I'm a different kind of tourist. I learned French to stay there for an amount of time I felt myself able to absorb and understand more about their culture and their life. Also why not to study something different? As my work stabilized itself I want more things to keep my brain alive and working.
2019-01-01 17:49
Always good to know other languages. Last night i "pulled" a german girl simply because i can speak and understand german! She spoke perfectly fine english but she thought it was funny that i could speak the language and i guess she kinda missed germany. Knowing other languages can never be a bad thing

It's a waste of time to learn another language especially in Europe where there are so many different languages and most people speak English anyway.
2019-01-01 18:46
If i didnt speak german i guarantee you i wouldnt have had ex last night... So its worth 100%

Unexpected for someone to crap over your own language, especially regarding a Swede which society is above the average.

Not unexpected at all, I'm far from the only one who shares this opinion. I'd admit though, 'disgusting' might be too harsh, but the Swedish language is far from a pleasant language to speak and/or listen to (obviously my opinion). I don't really see the point of learning Swedish if you're just going to be here for a few months (besides some easy and common phrases) because Swedish is quite a minority. You'll do just fine with English. Anyway, if you actually do want to learn Swedish I'm afraid you have to ask someone else as I don't know any material to learn from.

well in terms of the time wasted, i dont recommend learning swedish tbh. you would be better of using the time to learn german/russian/mandarin. Swedish is a dead language i dislike it.

That's a good perspective to someone aiming to make money out of their skillset. The thing is: I'm Brazilian, not European. If I ever try to learn a language to emmigrate and work using these languages I'll be a toilet cleaner at max. I'm not cleaning someone's else's toilet because my country worth less than dog shit, I'm better than that. I'm a skillful professional in my area here in Brazil and my goal to learn another language would be to know and understand more about your culture. As a tourist.

I see no reason to learn it tbh Why? There's a lot of broken swedish going on because influx of immigrants and while it might be a fun experience for you, it might not trigger the reception that you perhaps wanted because of prejudice
