Don't know how it is in germany but at least here you should deny doing anything and they can't do anything

No. They don't mean your mac address. They simply caught your ip when were torrenting. They can't do anything unless you admit since they have no proof it was YOU. I have heard Germany has pretty shitty laws when it comes to this so I'm not sure how it's there but generally this is how it should work. My recommendation is simply to deny knowing what they're even talking about Edit: btw try asking communities that are about torrenting. Hltv people are not going to be very helpful

thank you for being helpful. appreciate it

Did you get an email or a real letter from some German government departement? They don't care if you rape or beat normal people but if you steal some company's money shit can get serious.
2018-11-20 14:13
Don't ever use torrents again in Germany I don't know if you'll have to pay or what, but I'm actually in Germany as well for my studies, and when I left France, people told me to be extremly careful with torrents in Germany, because they spot you 100% and you have to pay a fine Downloading and watching streaming is tolerated, but uploading is illegal and in Germany and it's severly punished here
2018-11-20 14:16
I didn't upload anything though.

You automatically upload when torrenting. Try getting a good vpn and joining private trackers so you are pretty much safe from this in the future
2018-11-20 14:27
Yeah, torrent = uploading btw
2018-11-20 14:38
torrent is sharing, you download and spread the files at the same time

I've been using torrent since 14 years, of course only on private sites, and never had a problem.

Don't pay unless you have enough evidence that the mail is trustworthy. Could just be a scammer as well (hey you did this and this now pls send me 10000€ to my btc Adress)

Yes, pay it Also you need to pay the Nigerian prince
2018-11-20 16:26
yes it is serious if it is an "official" letter. since last year, using illegal streaming sites (kinox.to etc) is illegal and copyright owner can take legal steps. using p2p torrent networks is btw. illegal^2 only fags use streaming sites nowadays, since trustworthy privacy progs without connection limits cost the same as a netflix(etc) abo
2018-11-20 16:32
i would say thats some scam
2018-11-20 16:36
i don't understand how they send you a letter asking you your real adress ( #5 ) like WTF
2018-11-20 16:38
98% of the time not responding is the correct thing to do. That being said you can actually get fucked torrenting in germany if ur rly unlucky. VPN or direct download is the only thing thats 100% safe here
2018-11-20 16:48
but why exactly? are the rules different in germany or something? i want to know
2018-11-20 17:14
yea they are. youre allowed to download shit but as soon as you upload property you can be charged. So torrenting is illegal here while they can't do shit if you just download stuff.

Just dont respond. Aslong as its not a Yellow Letter (District Court) As long as you dont get one of those you should be fine. They rarely go full distance when you dont have a lot of stuff shared. Friend of mine got basicly fucked by Sony BMG few years ago.
