Processor upgrade recommendation
Asia YAWEH
I have i7 4790 with 2*4 GB ram 1600MHZ , corsair rx650w power supply, xl2411z monitor. My GTX 760 just die i was thinking should i just get a new gpu or a new processor and mobo like an I7 8700 but if i upgrade a my Processor and mobo i would have to wait a couple of months to get a new GPU. also suggest which gpu would give me good fps @ 1440 * 1080p low settings. pls help.

i7 8700 and rtx 2060/2070

I think AMD just announced some new graphic cards at CES that should hit the market soon, so might be an idea to wait a bit with that to see what it does to pricing.

If you mean radeon vega VII or whatever they called that catastrophe of a GPU, it's just a die-shrink of older vegas. I mean, they are salvaging unusable chips from their pro-segment GPUs (radeon instinct). Vega is trash and fail of a GPU for gaming and if you look at the parameters and pricing of Vega VII it's epicfail this time.
2019-01-18 10:14
Vega 56/64 is totally fine for the price it is at right now. Yes last year there was no market for it at it's price, but since the mining boom ended the price went down significantly. Vega VII on the other hand is a wasted product, but for some enthusiast there might be a place for it, especially with those 16GB of RAM...

I wouldn't call Vegas totally fine. Half-assed and very power hungry architecture. By the time it came out, it was already outdated and till this day doesn't offer everything that was promised. Price was a joke even when I disregard mining craze and it's effect on gpu prices. You need to fiddle with it and undervolt to make it run efficiently, etc. All in all Vega is a fail for a gpu aimed at gamers. Vega VII is completely wasted on just about anyone. Dieshring of already useless architecture wont save anything (from a gaming GPU perspective). You say there might be some enthusiast market for it, but it's completely niche. Release of Vega VII makes 0 sense and 16 GB of vram is pretty much useless, especially considering how expensive HBM2s are.

meanwhile y'all think gtx 1060 with I7 4790 would be enough for 144hz 250+ FPS

I use an i7 3770 with gtx 670 and rarely go below 200 FPS in comp. sometimes I’m dm tho. You should be fine
2019-01-18 09:09
I have a i5 7400 and a 1050 ti on the new maps 200+ fps on the older between 270-300, so I think it would
2019-01-18 10:14
1060 6gb and Ryzen 5 1500x here, i get around 250 fps.
2019-01-18 10:49
i had 17 4790 and gtx 1070 and i was around 180-220fps most of time(my processor had no cooling/getting pretty old tho).
2019-01-18 17:33
what settings were you on?
2019-01-18 17:33
low/medium settings and 1280x960 stretched.
2019-01-18 17:34
dam those fps are pretty low.
2019-01-18 17:34
yeah but like i said, when i played other games like pubg my cpu overheated 2 or 3 times so i think it might have been damaged tbh. bought a new pc a few weeks ago, the fps i had was before that.
2019-01-18 17:36
my cpu is fine (finger's crossed) still a bit confused with gtx 1060 or rx 590
2019-01-18 17:38
after doing some resarch i think with 1060 and 4790 you should get 250fps+ on low/medium, rx590 is definitely a bit better though and only a bit more expensive.

i7 6700k + 1060 6gb mostly low settings and 1080p fps is 220-300+
2019-01-18 17:46
csgo is cpu dependant game, i7 4790 is already good enough why would you upgrade your cpu if your gpu died?

4790 is more than enough for easy to run game such as csgo, just get yourself RX 580(better than gtx1060), or rx 570 for 150$ new

how much fps with 1060 or 580? would you expect.
2019-01-18 09:52
With that cpu 250+ for sure
2019-01-18 09:59
do you think 1070 will be better for cs go with that cpu?
2019-01-18 10:08
Csgo only cares about cpu mostly, gtx 1070 won't make a difference, but for other games and higher framerates, for sure yes
2019-01-18 10:17
Don't waste your money on GTX 1070 completely unnecessary for CSGO and there are better GPU's for that price...
2019-01-18 10:26
New gpu, processor is fine.

upgrade gpu first, because anyways u need to w8 for new ryzens, then upgrade cpu
2019-01-18 10:13
Keep that i7 4790 it's still great for CS Just get a new graphics card... RX570/RX580/GTX 1060 6GB Dont go for GTX 1050ti RX 570 is way better for the price. If you go for GTX 1060 under no circumstance go for a 3GB version.
2019-01-18 10:20
do you think 1070 is a good option for the mentioned cpu?

