How sending people to mars is caring about the humanity?
2019-01-19 23:07
I can’t believe you’re asking this question. Sending people to mars and beyond is incredible progress for humanity. Because those small steps eventually turn into the eventual creation of bases and colonization of those worlds.
2019-01-19 23:09
And how bases on Mars will help humanity?
2019-01-19 23:10
There will actually be people who will survive the nuclear apocalipse this way

2019-01-19 23:14
they are people too, extinction or important people alive?
2019-01-20 18:46
What the problem of a nuclear apocalypse? Radiation and cold temperature due to nuclear winter : - Mars has no magnetosphere, meaning radiation on it are already deadly for humans. - Mars has lower temperature than a nuclear winter on earth can produce. So, at the very best, living on Mars is as bad as living on earth after a nuclear apocalypse. Add the absence of life form needed to sustain cultures (insects, bacteria, nutriments produced by billions of years of lifeform on earth, etc) Add the impossibility to breath. Add the lower access to energetic ressources (oil, sun, coal, etc) No mention to the total lack of logistic. End result, to avoid the effect of a nuclear apocalypse, you think sending people in a place way worse than a nuclear apocalypse is a good idea? At this point, better to create shelters on earth to save humanity from a nuclear apocalypse. So again, how sending people to mars will help humanity?
2019-01-19 23:18
Actually it does protect from the radiation from solar wind. solar wind induces currents in the ionized upper atmosphere (the ionosphere), creating an induced magnetosphere. it was said that this wasn’t enough to protect it but they were wrong.
2019-01-19 23:23
solar wind is not solar radiation bro. One is made of ionized particules as you said, the other one is made of electromagnetic radiation.
2019-01-19 23:29
Radiation levels on mars aren’t that bad. Mars has a thin atmosphere, but it protects from some of it. Astronauts would be able to live there.
2019-01-19 23:35
Til their in habitat is protected enough, yes. As we could do on earth after a nuclear apocalypse with much more ease.

2019-01-19 23:41
I am not gonna be the opposing keyboard warrior here, there is plenty of material around for you to educate yourself
2019-01-19 23:38
Having humans live throughout the solar system means that humanity will be able to live on if the earth is ruined.
2019-01-19 23:12
Not only that, all the new technologies developed for space travel/colonization can be used on Earth to greatly benefit us.
2019-01-19 23:17
Yeah, want to know what came out from the nasa moon project? The microchip, CAT scan, and many others.
2019-01-19 23:19
Yup, and many more inventions.
2019-01-19 23:19
If you go that way, there is no need to send people on mars to create those tech. After all, we already benefited from many technologies developed for space travel without sending someone on mars.
2019-01-19 23:20
But you would never invent those things because there was so no need for it, since we're not going into space. It's not only about technological advancements, and saving the human race. It's simply also about exploration, and humans love to explore.
2019-01-19 23:21
That's what I said above : we are going into space since decades without specifically sending a manned mission on mars. Sending people on mars to explore, okay. I have no problem with that. I am even pro manned mars exploration. But that is not my question which is, why sending people on mars will help humanity?
2019-01-19 23:33
Technological advancements, that can only happen by going into space and to keep advancing to need to have a better understanding of space. Not only that but we NEED to go into space so we can mine asteroids for resources.
2019-01-19 23:37
That's what I said above : how sending human to mars will help? Perhaps I am silly but to me, if you want to develop techs to mine asteroids for instance, the best way to achieve it is to develop techs to mine asteroids, not sending human on Mars.
2019-01-19 23:40
But how will we mine asteroids if we don't have experience in space? Mars is a perfect opportunity to study another planet, and get first hand experience in space. The ISS can only do so much for humanity. Going to Mars is the perfect political framing to advance space tech.
2019-01-19 23:41
Again, why you speak again and again about space in general? I'm far from being against that. What I'm against is saying sending people on mars will help humanity. It won't. You said it, that's just a political frame. All the time and money spend on a manned mission to mars is time and money not spend on developing asteroid minage tech, developing long time extra earth orbit space ship or whatever techs truly useful or humanity. Manned mission to mars will slow the humanity not the opposite way around.
2019-01-19 23:47
It's about experience. And eventually terraforming Mars to another Earth. But currently it's a political framing to get funding from governments.
2019-01-19 23:50
Don't start with terraformation, you can't do start if you are not able to protect atmosphere from cosmic particules and probably from cosmic radiation too. And right now the only way to do that is to have a strong enough magnetosphere, which need a planet core moving (aka hot enough). Good luck for warming a planet core. At this point there is much more easier way to sustain humanity out of earth.
2019-01-20 00:01
No it doesn't. Because any Mars colonization will rely on supply from Earth to sustain themselves. So if Earth is ruined their model won't work anymore. Plus Mars is far from ideal to develop tech in order to spread on other celestial corpses : Moon or a space station suit this purpose way better. Plus added that the very base of our whole energetic sources (but the nuclear one) comes from the sun (oil was once plants that grew up with the sun power, etc), Mars more away of the sun than earth is a very bad candidate to be a "lifeboat". If Earth is ruined, humanity won't survive long in a relative near future: we are way too far away of the technologies needed to be able to sustain humanity outside of Earth. Said otherwise, sending people to Mars today is meaningless for the purpose of saving humanity.
2019-01-19 23:35
elon musk is a human, and if mars tourism becomes an actual thing he'll become even richer than he already is, thus helping humanity
2019-01-19 23:46
I'm well aware of that, and I have nothing against it but that's not helping humanity.

