme app and nothing more. A burger fills my belly, a game gives me content for hours and hours but this just makes something look better. It's not the same.

2018-11-09 20:36
I don't want to spend money to make my phone look good. I only care about how it actually performs and does things that I need it to do, I think it's a very logical and reasonable reason to not want to pay for an app :) Anything else I can do with my S8? I don't prefer iOS for any other reason except that it's lightweight and has better memory management as I stated before. There's just too many compromises for me to switch to an iPhone though. They're a few hundred more than Samsung's flaghips. No headphone jack. Lightning instead of usb-c etc. Price is the biggest reason though obvs.

Nova can actually make your phone more functional because it has options that allow you more access through shortcuts. It's hard to explain but Nova has a feature that allows you make a shortcut for just about every feature your phone has. Third party launchers are actually more than just making your phone look better. They massively improve functionality. There is a learning curve but once you figure it out it's hard to use anything else.
2018-11-09 20:47
Interesting, can I have an example of what I could make a shortcut of?
2018-11-09 20:48
#113
 |
Switzerland sovereiign
Say there is a feature within the settings you use a lot that you can only access by going into the settings which requires several steps to complete. With Nova you can create a homescreen shortcut (icon) for that particular setting and control it with a simple click. Or you can make shortcuts for sections in settings to instantly go to that area. You can make shortcuts for toggles, contacts, and features within apps. Basically anything the phone does a shortcut can be made for it to access/control it instantly. Also, you don't even need to use Nova to do this but just need Nova installed and you can access those features through other launchers. Not all launchers allow for this but certain ones do.

iOS is just too locked down for my taste. I love Android because you can make it your own. I can even make my android look identical to iOS if I wanted. I'm a geek who likes to tweak and hack my devices and Android is much more fun when it comes too that. I also prefer the look of Android and love all the choices in devices.

I have a OnePlus 6 and I absolutely love it. I used to not like it cause of things like double tap to wave being incredibly inconsistent and the screen-off gestures were just as inconsistent, but I think software updates have fixed the issue mostly. Now the only issue I have with it is that it's not really the best at anything besides value, the speakers are among the worst on a flashship(pretty sure same speakers are in the 6T), and, after a recent update, the gesture navigation system is really messed up(but obviously you can just use buttons) Great phone overall though. Would recommend.

Actually the speaker isn't bad on the 6T. I don't know if they made improvements or not but I'm pleased with it. Also, there is a mod I'm going to try which supposedly makes it way better. Perhaps it works on the 6 as well. forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-.. I've already unlocked the bootloader and rooted and currently just waiting for a full version of TWRP so I'm ready to tweak this thing out once the development work gets moving.

I have the Google camera mod installed but haven't tested it yet. I haven't taken any pictures at all. I heard it greatly improves the pictures.

true, even oneplus 5 has that because its native android thing. As everything 1+ works faster with every security than iphone. Fingerprint is probably the fastest in phone's world. Face recognition works faster than dumb apple and i have to say it freezed like three times in one year. Apple freezes all the time.

I have the OP6, it's $50 cheaper than T. I don't mind a little lower battery capacity and not having an under screen finger print sensor. As for the haptic feed back, you can turn off the vibration when you type on the keyboard if that's what you mean

I know the haptic feedback can be disabled I was just saying that's really the only issue it has which means it's an amazing device :D

I am the owner of the OP6T. One REALLY important thing (to me anyway) android users are forgetting: The LED notification light! As a former Samsung and OnePlus phone owner, I am really missing my notification light. However, the OnePlus team is working on an Always On Display (AOD) solution, much like the newer Samsung phones have. I really hope they implement this to the 6T, now that it has no notification light. I know there are apps to it on the screen itself, but it's just not the same, and it's a really bad idea with the OLED display unless it's moving a few pixels every now and then. And most of the apps are buggy as hell too.

I like the LED notification but it's not a big deal for me to not have it. I had mine disabled for months on my Pixel2XL and didn't even notice until one day I saw my mothers blinking and then thought to myself "I haven't seen my LED flash in months" so I went to settings and it was turned off for some reason. The first 2 smartphones I owned didn't have LED's so maybe that's why they aren't a big deal to me. My main complaint is I wish the ambient display had an option for 'always on' like so many other devices have like my Pixel2XL. I have got used to this feature and really like it. I hope that they add that option in an update or someone on xda makes a mod for it.

Buy a replacement and change it yourself. There are YouTube videos showing you how. It's not as hard as you might think. It can be intimidating but just tell yourself you can do it and you will. Just need to be patient and careful.
