Rap is only good for the words cause it's easy just to lay rhymes on the flow, no chords, no progression. Any fool can do that. Good lyrics in rap is like 3/10 lyrics in a rock/folk/ballad song.
2018-12-18 08:04
I disagree, when rap isnt cryptic it's corny unless it's meant to be some ratchet shit or the focus is on the beat rather than the rapper, which is referred to as "mumble rap", because you can't understand the lyric or you wish you didn't because they make no sense. On the other hand, rock/folk/etc. leaves more room for the listener to explore the meaning and find a definition to the lyric that might be completely different from what the artist meant, which is a skill in itself but when rap is at it's peak lyricism not only do you get the same vibe but you notice that wordplay & references are present, punchlines and more.
2018-12-18 10:46
I mean, it's easy doesn't mean it is bad. Rap lyrics are fine but still no match to masters of the industry.
2018-12-18 10:47
It's very hard, I suggest you open up to rap music. I'll be happy to recommend you a few rap albums
2018-12-18 10:55
Believe me or not but I write songs since 2013, I wrote them with the melody but sometimes I just rhymed for the matter. It's really not hard, you're not caged in the chords progression and you can put million of words... Actual music with chords is a lot harder to write lyrics for.
2018-12-18 10:59
You have different things to worry about, like flow & delivery, subject matter, punchlines, rhymes, wordplay, references and more. These days I listen to guitar/electronic music much more than rap, because it has become stale and the trend that is trap rap is simply not for me. I've listened to AMSP today (fantastic record) I love the lyrics, but I respect rap artists much more when it comes to writing. MF Doom, Danny Brown, Elzhi, Aesop Rock, Mick jenkins all of them are fantastic lyricists with their strengths and weaknesses, and they've been inspired by rock icons, and now they insipire current rock musicians.
2018-12-18 11:10
Believe me it's still much easier, I've done that, I still can do but I make music that has a good influence and professional beauty. Folk songwriter won a Nobel prize in literature, first time ever for his lyrics in music. All top 100 of the best songwriters contain folk and rock. Rap lyrics are good sometimes but rock requires knowledge and talent.
2018-12-18 11:13
So does rap, I listen to sufjan stevens and I also listen to jeff mangum, lou reed, bob dylan & many more. Rap takes much more skill.
2018-12-18 11:15
It's amusing, anyone can write rhymes and read them fast. Lyrics require ability to sing, compose, music theory, ability to play, chord progression awareness. Literally any teenager can write rhymes. Sorry it's no comparison here.
2018-12-18 11:18
You're talking at artisty lvl of radiohead/nine inch nails/sufjan stevens and you compare them to meek mill/migos/cardi b. Please go and listen to ATCQ debut album, Illmatic, 36 Chambers.
2018-12-18 11:23
I don't mean neither of those, quality of music fell down since decades. You needto compare rap to 60s and 70s music, these bed shitters stillin diapers.
2018-12-18 11:23
Okay but the artists that I mentioned are even better, so it's a no-brainer that rap wins. And I'm ending this here, going to listen to AFP by cash
2018-12-18 11:27
No, they're not better in the slightest. Music history shows who are better on the timeline. List of 2011 best songs of all time, contained only about 10 rap songs, if not less, I recall 2. Out of 500. Nobody takes rap seriously and rhymes anyone can write. You never composed, I did.
2018-12-18 11:27
Only retards like both of u argue which genre is better Pure autism
2018-12-18 11:48
It's not about genre. It's about the process of songwriting and therefore the result. Don't get involved when you have no clue of the subject. And if you ask me, rap is not music at all.
2018-12-18 11:51
Yes it is about genres Uwowo rap leirecs are easier tovwriterep is only fast readink yes Pls. Music is subjectivwe and ur speaking false facts
2018-12-18 11:54
Not it's not, read the posts you reply to. Music can be both subjective and objective.
2018-12-18 11:57
Now you can go. I said all it takes to understand.
2018-12-18 11:28
No space ^ Its literally how rap is "easier to write" than other genres. Also how its just reading lyrics and that it doesnt require a lot of talent and knowledge Yes. Music can be objective. Like how mumble rap doesnt require lots of talent But u cant just talk bout a whole genre like that. Rap lyrics isnt only about rhymes neither. Its really complex and there are a lot of metaphors and wordplay etc Its not reading lyrics fast as theres a huge skill gap. Youre the type of guy to listen to the worst examples of rappers then talk shit and call it easy when u probably cant even stay on beat