2019-01-18 10:34
Don't go for the 1070 it is completly overkill for CS. The RX580/GTX 1060 6GB is totally fine and you can play any game on 1080p with it. Also the GTX 1070 (400€) is an aged card and still overpriced. GTX 1060 6GB/RX580 (200-230€) probably best price/performance in your case...
2019-01-18 10:33
Thanks buddy! considering your advice i am totally gonna buy gtx 1060.
2019-01-18 10:35
Just make sure it's an 6GB Version. The 3GB version even though it is named 1060 is a completly different graphics chip...
2019-01-18 10:39
noted. 6gb it is.
2019-01-18 10:42
do you suggest any specific 6gb 1060. (as in asus, gigabyte etc).
2019-01-18 13:24
The biggest difference is the cooler design but since the 1060 doesnt get really hot by default it doesnt matter that much. Just go for one with a decent price gigabyte asus evga msi zotac are all solid brands with good cooling solutions...
2019-01-18 13:41
obviously get a gpu you retard

buy rx580.
2019-01-18 10:38
gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX.. almost on par. would prefer 1060 6gb
2019-01-18 10:43
Actually rx 580 is much better now, amd latest drivers are fantastic, especially because it's cheaper and have more ram youtu.be/uIoyn-_m89Q
2019-01-18 10:55
Saying it's "much better" is overstatement to say the least. Along with BS that AMD gpus age better. Yes 580 is not a bad gpu if you can get it for a reasonable price. 1060 6 GB is pretty much comparable and on par with 580 tho, yet is less power-hungry and thus runs more efficiently and produces less hear.
2019-01-18 11:52
>less power-hungry its like 5-6$ for year of difference I bought 580 cus of freesync and 8Gb(less big fps drops) better Vulcan and new Dx support also better linux support. After last driver updates 580 is a little bit better then 1060.
2019-01-18 12:45
Resolutions these cards are aimed at the 2 GB difference is a non-issue. I have far more problem with 2060 only having 6GB. 1060 is fine in that regard. Nvidia can release new drivers at any time that will put 1060 ahead of 580 again. Those cards are still pretty evenly matched. Saying "Nvidia cards sucks on new Dx and Vulcan." without elaborating on it only underlines your lack of knowledge on the matter at hand. RX 580 is by no means a bad GPU, but the way you try to promote your choice of GPU is nonsensical.
2019-01-18 13:29
I use Linux and Vulcan all the time(Dota), Have both nvidia and radeon. Radeon is much better on Vulcan so I don't know what are you talking about in context of "lack of knowledge" . ". Nvidia can release new drivers at any time" it's not always matter of soft. Radeon had bad drivers(compared to it's potential) nvidia already have good for 1060 so they wont improve 1060 by soft anymore maybe some dedicated fixes. Worse performance in newest DX and vulcan is hardware issue not software, 10xx series GPUs are optimized for Dx11.
2019-01-18 13:57
Check newest benchmarks after drivers update. Also check games on newest Dx and vulcan cus many games still use old Dx cus Nvidia cards sucks on new Dx and Vulcan. New games will need more GDDR so 580 will be enough for a little bit longer than 1060.
2019-01-18 12:49
I will be playing only CS GO. So what do you recommend?
2019-01-18 13:02
Either of them is a good choice. 580 has more VRAM. 1060 needs less power so it doesn't overheat so much and also is quieter in general. I'd say pick whatever you can get cheaper.
2019-01-18 13:30
any specific 1060 you recommend?

Even though CSGO is CPU intensive, your graphics card is very outdated. So these people are telling you the right stuff. If you could fork out some more cash for an i7 8700 or above and pair it with GTX 1060/1070, you should be set for a couple of years of CSGO.

Your CPU is more than enough, just get a new gpu and more ram if possible
2019-01-18 12:50
You don't need a new CPU. Buy a new GPU. What's your budget for GPU?
2019-01-18 13:42
550$ max
2019-01-18 16:41
RTX 2070 is in your budget. Prices might drop a little next months for the RTX 2080 because of the Vega 7 from AMD, but don't expect too much. RTX might be below $650. RTX 2070 starts at $500. If you just play CS:GO you can get a GTX 1060 6gb/RX580/590.
2019-01-18 16:43
YEAH JUST CS GO - 90% going with the GTX 1060. a bit worried cos most of them are goin out of stock
2019-01-18 17:24
RX590 is better for +- same money and RX580 pretty much the same like 1060 6gb, so nothing to worry about.
