AMD 570 or 1060 6gb?
rain |
Norway eirik2nd
Im buying a graphics card for my pc. Ive got a asus 24.5" 240hz monitor and i am deciding between AMD 570 4gb and GTX 1060 6gb. Both cards cost 130€ 1060 6gb would be the better option, but the 240hz monitor has AMD Freesync so im wondering if i should pick an AMD GPU instead to be able to use the freesync. It doesnt seem to be that much of a difference between them either.

freesync is useless unless you are playing games at a lower frame rate. It really doesn't make that much of a difference to be honest and alot of fanboys once tried to convince me that freesync was better than 144hz (which is fucking delusional at best).

But you get rid of screen tearing though
2018-11-24 16:12
bruh. you are going to get rid of screen tearing through having a better card at the 1060 6gb. If you can get a RX 580 8GB then I would say get that over the 1060.

Freesync - RX ofc, 1060 will give you more fps tho, but nothing serious, 570 is good enough for 1080p gaming

2018-11-24 17:10
Depends what you favor more. I have a freesync monitor, but NVIDIA card. I don't care for sync technologies and would choose 1060 6GB over 570 any day, but if the freesync is really important for you, there isn't much of an option then.

I have never used any sync technologies myself therefore im not sure what i want to buy. I think it might be smarter to have lower fps but no screen tearing than to have screen tearing but higher fps.
2018-11-24 16:22
Well, syncing causes input lag. It is possible to minimise this with couple of tricks, but there is more input lag in any case. And the higher your fps and refreshrate will be, tearing isn't a problem without syncing.

By the time you profit from >4GB VRAM, the GPU of the 1060 will be too weak anyway. So you might as well take the AMD.

2018-11-24 16:27
The difference between the two cards is like 19/20. GTX 1060 has a slight performance advantage. You won’t go wrong with either one. Go with AMD to take full advantage of FreeSync.

Well i prefer nvidia cards, and if the 580 is not on your budget i'd say get the 1060 6gb, but if you can stretch a little get the RX 580 then, best of both worlds and you'll also be able to use FreeSync, try to get one with good thermal solutions and overclock it to +130 on core clock/+400 on memory and thats about it

I need the framerate for my 240hz monitor. The ryzen cpu isnt good enough for me...
2018-11-24 17:50
lel are u trolling or what ? 1) ryzen cpu isnt good enough . Srsly ? 2) i5 9600k for some crazy overclocking. Lel man past 4-5 years intel only rebranding their old cpus and already this is overclocked cpu. 3) 240hz monitor. For what do u need that monitor ? + u wont get stable 240fps with max settings in all games even if u have best cpu and gpu. 4) Some games have partnership with Intel and some games with AMD. So some games will run better on Intel and some on AMD. 5) Also most of benchmarks doesnt show the right numbers cuz they get sponsored either from AMD or Intel (mostly nvidia do this kind of sh7t). 6) if u had/have ryzen then its crucial if ur RAM is tested by your chosen motherboard.

You can easily excess 4gb VRAM with 4k. Especially if you dont only have the game itself running. You are basically about to fuck up your whole system anyways, so good luck.

1060 6gb = rx 580 Rx 570 is weaker. You couls havr figured this out using google..
2018-11-24 17:08
AMD RX 570 is more convincing choice since you've a freesync monitor. Rx 570 is 10-15% slower than GTX 1060 and Rx 570 consumes 60 W more power than GTX 1060. But if you don't mind these 2 disadvantages, you'll have freesync, which is useful since it syncs monitor's refresh rate and frame rate, giving smooth experience without stuttering and tearing even when you get low frame rate in other games.

I've got a gsync monitor and I wouldn't switch my nvidia card for an amd card, even if I got 20 fps more with it in every game. I'd apply the same vice versa... adaptive sync is great, especially for middle-class gpu which won't reach 144/240fps in most games

I know the 1060 is better... did you even read my thread? I was essentially asking if it were worth it buying a worse gpu for being able to use freesync. There isnt really that big of a difference between them either. Only around 10-20%
2018-11-25 10:28
??? Freesync should always be off, specially for CS:GO, otherwise it will give you input lag, something like this is obvious. And as I said, the 570 would COMPLETELY bottleneck your CPU, even the 1060 doesnt do the job fully, but it's still a 50% better match at least than the 570. An ideal GPU for the i5 9600k would be a 1080, otherwise you'll never get the full potential of your CPU

Why would i need a 1080 for csgo when im playing on 4:3 with lowest graphics? I was only considering amd for the freesync if i want to play things like gta. On a cpu dependant game like cs it wont matter much what GPU i have cuz the cpu will be doing mostly everything. Im currently using ryzen 1800x and 1080 ti and im getting around 200 fps. Anyway.. I bought the 1060 just to let you know
2018-11-25 10:43
You can activate Vsync in the GPU and it will work just like FreeSync with your monitor, it doesnt make a difference. If you're asking why I'm saying all this is because you don't know what bottleneck is. The 570 has 100% bottleneck rate with the 8600k, with the 9600k it's be even worse. A 9600k with a 570 will have almost the same perfomance as the 570 with a trashy CPU like the i5 7400. Good thing you didn't buy it, otherwise you would be in here in a week asking HLTV "why do I only get 150 fps in nuke with a 9600k???!?!?"

I know what bottlenecking is, but i dont really see a reason why the 570 would bottleneck as much as you are claiming. It performs pretty good on benchmarks
2018-11-25 10:53
You're definitely overestimating the 570, it's a GPU to work with a r5 1400 or a i5 7400. Pairing it up with a 9600k is madness. Always check a bottleneck calculator before making a purchase.

GTX 1060 for sure, RX 580 model is better than GTX 1060, 570 is weaker than 1060 and also 4GB VRAM against 6GB VRAM.. I would go for 1060 Edit: Sorry, I didn't read all. If you don't play any games on ultra, only CS or something, you can go for RX 570 for FreeSync feature. RX 570 is really good choice for 1080P. So in this case, you can choose 570 with FreeSync

gtx 1060 6gb for 130e is a great deal. Rx 570 is worse and higher power consumption. Freezync the only uspide, but you have to get fps below monitor refresh rate for it to work properly.
