They didn't make an effort until CS:GO had a huge surge of players, when the game became somewhat playable after the failed catastrophe that was CS:GO at launch +a year, and all of the skins and gambling made it's breakthrough. They only made an effort to make bank and keep those players opening and trading those skins so they get a nice cut.
They also completely turned a blind eye to the scummy, unregulated skin gambling market for years until they got hit with a huge lawsuit.
Fuck Valve. A once renowned company that made great games has turned into a company that only cares about revenue through their existing games and the Steam market through third party developers and community content. The only game they've made in forever is some shitty card game, and it's only because they felt that it was one of the few markets that they were missing out on. Fuck them.
The only reason they make CS:GO F2P is because of the fact that their major revenue comes from microtransactions, not the game itself. Making it F2P at this point in time will only increase their income, as the revenue through buying the game is on an all-time low, due to the game's age and competing games.
I also couldn't care less about their excuse that "Source is a coders nightmare, it's so hard to fix bugs and improve it". Port your games to Source2 then or work on a new Source2 game from scratch.