he makes electrict cars because society needs to get rid of current cars and noone has put in the effort so far.

it was inevitable fuel-based cars will be replaced. he just anticipates the future of business really well.

2019-01-20 12:46
care to clarify?
2019-01-20 17:16
it was inevitable windows will replace all other operating systems in most computers. gates just anticipates the future of business really well.
2019-01-20 17:18
But there wasn't a virus destroying other operating systems so Windows would be needed. On the other hand there is global warming partly caused by car dioxide carbon emissions. Nice try though, you tried. Now go back to insulting people as it's probably the best thing your fried brain can do.
2019-01-20 17:59
What the fuck are you talking about you utter fucking retard? Gates and musk are both visionaries, they pull thru with an idea / product and they were/are miles ahead of the competition. "it was inevitable hurr durr" yeah you think electric cars would have crafted themselves? are you fucking dense? seriously just shut the fuck up you brainlet
2019-01-20 18:03
I didn't say Musk wasn't a visionary. Your comment: " they pull thru with an idea / product and they were/are miles ahead of the competition" My comment: "he just anticipates the future of business really well." Having an idea which meets the demand of people and increase life-quality makes you smart, investing into it makes you into a revolutionary human being. I sense you're quite autistic since you don't even know why you're arguing for. You should get your issues and frustrations checked out.
2019-01-20 18:11
you said "he JUST anticipates the "FUTURE" of business really welL" but that is just completely wrong in every aspect and its not how this thing works at all. he SHAPED the future of business by defining the competition which previously barely existed. he did so much in every aspect, and ofc hes not the first to realize the threat of cliamte change and that we need to shift our transportation and energy sources, but he was the first to DO SOMETHING about it. you brainlet
2019-01-20 18:23
Electric cars would have been made been massively produced even without Musk. It's only that he was first to do it. It's not like he invented electric cars and now major auto brands started making them as well. They were invented in 19th century but the oil monopoly suppressed everyone who was tending towards the idea. Now they can't control the situation like they did back in the days. Climate change got mainstream from the moment governments decided to take radical measures. It was inevitable business would go down this path, it was Musk who saw this first and decided to act and invest. So it's not like he "Shaped" the future of business, "you brainlet"
2019-01-20 18:33
What are you on about? saying it was inevitable is like saying it was inevtiable we will have good flatscreens in the 00's. what kind of nonsensical, empty statement is that? musk was one of many rich selfmade entrepeneurs / businessman. he was the only one willing to invest into this project tho, because of known hardships like battery issues etc. and he did it as it was the right thing to do and noone else was doing it. without musk, we might not have had e-cars of this level for another 10 years. but climate scientists agree we dont have another 10 years to wait with cutting emissions, so musk basically came just in time. but ultimately, it makes no difference. he is trying his best, but it makes no difference, a couple of teslas cannot offset the large fleet of carbon based transport. it has to be the govnerments ACTUALLY taking radical measures, which so far they have not done whatsoever. and yes, he shaped the future of business. you are arguing complete nonsense and actually giving it your all doing so. that is why calling you retarded is completely justified.
2019-01-20 18:43
Ok so this is my last comment since I'm not wasting any of my time as it's not a constructive conversation for me and I'm just wasting my time. Let me break down your line of thought: "What are you on about? saying it was inevitable is like saying it was inevtiable we will have good flatscreens in the 00's" Irrelevant comparison. Electric cars are NECESSARY, flatscreens are not. Rest of your comment until last paragraph just repeats my comment from before. Musk was the first to invest in electric cars, otherwise major auto brands would have produced them sooner or later even without him. "and yes, he shaped the future of business. you are arguing complete nonsense and actually giving it your all doing so. that is why calling you retarded is completely justified." Again calling me retarded just by dismissing everything and not giving a concrete example where I might be wrong. Let me give you another concrete example where I am right: he would shape the future of business if his Neuralink project would go mainstream and produce major revenue, changing life-quality for most people on this planet. That's what it means to change the game, to come with something no one expected, not with something that was already needed and you just supply the demand.
